So much hostility on this thread! The album seems to be selling well enough and they're getting higher profile gigs than most of us will ever achieve, so who are you to judge their commercial potential? The idea that something you dislike must have no merit looks a lot like pure snobbery, and I thought better of you than that.
Here. Here. -

I didn't say anything about status or money. They get to play at Glastonbury. That's good. That's success for a new young band in anyone's eyes. Apart from your's maybe. I think calling the young girl on the drums "the bloke on the drums" is offensive. She's a young girl just doing her thing. Other musicians should encourage her - not disparage her. That's just a bit nasty mate. -
Why the f*** do you think stage size and show scale have anything to do with our musical ambitions? You love this band, so what? Thanks for showing them to us, are we allowed to dislike them? This turned into a discussion about sexism probably because there's naff all to say about this band. You think they're hot and you would like to pooch them, that's great, go for it. Let us know how you get on.
Did I touch a raw nerve. Maybe you're not as successful as you hoped you would be? You seem to be an unpleasant and angry person to me. -

I can't really believe that this has turned into an commentary on sexism. Some people's minds too hard at work? My original point was that I loved the track and the style that it was played in. And, I think the girls are hot. A great combination - IMO. Anyone who says the drummer looks like a bloke or either of them looks plain is wrong and is missing the point. Also, those of you who say she isn't a good guitarist ...... it's not a music lesson. It's entertainment. And I think they put on a good show - certainly make a spectacle. Check this out nay-sayers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XC8hsFA-lg They get to do this - and you, most probably, don't. It's the forumantes again I guess. The downside of the wonderful Internet. -
Cheers, probably should have done a search before starting the thread. Looks like it'll be around the £150 mark so may pick one up if they really are up to the job. I don't hold with all Behringer gear self destructing within 6 months of purchase
Well. If you lookie here, you will see something curious: http://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/Mackie-SRM150-Compact-PA-System-single/8GK?origin=product-ads&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=&utm_campaign=PLA+Mackie&utm_content=AqYwn3qH%7Cdc_pcrid_31405737559_plid__kword__match__ What looks like the same product but badged as a Mackie for £100 more. I have a general "no Behringer" rule myself. Most of their stuff is too low budget for me. But this little thing just fitted the bill. I mount mine on a mike stand at head height to the left of me behind the PA stack and only me knows it's there.
Lol. You conveniently fail to quote my very next sentence, where I say that Barefaced cabs (and in fact any other "newer generation" driver cabs) will enable you to downsize considerably as they are (depending on which particular model) significantly more sensitive (ie. louder).
Dammit. Hamfist. I apologise. You are right. I am guilty of not reading your whole post. Sorry.

I created just such a thread a while back and ended up buying one of these: http://www.dv247.com/pa-systems-and-live-sound/behringer-eurolive-b205d-active-pa-monitor-speaker-system--71188 Perfect for the job (three piece loud pop rock band).
.......If you are going to be needing to produce all the bass sound for the room, then you are seriously underestimating what you might need. In that case I'd be looking for a 500W plus amp and at least 4x10 or 2x12 speakers minimum.....
I disagree with this. I mostly play an Ashdown MiBass 550 bass amp through a single Barefaced Compact 1 x 15 cab at the moment. Play in small to medium pubs and clubs. As it's an 8 Ohm cab, I must only be getting something like 300 watts. There is no circumstance where I would be able to turn my rig up full whack. It would deafen anyone and would be unworkable on a small to medium stage. The amp is tiny in size and the cab is .... well, very compact. And it does me fine. I think the days of monster back-breaking rigs are over.
I'm certainly not having a go at you , my friend , and I don't think having and expressing a sexual interest in a woman is neccesarilly sexist - it depends on how you express it . My point is just that I can't understand why otherwise fairly plain women with basses send otherwise reasonable folks into a frenzy of lust . That's sexist isn't it ? Oh well , I never claimed to be perfect .
I think you need to get out more dingbat. My original point was that they are people who make raw rock music and look great. Okay. They don't have a bass player - which is bad as far as this forum goes. So ..... I'll be their bass player. It's my kinda stuff. You do seem to be one who make negative Marvin The Paranoid Android comments. Maybe you don't wish to come across that way. I dunno. Maybe you just think too much. Nothing wrong with a bloke thinking a girl looks hot ..... while playing a guitar too. Works for me. -
Brilliant indeed. John Robb is a legend!
I thought you in particular might like/know these guys. See, we agree on some things! -
...... I could make an exception for this lot. Deap Vally. I've mentioned them before. Pure sex. This is what real women are like. Proper raw music. If I could be anyone's bass player ....... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-iHCvYTV_8

