1.
Wha'??? Erm... Priest? Metallica? Megadeth? Just about any other legendary metal band? And Maiden have even got three guitarists, FFS...
I personally have never seen the point in a second guitarist. I don't really like the bands that you have mentioned. I would add another instrument instead - keys or horns perhaps - even a backing singer. I agree there is always an exception - Thin Lizzy for example - but generally not for me.
2. I agree with Lozz. The MIA P is THE bass. With it, you get a no-questions asked seat at the top table of bass playing. Strap on. Rock.
3. Hi My TC Electronic RH450 is up for sale. This has been my gigging amp for the last 18 months (I gig once every three weeks or so). It has been brilliant. I play it with the matching 1 x 12 and 2 x 10 cabs giving 4 ohms. Loud as your ever going to need - great range of tones, very light, built-in tuner and three memory buttons. Yours for £425 posted or £415 if you're able to pick it up from somewhere between Worthing and Southampton on the South Coast. Perfect working order. I've gone and bought the bigger RH750 version in a fit of GAS. I was gonna keep em both.
4.
When it comes to spending money I will never see the light!!! Sorry, that was bad real bad I bit the bullet and got them, when I have the stage set up this weekend I will post a few pics. Cost me under €800, ithink I will prob end up getting another one for bigger gigs but I am hoping 2 will do the job for me on most of the venues.
How were they? Have you used them yet? I'm thinking of getting one or two of these.
5. It depends on the rest of the band - and if it is a song that is dear to one of them. I did play in a band once where the "band leader" (he who started the band) insisted on deadly accuracy, notes, tone the lot. I left the band sharpish when he started saying he was listening to everything in high bitrate to be able to get it perfect and that we should be the same. I generally get the idea of a song and work with the other guys to do our version of it.
6.
Or a band with a 2nd guitar come to that!
+1 to that. Never seen the point of a 2nd guitarist.
7.
In what way is it not music? not having a pop, im just curious at to why you think that try this
Yeah, I appreciate that ...... but this particular clip reminds me of a demo cassette that I once got with a portable tape recorder. Sort of musak rather than music. If you like it ... cool ..... but, to me, there isn't enough time left to be listening to this. Curious production on this song too - the guitar and bass appear to be coming through in the centre of the stereo field on top of each other. Not for me.
8. Anyone know the length of time from order to delivery on a Shuker JJ at the moment?
9. I have no idea what fusion is, but the clips above that I listened to are diabolical. To me, it's not even music. I 'm happy if you like it and that's your thing, but an utter waste of time to me.
10. If you find a bass that you really like ... your Squier for example .... Just go with it. I'll bet if you tried lots of othe seemingly identical Squiers, they wouldn't be the same. Sell the MM and buy some more bass gear - like an amp or pedals or even lights or whatever you don't have.
11. All you now need to pay for a seat at the top table of bass playing is £500. Amazing. Might be an opportunity for a Mex or Jap player to step up.
12. If I like reggae, it's for the guitar and keyboards, not the basslines. I detest funk.
13. I don't move around that much - but I don't like to be tied down. I use a Samson Airline, swear by it and would not be without it - I'd buy another if it broke. Might even buy another one as a spare. 14. Okay ...... just back from the gig. It could not have gone better. What a pro. He had both transposed and mostly memorized the drum score from a recording of one of our previous gigs - and he played it note for note. An uncanny level of musical skill. And a great bloke too. One of the most enjoyable evenings I can remember. I even smiled once (and I would make Ivan Lendl seem like a Chuckle Brother).
15. I played a 4003 at a recording studio this week. And it qualified for some attention as it was in black. It looked cool, it sounded plinky and the controls didn't make things any better. My opinion hasn't changed. An niche product.
16.
Fender P for me all the way now. After searching for the best feeling, playing and sounding bass (for me) and going through loads of different ones (specifically avoiding Fenders for some stupid reason), I bought a new US standard P earlier this year and can't ever see myself wanting to play another bass.
Yep.
