1. +1 for Samson Airline. Don't want to be tethered to an amp. My bonecrushing tone is not affected.
2. Yep. Got cramp in left hand (right handed pick player) during the last few songs of the second, and last, 1 hour set a couple of months back. Skipped dinner that day and intended to eat afterwards .... won't do that again. Fingers locked together and would hardly move. Couldn't do encore ... so we didnt do one. Got it again, in a minor way in the middle of the first set a couple of weeks back. Got some non-diet coke and some peanuts at the interval and managed to survive second set. I now pay more attention to diet before a gig and stretch my hands/fingers before and during sets. It's a bit of a worry though.
3. Bought a Jack Casady bass from Dan. Turned up quickly, well-packaged, as described and in good nick. He even provided a spare set of strings. Can't say fairer than that. Top bloke.
4. Hi Guys I know you've had your IT issues of late, but why is it that I am now receiving spam to my email account which originates from Basschat? Something about a conspiracy to kill Princess Diana Were you aware of this?
5. Black is good.
6.
They're not intended to sound like precision basses. Neither is the Jazz Bass - are you going to tell us that they're all useless too?
I don't mean to be rude. Maybe you're misunderstanding what I am saying? If you ignore my flippant initial comment about "nobody needs..." etc - then I say this. As a Precision player (since forever) I dabbled in Warwicks a couple of times as lots of people said they were good. I think they probably are good - they certainly seem to be screwed together well. They just don't do it for me sound-wise. They seem, to me, not to fill out the sound in a band anywhere like I can do with a Precision. I didn't expect them to sound like a Precision, but, nevertheless, didn't like the less substantial sound that I made with one (or three in my case). I would correct you though. A Jazz can sound very similar to a Precision in certain circumstances. In fact I CAN get the sound I want out of a Fender Jazz bass. Lots of bottom end there - and I like the growl. From time-to-time, I buy the odd USA Black Jazz bass on a whim. They are good. To me, personally, a thumping hard pick playing Precision player who plays in a band with the bass high and obvious in the mix, I could never get a Warwick to do it for me. I think the necks are great, but I personally think they lack a bit in the sound department. I'm happy that you seem to like them though.
7.
I agree with you about the necks, but I disagree that they "don't have much bottom end". My Streamer can rock it PHAAAT ... and hold it tight. Your perspective comes from the fact that you're a P-bass player, right? As LukeFRC says above, if it's the thump thing you're talking about then that's something else all together. There's nothing lacking in the sound of a Warwick. I've found those basses to be incredibly versatile. Such strong and present tone. What's not to like?
Yeah, maybe. I'm a Precision player. I have owned a Fortress One and a Streamer and borrowed a $$ thing for a couple of weeks. To me all of them had great fast necks. They were very slim, of course, compared to the tree trunk Precisions I favour. I just couldn't get the sound that I wanted out of any of them. They actually look high quality things when you see them and feel them ...... but I just couldn't get a clank and rumble out of them. I did try to like 'em, but they're not for me.
8. I saw them on Friday at The Roundhouse ..... and he was using the usual 2 x 4x10 and 2 x 1x15 Ashdown cabs. You can't see his amp as he usually puts just his tuner on the top nowadays. Wonder why he's not on the site? I went there to have a peek as I thought I might get myself one of his amps, so wanted to look at the spec again. Not there any more.
9. Should I read anything into the fact that Jean Jacques is no longer listed on the Ashdown website as one of their artists and his amp in no longer listed among their products? NB: Turned out to be a false alarm. See later in thread.
10.
Thread, it took a while, but your delivery of bollocks has finally arrived.
In my opinion, they have have great necks - but they don't sound great. Don't have much in the way of bottom end. I was always having to compensate using my amps. I think, personally, they might be okay of you're a slapper and a popper - but for rock tones, they're not my thing. No thump in there.
11. Just got back in from a night out in London watching The Stranglers at The Roundhouse. Utter, utter brilliance. JJ at his sparkling best, laughing, joking and smiling his way through a thumping, hit-laden set. A true bass player's bass player.
12.
About as funny as a Fender fetish.
Very good. You are a funny one.
13.
What a planker!
Ha ha, There you go again.
14.
In my jamiroquai phase at the moment and realising how good stuart zender was and I love his sound! I NEED a warwick! Anything like a corvette, steamer or a rockbass the cheaper the better . Something slightly better around the £500 mark would be ideal, What do people think of these basses? The different models and options What's the difference sonically and performance between a passive and active warwick?
Believe me. Nobody needs a Warwick. Great necks. Great, great necks even. Lacking something in the sound department.
15.
I do! Black! Black is the day! heavy is my heart! - so much so that I'm going to paint it black & turn Goth. maybe it should have been a Gibson Gothic?
You could maybe even try turning funny.
16.
...So, taking this in another direction, what about all the people forking out for the likes of Sandberg and Nordstrand that make copy Jazz and Precision basses, but to unquestionably higher standards then Fender themselves..?
Shame on them (Sandberg and Nordstrand I mean).
17. It's just like all those people who wear cheap TAG fake watches. They think they look sophisticated, but the Nike trainers, tracksuit and fags give it away. Take some pride in yourselves people. Don't give your wife a fake Cartier watch from down the market. It means that you don't value her. Don't buy yourself a copy bass guitar, it shows that you consider yourself to be of low value. There are plenty of affordable alternatives out there without demeaning yourself. Or ..... you could chose a licenced copy. Then you wouldn't be so seedy.
18. I'm sorry, but I fully support the "Rickenbacker Police". It is a blatant copy making money off the back of someone else's design and reputation. Bass makers of the world ........ make your own designs !!!!!!!
19. I'd do the gig. Have played in many an unsavoury place. If the man don't pay, then never go back.
20. Hmmmmm. It's a Mexican. They're only really suited to Mariachi and the like.
21. That reminds me. Haven't done The Times crossword for a while.
22. I think you'll find that you don't actually see the actual price paid which will often be about 10% less than the advertised price.
23. They love a bit of it.
