I quite like it - which is unusual for a first listen. Video is quite quirky and artistic. I like that too.
Yer in me power! Absolutely no to hidden agendas. I love dissing the fender and you wont find me speaking ill of any respectable makers of MODERN quality instruments. I'm a basschat nut and mainly stick to the repair tech advice threads but occasionally cannot help myself when it comes to this kind of stuff depending on my level of grumpiness on any given day. My comments here rarely make me any new friends or sales as far as I know.
To be fair, I didn't say hidden. Had a look at the Lettsbass website. Fair play and applaude the original, non copy, designs. Although, as a consequence, your bound to recommend something other than Fender. Wasn't dissing you. Fair play to you - but I don't agree with your view on The Big F.
This is wisdom...and coming from a superb luthier this statement is an absolute truism. I have been super dissapointed by most of the new Fenders I have played. Fenders stranglehold on the bass market is absolute...to the stage that when even considering criticising them you feel a strange sort of guilt and you know you will have plenty of players lining up to shout you down! Its almost like a form of brain washing. As I have been saying for some years...the best Fenders I have played have been Lakland skylines! Ahem...preparing for an ear bashing
I think the "superb luthier" may have an agenda which extends beyond enjoying a product though.

I've had more than a dozen of them in my time - all USA Fenders. I have three now and they suit me just fine. Some of the basses I've had in the past, whether Fender or otherwise, have needed some tweaks from my guitar tech to get them right, and then they have been fine. Most of my Fenders have been mojo players from day 1 - three or four of them needed a little help, and then they were fine. Don't worry about the Fender haters on here. I forgive them.

Love this bass. Looks great.
Novelty basses are the ugliest. Outside that, Fender's Jazz & P basses are let down by that hideous cyst of a top horn! I mean, look!.... OK, some folk might like it. But there's no accounting for taste!
Those Bongo things don't look great and them there Dingwalls can only be an acquired taste.

I think there are only four classic bass guitars: Fender Precision Fender Jazz Rickenbacker 4001/4003 Musicman Stingray

How does it compare to this '63 Precision? http://andybaxterbass.com/details.php?id=338

If you're playing a large hall, then the PA should do all of the work and use your own backline for monitoring. Doesn't really matter if you get "that" sound on stage, just so long as you can hear the notes you are playing. What's important is what the audience hear - check it out via wireless or a long lead from out front, or let the sound guy work on it.

I have a Fusion gig bag that takes two bases. I got mine from here http://www.guitarandampshop.co.uk Not cheap, but then again, I'm carring over £2K worth of basses in it.
It depends what you mean by "That" tone? We probably all have different ideas of what "that" tone is, some song references would be helpful.
Yeah. You'll probably find you'll like lots of the THAT sounds available too. Start first with a bass that you like that has a good acoustic tone when unplugged and go from there.

£166 with a neckplate that looks like I made it. Rather you than me whoever you are.

Hold on. "The Tuesday Club"? Does that mean you are Arsenal fans?

are there any super bands with poor bass players?
What a strange thread. Did everyone suddenly become competitive guitarists overnight?
Quite. What would we wanna be dissing ANY bass player for? -
Mondeo estate ticks all the boxes for me.
Quite possibly a very sensible option.
Folks, Just wondering if I could get the benefit of your experiences with transporting your basses and amps etc. What I'm looking at is to get a car which I can throw 2 or 3 basses into in their hard cases (eg. the standard MusicMan molded case) along with a small combo. The important thing is that I can fit the basses in the boot in their large cases with minimum faffling. I have 3 cars at the moment (as I live in various places) and none of them are any good for space. They are a MINI Cooper S, a Jeep Wrangler and a BMW Z3M Coupe (odd 2 seater shooting-brake effort). What I'm looking at is a (secondhand) SUV or an estate car. I'm going to do a trawl of the dealerships in the holidays with my biggest case, but would welcome any views on the following (only if you know from experience whether they easily accommodate a large bass case). - Range Rover - Range Rover Sport - Porsche Cayenne - VW Toureg - Audi A4 estate - Audi A6 estate - Audi A3 sportback Thanks for any guidance. CB
Beware the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. I had one of each a while back. They're not as big as you think they are in the boot. However, I had a loaner Volvo XC70 for a coupla weeks recently and got the guitar and bass amps, the basses and guitars, the lighting rig, the PA, half the drum kit ..... and the band in there. Amazing.

Chuuuuuune.

Cameraman seemed to give you more screen footage than the good-lookin girl too. Was it your weird shoes - or was it your funky-coloured bass? When you have two bassists, it's only proper that they both play Precisions. Good stuff.

The Trees - Rush Down in the Tube Station at Midnight - The Jam Peaches - The Stranglers Hawkwind - Motorhead (yes I did say Hawkwind) ... check it out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p02-77XI1Gs
I nearly added something else, but didn't. But since you've been so nice, let me say this. That post you made said more about you and your odd Fender-hating attitude than it does any form of reality. You don't like hearing Precisions? Stuff and nonsense. I have often thought your posts are rude, biased and of little value. Get a life. I've printed it again..so maybe you'll read it and get it this time round, but I will not hold my breath judging by most of your bass related posts.

Must admit, when I attend local gigs, I often think, oh no, P-Bass...!! ....... but mostly P-Basses can be the kiss of death..
The men in white coats are coming for you. This is so wrong it's hilarious.

What brand are the Emperors new clothes ?
Fender nonsense
-
It's odd that the colour under the pickguard is so different to the rest of the body and the headstock. I know wood coloured ones are more prone to this - but it seems very stark in this case.

Is my new instrument is actually an ex-demo?
The Dark Lord replied to The Dark Lord's topic in General Discussion
There is another side to this - all those shops (that we bemoan are fast disappearing) that have to hold stock and allow us grimy musicians in to play their instruments for us to then turn around and say "this is ex-demo" or "yes I like this but can I have a boxed one" or worst of all, "yes, I like this but I'll buy it from GAK/Thomann/A.N.Other". Instruments are not like TV's, fridges etc, they are all that bit different and we should be going in to shops to try out and find the one we like best. The fact that the scratchplate covering is marked is the whole point the covering is on there in the first place! Ex music shop owner rant over !
I know what you're saying and largely agree. I am just asking on this thread if my experience is something that is normal. I am a BIG supporter of local shops (of all kinds) but my local music shop in particular, whose proprietor ...... Martin of MB Music in Bognor ..... will tell you that I am a very good customer of his. He doesn't do Gibsons though and I wanted an SG or a Les Paul - hence why i went with a chain store. As I said, I'm very happy with the attitude of the chain store guys so far and will be reasonable with them - as always.
