1. MMmmmmm those G&Ls look tasty
2. GK new products I really want that little MB Fusion!
3. Two words..... COOL AS!!
4. No kids and no mortgage at the moment and business is bad, so yes, like a shot
5. The Jim Dunlop guitar polish is pretty good, it cleaned up an old strat copy I did for my step-son and that was one grimey guitar!
6. I usually keep a handful on top of my amp.
7. Go for it Beefy! Some notes from the local perspective - Classic rock goes down a storm in our neck of the woods, sound quality isn't that important, but visuals are - (needless to say, my band did pop/indie, had a great PA, didn't dress up and had no lights of our own ). Sweet FA are flavour of the moment with most pub landords at the moment as they do the whole glam rock dressing up thing and everyone knows at least 90% of the set, plus they've got a bit of a following so landlords know they'll get some extra punters who wouldn't normally set foot in their pub. Basically think "entertainer" rather than "musician" and you'll have a successful covers band in the West kent / East Sussex area.
8. bandmix is good - musofinder.com too
9. I know how you feel AM - been through four months of "politics", which ended up with the band going belly up twice in that time-frame. The last couple of weeks I've felt like selling my kit and just not bothering anymore. Fortunately, I refound my love of bass a couple of days ago - just playig along to stuff I haven't tried in a couple of years. Singer and I have had a chat and we're going to start an originals project - writing for the next two or three months while looking for a guitarist, then once we're sure we've found one who "gets" what we want to do we'll find the drummer and get ready to start gigging again. For the first time in ages I'm quite excited about this music malarky
10.
On the mid range bass prices......wouldn't players rather just check one out for themselves? The high end stuff is generally out of reach.
The problem is that so many people buy from the web these days that provicial music shops just don;t have a decent range of basses anymore. Between the three local shops I use, I can count on my fingers the number of mid-price basses they've got. My nearest shop with a decent selection of mid-priced basses (GAK) is a good hours drive and then expensive parking to boot. If I've got an informed shortlist of basses I want to try, so much the better.
11. Could just be dirty pots / dodgy solder joints -- why not get it checked by a tech before spending big bucks? If your heart is set on a new pre then another MEC one from Warwick? The ACG/East EQ02 is getting a lot of love around here too (I'm thinking of one for my 'vette)
12. To keep - 1. Cover Interviewees - there has been a good range of feature interviews with people from a wide range of styles and interviews. 2. Transcriptions/technique/theory - again, pretty good as is IMO. To improve / change - 1. A decent news section - for example, if someone in editorial had a glance through this (or other) forum, they'd be aware of what's going on at Barefaced Bass/ACG/DHA etc etc 2. More mid-range bass reviews. 3. Spread the "mini" interviews to cover more genres (they seem to be mostly metal/jazz) 4. Bring back the Weekend Warrior section
13. +1 the the DBX's Do not try the Alesis 3630! It's the noisiest comp I've ever tried.
14.
I'll get some monies together, I've got the tools
You'll need to factor in some time too.... I've had a collection of ply, drivers, tweeters, wire and hardware all ready to be turned into an Omni10 for almost 8 months now
15.
In terms of taste, those things are the logical next step from playing a Warwick.
You may have something there BBC - I'd love to find an SH101
16. Why not just remove the active electronics?
17. Nope, minimum load on these is 8ohm bridge or 4ohm stereo.
18. Perfect sense Zoe, thank you
19. I know an ex-guitarist of my band used to go to a couple over Maidstone way, but beyind that I have no other details.
20. Same boat for me recently...... Just the last few weeks I've found it really hard to motivate myself to pick up the bass and have stopped listening to music too (which is a first ) I've worked out that it's one (or more) of a few things - There has been two major upheavals in band lineup over the last four months, so there's a lot of work to do and unconciously I'm probably waiting for the next band member to s0d off when we have a number of gigs booked. I've gone from being the most proficient on my instrument to the least with all the lineup changes, so unconsciously I am disheartened by a steep learning curve or just plain don;t feel good enough. I am forty next month and big birthdays always make me feel I have to make changes in who I am (which never last and within a year or two I'm the same old me). GAS - it winds me up to the point where I just lose interest in whatever subject I'm gassing about (again gets better in a few months). Not sure that's of any interest to anyone, but I feel better for getting it off my chest.
21. IME most bass players who want a compressor actually want a limiter (which admittedly is just a specifically set compressor).
22. Not learned yet, but getting there - Metalingus - Alter Bridge
23. Mick played on at least some of the tracks on Dance.
24. There's a few of us on here that have done the CS3 mod. I managed it just fine and that was while consuming six cans of lager.
25. If it was a few weeks into the future and I wasn't 100s of miles away, I'd have this off you. I need a 5 string urgently and would like to stay with 'wick if poss.
