It's definitely a bonnie board - very slick

To be fair, that's a bit like saying 'if you've got a bass, do you even need another one?' 😀

Thanks - should have done my research 🙂 Yep - makes total sense and I appreciate the difference now in this context 👍 Thanks.

I've started a new approach to my pedalboard trying to abandon my impulse to buy everything all at once and throw it together and instread building up in a logical and tested way. The first place I'm focussing on is a clean and focused input signal. So I've landed with the Cali76 Compact Bass compressor, having tried a few including the new Atlas. I've also just pressed the button on a micro Thumpinator v2 HPF. However, it occured to my that the Cali76 has a HPF knob on the pedal and am I doubling up unnecessarity with the Thumpinator. I've read a couple of threads in the pedalboard builds that have both pedals but wanted to get any opinions as to whether I'm wasting money on the Thumpinator - although I guess I can always place it later in the chain to clean up backend lowend created through the chain. Any thoughts?

Love it. You need them as your backing dancers!

Love them - the Thundermaker looks uber cool and definitely something that I'd love to hang on the wall and have to hand to play. No idea how robust they'd be in a live situation but I'm guessing pretty well as they have a good solid sound to them.

Looks like some are replicated and some are generic (although probably still the Boss original as why would they reinvent the wheel?) https://static.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/GX-100_prm_eng01_W.pdf

Oh nice. Does that essentially replicate all the individual Boss stomp tones (like OC-5 and BF-3 etc)?

I recently got a Valeton GP-200 and I have to say it has blown me away. It's got everything you need in it for around £250 including effects, amps, tuner, drums and an expression pedal. It even has Midi and DI. I'm going to stick a Cali76 in front of it and maybe a separate pre-amp if I feel I need it. I've had a Zoom B6 (hated the plastic form) and an HX Stomp (too small and fiddly) and an HX Effects (to much space given up for not enough back). I think the Valeton just hits the spot with great sounds at a brilliant prices and its quality made in a sold metal casing. I'm usually a real brand snob - generally just for the sake of it - but in the case I've taken an alternative view.

Looks like this is due to drop in December. I'm really interested in this as was starting to focus in on the LeBass - I'm assuming this is it's replacement and by all accounts the spec looks like an upgrade. There's no reviews out there at the moment that I can see that give an indication of the sound.....very tempted to put down a deposit to give it a whirl.

How are you getting on with this? I've been looking at these as want to invest in a pre-amp. I've already recently acquired an excellent compressor. Do you think this pedal is worth the money for just pre-amp section as I probably would't use the compression?

*** GONE *** Moody Blues tribute in formation in NW London

Did you manage to find your bassist for tomorrow? -
Love Blinding Lights . . . . just given me an idea for our band 🙂
-
Nice idea. Almost felt like an April fools. No idea if the sounds are true to form - obviously the lo-fi laptop speaker won't help - but the concept is a good one. Being able to play with the various buttons, knobs and permutations brings the experience of a live demo much closer for those of us (like me) who are too lazy (or indeed busy) to going into these things called 'shops'!

I see @chris_b has already engaged his agent to negotiate the price 🤣

Steve sold me his Bugera Veyron amp - really quick and easy transaction. Amp was posted out immediately and received next day, well packaged and all in tact! Would happy purchase again from Steve in the future. Thanks 👍

The Alternators opened the first night at the Teddington Beer Festival last night -2 x 45min sets. The venue - the Landmark Arts Centre - was our biggest yet (400 people) and a stunning setting ...... albeit, being a Church, the acoustics weren't brilliant for a loud band 🙂. I was really nervous although managed to relax into it by mid-way through the first set. I need to learn to relax, move about and enjoy the moment!! Pretty happy with my playing - notwithstanding a few frustrating mistakes - and the band sound. Our drummer was out of action so we had a dep who was really excellent although missed my mate and our usual connection. There was decent engagement from the crowd although they were mostly there to chat and try different beers, so split between some good engagement at the front and foot/finger tapping at the back. Everything was PA'd with clean floor monitors so my BF ST wasn't strictly needed but the LBT did a great job of holding the tone. Great end to they year which had 8 gigs in total and we pretty much doubled our playlist (I think we are at around 50+ songs at the moment) so we can now be a bit more versatile in our sounds. Bring it on 2023! I even got to smuggle a commemorative pint glass (or two 🙂) out!

That's interesting. It's more expensive that a Talkbox but the pedals more generally versatile plus you don't need to worry about the faff of the tube. Would be interestred in a sounds demo if you are feeling brave 🙂

I’ve got a Bassballs on the way and have an offer of a Talkbox from a BC’er. I’m going to try the EHX first (maybe combining with a light distortion/synth/fuzz) before investing in something more complicated and expensive. Ironically we have gig tomorrow night (Teddington Beer Festival) and we’ve dropped this song from the listing as we didn’t feel it was ready!
