I don't miss lugging it around (although for a combo it wasn't that bad) but I still feel there's room in my life for another Trace after I sold my 7215 SMC combo. I have my eye out for a similar head as a backup for my Shuttle.

Basses:-Shuker JJ Burnel, no hesitation. Also a Jetglo Ric to satisfy my curiousity. Otherwise I think I'm sorted. Amps-I'm pretty happy with my Shuttle. Trace Elliot V8 & matching cab, if I'm allowed roadies to lug 'em. If not, maybe a lightweight 4 X 10-Epifani probably.

Who would like to see my Ultra light Prototype?
Deep Thought replied to MoonBassAlpha's topic in Amps and Cabs
Looks good-is it necessary for the top to be angled? If not the Shuttle would be a lot safer on the top if it was flat-or alternatively rig some sort of platform to keep it level. I have two Ashdown Mini cabs with Celestions in them-if I'm doing a low-key practice I just use one of them with my Shuttle-it's made my practice amp redundant! -

Can't speak from experience, but I understand Phil Jones Bass Briefcases are pretty good-there's one for sale here:- http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...=bass+briefcase
Not mine, nor nowt to do with me but as it looks a bit of a BIN bargain, I'll not be urinating on anyones bonfire if I flag it up.
Strewth! I live in St.Austell! There's never a bargain anywhere near me! Sadly, I don't really have a use for it, room for it, or a spare forty quid knocking around. Knickers.

I've been in the same predicament-I've tried loads of different strings in search of a set that last more than one gig. My Ibanez SR500 had Elixirs on it, and I hated those as the coating started wearing off and getting all stringy (and I was playing with my fingers at the time). Tried DR Highbeams and didn't think they lasted any better than anything else. I'm currently on D'Addario XL's and am finding those pretty good-they last more than one gig anyway. The best ones I ever used were Skull Strings, US made with some sort of coating-they lasted really well, but my local joint doesn't sell them any more.

I use Schallers, but they're not a 'fit and forget' item. I carry a spanner to tighten the nut on the strap, and the biggest problem is the screws IMHO are too thin-on both my P's they're thinner than the ones they're replacing, and don't grip the holes well enough. I've done several matchstick and bits of wood in the screwholes repairs, and they still come undone. I always check them before a gig. Now I've drilled out the strap buttons and gone back to the original screws-I'll see how I get on with that-could be that the only permanent solution is to drill out the holes, glue in a proper hardwood dowel and redrill the holes-that could be my next line of attack. I wouldn't be without straplocks of some description, but they do need to be monitored.
I can't speak for the woman concerned but if it was my bass I'd expect to be consulted before any work was done, especially a full refinish, and not presented with a fait accompli done by someone I perhaps didn't approve of.
+1. Ok, you dropped it-accidents happen. Far better to come clean and offer to put right the damage than to try and do it on the quiet and hope she doesn't notice.

Lovely bass-I had an SR500, which was a cracking bit of kit-neck was a bit narrow for my tastes, but it was a still a great bass.

Just bought a Genz Benz footswitch from Etienne. Hard to imagine an easier transaction-lightning fast shipping, beautifully packed item, and a pleasure to deal with. Can't recommend highly enough.

Yeah, been there-similar situation, many years ago, they'd all played together before, and I was the newcomer. Then their old bass player became available, so I got the elbow. All going great, then kaput. Sucks, but there you go. They never got anywhere after I got sacked, anyway. I suspect your lot, too, may have somebody in mind to replace you with. May not be any better than you ( to be fair, in my case the other guy was considerably better than me), just he's their mate and you're not-at least not to the same extent. sh*t happens, another of the many delights of being in bands. Try not to take it to heart-something better will come along.

I've always thought they were the best-looking bass Gibson ever made. Dunno what they're like to play, but that sunburst one is about the nicest I've seen.

Bought only a few weeks ago from these very pages, from a Basschatter who in turn had only had it a few months from new. I bought it as an experiment to see whether I needed a 5-string, and I have now concluded that I don't. No reflection whatsoever on this fine bass, I've just concluded that I am a 4-string man. All black, with matching headstock, and ebanol fingerboard with side dots. Active pickups with slap switch. Looks fabulous, and ideal for someone, who, like me, wants to have a go at a 5-string, or a backup for a seasoned 5-string player. For the sake of honesty there are some very light pick marks on the front, only visible at certain angles, and a small paint flaw on the top horn, again only noticeable close up. Otherwise as new, with a new set of Elites on it. For sale for what I paid for it, £180, plus postage, or collection of course if you fancy a trip to Cornwall.

Delighted to see this thread-if it had not appeared I was just about to start one with the exact same question. I just bought a small vocal PA (Phonic Soundpod 700) which for the one gig we've used it for, worked brilliantly. Would have been nice to get something bigger and better, but cash and time did not permit. We've been borrowing a very similar Peavey setup for a while. I'm currently still borrowing monitors, but plan on getting my own soon. Any ideas on minimum wattage, or whether it's best to go with passive or active, or passive slaved to active? Advice on what brands would also be handy-it appears you can get cheapish own-brand ones which seem to have a lot for the money, but are they any good? I'm debating whether to get two cheaper ones together, or get one decent active one and get another passive slave at a later date-actually as I write this, I think I already know the answer, but comments invited.

I went to see my mate's band last week-The Bucket Boys. These boys have musical cred coming out their ears-their lead guitarist has played with Pink Floyd (my other mate who was with me can testify to this-he saw him with them 20 years ago at Wembley), thier drummer has done some pretty impressive session work, and played on at least one big hit in the 60's. Their bass player was using a Sunn Mustang (looked exactly like a Precision) through a Behringer combo-about 100W I would guess-and looked to be cranking it pretty hard, with no PA support. Sounded great.
I'm all in favour of working out what visual image will best support the music. But I always wriggle when someone talks about "Uniforms": Sven the psycho guitarist at far left
Which one is you then Skank?

Since I inherited the job of frontman with our lot, I've decided that I need to pay a bit of attention to the visual aspect, if only to distract attention from my lousy bass playing and questionable vocals. I agree that it's important for at least one of you to stand out visually-I've pretty much taken that upon myself. The other two generally leave it to me-the guitarist likes to be Mr.Casual and pretty much goes onstage wearing what he turned up in-the drummer usually puts on a motorcycle-related shirt. I have no problem with that-I don't feel the need for all three of us to have a united image. It's true that you don't have to be yourself-I've been told several times that I'm a different bloke when I'm onstage. You're putting on a show-no need to go OTT, but it does make a difference.
