1.
Well I've currently got a markbass CMD102P 2X10" combo with a Traveler 151P extension cab. This gives me a really full range sound, with plenty of bottom end, but loud of clarity, punch and definition too. I don't like using the combo on its own usually, because its just lacking the balls that I'm used to from running the 15" too. I love my sound, and I really can't fault the mark bass stuff at all, but it would be useful to have a slightly more compact rig (not that it's massive anyway!). It sounds like a BB2 would be the better choice for me.
If you're used to using tweeters the BB2 would better choice for you.
2. And his other band - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wwl_LsENLo&feature=c4-overview-vl&list=PL7iq888HGxx2JFpQm9DS_58X57sgj6BBd
3. Damn, I thought this was another Barefaced thread.
4.
I paid my £100 May 29 and have paid in full since. No cab yet. To be fair I have altered my order a couple of times - original order was gen 2 Midget, which got changed to Super Midget because of gen 3 soon to be released. This I later changed to Super Compact and then BB2 as I became aware of the specs of the rest of the updated range. But I fear I've been bumped to the back of the queue each time :-( However, I did state from the outset that I was in no particular hurry. A mistake perhaps?
I'd say an alteration would be wanting to change from metal grille to silver cloth, or adding a tweeter to a Midget. Changing to a whole different model would be more like cancelling and re-ordering. So you'll probably get yours 2-4 months after you settled on the BB2, maybe a bit longer as there seems to be a lot of demand for these G3 BF cabs.
5.
hook with the drums instead.
This. The guitar should be locking in with the rhythm section not the other way around.
6. Those Microkorgs are great fun! Our singist got one for Xmas last year.
7. Thanks for the "heads up" Steve. Do you know what time you guys are on? The Spitfire has lovely beer, but is a drive away so being there all day could be dangerous
8. Been considering making the same move myself recently...... Why? Our new guitarist (who is our old drummer) would feel more comfortable with a second guitarist. Experience tells me that when you put two guitars in the same band music can rapidly devolve from an art form to a competitive sport. I know if I do it that won't happen. What will happen is I'll look at the guy playing bass and think "Why is he doing my bit?" So I'm staying where I am and our guitarist can man up.
9. NWR played here in Tunbridge Wells last month. The listings poster for The Forum that has both Norman and my band on is now proudly displayed on the office wall here
10. I'm a flat dweller myself. I use a headphone amp at home. There is most likely a clause in your tenancy about "quiet enjoyment". If so you are in the wrong. Even if not, you are being inconsiderate and if your neighbours are complaining to your letting agent there's nothing to stop them serving a section 20 notice to get you out at the end of your assured period.
11. Elites stainless steel 45-105. I've used them for 20+ years with occasional forays into other brands. Almost as good availability as Rotos but not so harsh on the fingers and don't go dead so soon.
12. We had a Precision that would have been late 60s or early 70s and it had a great birdseye neck
13. I was really lucky. When I started the music had a Japanese EB/SG copy that belonged to one of the Maths teachers. Towards the end of my 1st year the head of music was looking to put together a band for the school's musical productions (mostly written by him). He found out I was an aspiring bassist and asked me to audition. I passed. Over the Summer break he blew a large part of the departments budget on a used Fender Precision. Sunburst with a maple neck and some lovely birdseye figuring. I played that bass for the next 3 1/2 years. It was great. He also added an electric bass tutor to the roster of visiting instrument teachers. Then he sold it and bought a Westone Thunder 1a. Nice bass, but not what you want to be playing for the first time in your O-level practical
14. I had Peavey combos for both guitar and bass in the 80s. But I lusted after Trace Elliott and a Fender valve combo for the guitars.
15. You sold the JV?! Mad!
16. Dan bought a pedal from me. Very easy transaction, great communication. Completely hassle-free deal. N
17.
Don't buy without trying.
This.
18.
Oh, great! I'm a bf owner.... Soon to be g3, and I'm pairing it with an Ashdown! Can I please catch a break!!
An Ashdown head is the best thing I have put through my BF Compact.
19. Run Leia Run played the Grosvenor in Stockwell last night. Our first outing there and they head us headlining. In true headline act style-ee we managed to be an hour late for our soundcheck (work and South London Traffic got in the way as well as the guitarist doubling back when he realised he'd left the oven at home ). Never mind, the promoter was pleased to see us and explained that one of the support bands had jumped in to do theirs. He sorted out our beer vouchers and we set about using them Nice quick sound check. Said what we wanted in our monitors, played a song, I wanted less guitar in my monitor and wished I'd brought my own rig instead of using the house back-line. A quick verse and chorus. Job done. Back to using the beer vouchers while we did the meet and greet with friends who'd made the trek to come and see us. Missed the first band while we were doing this, but caught the second band, Manilow. A quick trip to the bar to exchange the last of the vouchers then it was set up time. Straight into the set and our guitarist breaks a string (no he hadn't brought another guitar). Cue scrambling around for a spare string, fit it, tune up and bash on. Realised the singer had been supplementing his beer vouchers with cash bought spirits leading to a more boisterous performance than usual. Finished the set, including a couple of barely rehearsed new ones which went ok. Called on to do a couple of encores, so a couple of slightly ragged covers were performed. The good news is that restringing the guitar and the singer's antics hadn't phased the promoter at all and he wants us to go back again soon
20. Two Basschatter's bands for the price of one!
21. As others have already said the Bad Monkey is a very good cheap Tube Screamer copy all types of which are popular with bassists.
