1.
There are various sites that'll automagically snipe for you at the last minute; I've 'won' a few times using them. Google 'ebay snipe'.
Yeah, I have used them in the past, but it's rare that I bid on anything these days that I'm that desperate to have. It's more of a case of 'Oh that's quite nice/handy etc., I'll bung in a bid and see if I get it.' It's been a while since there's been anything that I'm so keen to have that I'd use a sniping programme. I also tend to go for a lot more Buy It Now's nowadays.
2. Just bought some DR Hi-Beam's from him-very pleasant, easy transaction, arrived next day. Splendid fellow!
3. I've been beat by a quid more than once, which is most annoying. The only time I bid before the last minute is if I'm going to be out when the auction ends and can't get to a computer, in which case I bid my max amount and hope for the best. Otherwise it's the last minute snipe for me every time-it's the nature of the beast. If you have a price you don't want to go below, put a reserve on.
4. Sorry you've had to let it go so soon-it's a gorgeous bass. Somebody will be very well chuffed indeed with it. I presume you've put the scratch plate back on then?
5. I always find nothing inspires me to play more than going to see live bands. I'm always itching to get back up on stage again after seeing somebody else up there doing it. That having been said, if you don't want to do it any more, don't do it. Go do something else.
6. You can get proper ones from Allparts-bottom of the page:- http://www.allparts.uk.com/allparts-guitar...112.html?p=shop
7. Ok, about time I got a pic of my new rig up. Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 with a pair of 8ohm 300 Watt Ashdown ABM Mini 12's, customised with Celestion Neo's. To say I'm chuffed with it is an understatement, I'm getting all sorts of compliments about the look and the sound, plus I can carry the whole lot into a venue in one go if I so desire (amp in a laptop bag, speaker in each hand). Best sound I've had, was fairly happy with my old Trace combo, but this blows it away at a fraction of the weight. Particularly pleased with the tube preamp. Minor niggles are the 'Buffalo leather' covering, which I don't think will stand up to much-a pair of Roqsolid covers are in the offing. Also one of them was damaged in transit-don't use DHL!!! They dropped one of them, bashed a metal corner protector in and caused one of the tweeters to crack and come away from its mountings. Nick Carey, who I bought them from, is very helpfully pursuing a claim on my behalf, will let you know how it all turns out. Thankfully it doesn't affect the sound-used them live a couple of weeks ago and was delighted. Anyhow, here's the rig in all its glory.
8. Looks incredible, except for the interchangable wood bit, which looks like a folded rubber johnny.
9. I recently got the non-backrest one. Delighted with it-very light and compact, and perfectly stable.
10. 'He's a wobber!' 'And a wapist!' 'And a pickpocket!' 'Shut up!' Welcome-no doubt you've now realised what you're dealing with here.
11. I was heavily into them when I was at school-probably the only kid in the school who was! They did some cracking stuff-'Closer' is my favourite album, followed by 'Still',and 'Atmosphere' is just breathtaking. I agree it's not exactly a barrel of laughs though, not that that's necessarily a bad thing. Funnily enough, I don't listen to them much any more. Used to love New Order for the first few years, I lost interest when they started making silly videos of blokes dressed up as turtles slapping each other round the face.
12. Welcome-you lucky bugger! I'm fairly happy with my Fenders, but a Shuker JJ is one of the few I still lust after. Did you have any of your own mods, or is it fairly standard? You should know that it's a forum rule that pictures must be posted!
13. I won't touch anything with a buckle-all leather or all fabric, with straplocks for me.
14. How the flippin' heck can you reverse over a bass in a case and not notice? Surely you would know that you were about to run over something that size and stop? Apparently not.
15. The two biggests criticisms directed at Ashdown that I've come across are their reliability, and the 'wooliness' of their sound. I saw a whole thread on Talkbass a while ago of people recounting their tales of woe regarding their Ashdowns and what had gone wrong with them. As usual, though, I wouldn't be surprised if there were a shed load more people who were perfectly happy with theirs, that you don't hear about. I've also seen a lot of threads where people praise Ashdown's customer service if anything does go wrong. As far as the 'wooliness' is concerned, I had a MAG300 4x10 and I was pretty happy with the sound I was getting-no wooliness at all. To those who accuse them of wooliness, I refer you to Mr. Jean-Jacques Burnel of the Stranglers, an Ashdown endorsee for a number of years, who by no stretch of the imagination can be described as sounding woolly! I'm not a fan of their slider/rotary EQ either, but I think on the whole ABM stuff is fairly well-regarded and used by a lot of people-from what I can gather the UK built stuff is the better bet.
16.
I'm 39..... heard the name mentioned..... not a stranglers fan..... does he still play with them now? I supported the Stranglers a couple of years ago.... wonder if he was playing with them then?
Touring Australia with them as we speak. Yes, he would have been with them a couple of years ago-he's been their bass player since they formed in 1974 .
17. Fair do's, whatever floats your boat. Enjoy.
18. I've got a pair of ER20's which I don't wear any more because of the little plastic stalks that stick out of your ears. I replaced them with a set of Doc's Pro plugs, which are far less conspicuous. Aiming to get some ER15's soon.
19. Gorgeous bass, and I'm not usually one for Jazzes either-just one thing... PUT THE BLOODY SCRATCH PLATE BACK ON!!!!!!!! -please. Seriously, very bad idea. I reckon if a Jazz has a control plate like that it needs a scratchplate-it looks daft sat there on its own without one. IMHO. If you don't like the white one, change it by all means, but don't leave it like that. With the greatest of respect, knickers to Jaco Pastorius.
20. It would appear Roqsolid are the boys-Seen their Ebay ads for ages, but never knew if they were any good. Cheers boys.
21.
I'd get a refund and get a used one from a basschatter.
More money I know, but nice... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=42641&hl=
22. Anybody have any recommendations regarding covers for speaker cabs? My only complaint with my Ashdown Mini 12's is that I think the 'buffalo leather' covering is going to get pretty battered with gigging. Are the Ashdown ones any good, or are there better ones? Ta in advance.
23. Played a pub gig to about ten people-but people who were enjoying themselves, up and dancing and having a good time. We had a good time too, very relaxed and just had fun. And my Genz Shuttle 6.0 is sounding fantastic through my new Celestion Neo-equipped Ashdown Mini 12's.
24. I'll have it if it's not gone-PM sent.