17. Fender USA Precision. Nothing else comes close. Accept no substitute. Strap on. Rock.
18. I see you player a Fender Precision. You'll be fine.
19. We use a rehearsal room sort of weekly when we're rehearsing a new set. Usually three of us - bass, guitar and drums. We pay £30 for 7 pm to midnight for one place ( which we realise it a great rate ) or £10 an hour for a place in town ...... or £15 an hour for another place in town. A good enough PA with three vocal mics and stands, a decent standard amp and cab for the bass and guitar and a drum kit with a stool - but no cymbals is sort of standard everywhere. And required. Extra nice to haves are somewhere to park, a tea and coffee bar (or at least a vending machine) and a shop counter with strings and plectrums etc. I guess you could also make some money from these. Also ... ALL ... of the places I go to have recording facilities. That can be just room recording that you can buy at the end of the session for £5 to £10 ...... slightly more if you want video ....... but they all have a proper recordings studio which can be used with an engineer at a daily or hourly rate.
20. PM'd
21. I think Steve Fishman, bassist with Hugh Cornwell, plays through a Peavey head and he has a great sound.
22. Playing with a dep drummer next Saturday. This is the first time I will have done this. He's a guy with a great reputation around our parts. Even sounds like a real pro. He's taken a recording of one our recent gigs and says he can transpose it, learn it and play exactly that when we play next week. We haven't even met never mind rehearsed together. I'm a roll with the punches kinda geezer - so I can run with this kinda thing. Our frontman/guitarist is a bit more wary though. He's excitable and nervy and worries about such things. Have any of you guys actually done this? Played with a dep drummer having never met or rehearsed with them?
23. A short list is appearing as follows:

Line 6 M20D
Behringer Xenyx 2222FX
Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2
Alto ZMX124FX
Allen & Heath Zed12FX
Mackie ProFX16
24. The post below is very good.
Bit of a rushed post as I'm at the office, but, given that the themes on this thread that are coming through for me are : 1. Good places to play are hard to find, and 2. Some people seem to have a circuit of good gigs, whilst others are struggling.... How about we take the 'community' aspect of BC seriously and share some intelligence on the good venues - and the others (as per the Chichester pub above)? I appreciate that in the way that Carp anglers jealously guard their 'secret pools', we may have some members who are reluctant to share details of their good gigs, but - in the weeks when your band isn't playing there, somebody else will be, and surely you would rather it's another BC'er than not? Or is it me? This also means that where we have an active 'good gig guide' thread, the word will get around immediately if anyone starts trying to stiff the band etc or the punters start taking a turn for the rougher/less numerous. Equally - from gig to gig - the band playing this time can be bigging up the next band, because they know how great they are - from BC! ie ; "We'll be back in 4 weeks, but make sure you come in next Saturday, because (insert name of band) are on and I can tell you, they're a great night out" etc It would also mean that a circuit of good gigs could be built where 'out of town' bands could be brought in, perhaps making up a nice little week long tour in a different part of the country for them - in venues they know will at the least be OK, and they'll get paid. Just a thought A .
25. I play in a working three piece band (sometimes as a two piece with drum back tracks) - but mainly as a three piece. We put everything through the front of house PA, even when in small venues. We find it is easier to get a more consistent and balanced sound that way. It also helps us to set the volume of the band how we want - louder or quieter. Anyway, for this purpose, we use a Samson MPL1502 mixer. It is very good, compact, enough XLR ins, rugged etc. But is doesn't have built in effects - so we need to connect an outboard reverb unit. We would also like a mixer which has built in effects and three aux outs - as we each would like a different monitor mix. Any recommendations would be good. Cost is not a primary consideration. We will pay what we have to do get a good number of XLR ins, at least 3 monitor outs and a compact and portable unit. At the lower end of the scale, I see there are two or three versions of the Behringer Xenyx 2222 models to consider (although they are slightly bigger that I would ideally like). At the more serious end I'm also really, really tempted by the Line 6 M20d. Anyone have any other suggestions for a suitable mixer?