Saw these guys supporting The Stranglers at The Roundhouse earlier this year. Brilliant, brilliant live act. Some kind of punk sub-genre going on here. Is it called "Horror Punk"? I dunno, but it is right up my street. The front man John Robb is a nutter. Very entertaining. ...... and oh I luuuuurve that guttural bass tone. Just bought their new album. This is (for me) the big track on it. Nuts and brilliant at the same time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64QXqmjZ86w&feature=share
Fenders are great because they sound so good. You see ANY band on tv or at a gig and 9 times out of 10 , it's a Fender. Case closed !
Oh yes. Amen. -
bass players who also wrote the songs

Paul Weller. -
Our sort of evolves. If we have a great gig, we'll repeat it a couple of times. We'll learn one or two new songs a month and gradually add these in here and there. We drop some songs and replace them with various items from the song list depending on the anticipated audience. We very rarely make wholesale changes. That way, you can cut down on rehearsal times.

It really does depend how much "clout" you have in the situation. If you are Sting, Lemmy, Macca or Roger Waters etc ...... you can employ your own FOH guy who must do what YOU say or he/she is fired. More often than not, you won't have that clout - so you can politely suggest to the FOH engineer that your particular sound is important to the band - and hope that he will work with you. He may well have a standard way that HE likes to hear bass - and knows how to twiddle his knobs to get there. It's the way of The World.
What a great time to be a bass player. When a traditionally one-trick pony like a Precision can now have such a wide variety of tone from vintage to modern and everything in between, you just know that life as a bass player is good.
Yep. -
But does this sound ‘proper’? And if not, why not??
I don't like the sound of this bass, no. I understand that you might, and that's okay. But I don't really. Three reasons. (1) I just don't like how it sounds. (2) It doesn't sound like a Precision to me. (3) It sounds a bit muffled or something. -
I didn't get this at all. Unknown bass player plays vaguely similar riffs on four variants of a P-bass. Each has a different set-up (note the silly-low action on the '51 RI), different strings (particularly the 5-year-old Rotos on the '74), and obviously different pickups. Where was the informative comparison? What did this video tell me?
I told me that they all sounded real good. Who cares about the strings ya-de-ya-de-yada ..... them there basses sound like basses should. Proper. -
After 30 years playing and going through some of the 'best' basses out there i still don't believe you can beat the fender p or jazz bass. Iv had basses costing 4k and some costing £40 its not the bass its in us to make the music. Iv played basses that have pre amps as sensitive as my **** and some dead as door-nails... I (personally) think you cant beat a fender. Right now im playing a fender usa p bass deluxe v and a line 6 variaxe (great) ... I think the fender is the best bass i have played in all ways, and while i know its a very personal thing... they really are the work horse of the bass world, at least for a jobbing bass player as i am.... yeah its nice to see exotic wood but paying 2k because of it and lets face it many end up for sale i simply cant see it anymore... i think id prefer a nice table top rather than a bass to look at for exotic wood... yeah it changes the sound...but at the end of the day Fender got it right...After playing pro for many years and using and selling many basses. You can get most tones in the fingers, where and how we play, anything else can come from the tone and amp controls, you can 'will the sound' out of most basses, rather than trying endless pre amp options.... This is just my view of course and i can say i have played everything from top end spectors to old p bass copies... personally i always come back to the work horse of the bass world... Fender.. and lets face it a nice one is by no mean cheap ! but i personally think they got it right. It could well be because 30 years ago the first bass i ever had was a kay p bass copy, so i guess i grew up with the shape and fender basses were the (and still are) the main axe for most players back then.
Sir, you are the most righteous person on this forum. Well done. The "nay sayers" will be along in a minute, but they are whistling in the wind. Fender dominates the world of bass and will forever rule the un-Fenders. It is the way of the bass guitar. -
Based on the handy stat at the bottom of the page, I can tell you that, in the last 15 minutes, 780 users have been online, of which over 3/4 weren't logged on or don't have an account. That suggests a LOT of traffic, and presumably not-insignificant hosting bills.
I'd need a closer estimate than "a lot" to make the point though.
