1. Is it possible to identify the actual model of a Fender bass from its serial number? I know there are plenty of resources which identify the model year of a bass from the serial number, but can you actually tell precisely what it is? For example, I contacted Warwick a while back and they asked for a picture of the headstock and serial number, a picture of the opened cavity and general pictures of the front and back of the body ........ then they sent me quite a detailed description of what it was. Can you do that with Fenders or do we have to rely on our collective knowledge on places like here?
2.
While the generic band poster with the blank space at the bottom is very cost effective, as a marketing tool it can loose it's effectiveness due to overexposure unless you use it solely at the venue itself, or you don't play the same town/city more than once every two months. In the days when the bands I was in produced their own posters we used to do a completely different one for every gig (although keeping within the band style). That way each poster was fresh and eye catching, and the posters never got tired through over-use. These days with the Terrortones most of the posters are done by the promoters of gigs that we play. In fact AFAICR the only poster we've produced ourselves was this one for our single launch gig:
I like this a lot. Well done.
3.
arrgh match your blacks! 100% K is not the right black!
Luke - you are right. I was aware of that - the printer said he's alter the file as necessary - and he didn't. But, in the flesh, on a pub wall, there's no real issue. Still happy though.
4. New gig posters for Daphne Don't Float. The QR_code gives the intended set list.
5.
If you want plug in and go hifi sound the only option is EBS hd350 with a ebs cab.
Bluff. As soon as you plug into an AER Amp One, you'll wonder why you've been plugging into anything else all these years.
6. Another attempt to say that it is us that are at fault, and not the amp? Maybe we're not clever enough to figure out how to use them? These Mark Bass likers must be more intelligent than me.
7. I wouldn't really describe that as a "skill" though.
8. Have you ever had the pickguard off? What's the routing like underneath? Does it extend beyond the third control knob to allow for another one? Is there a dedicated space for a PP3 battery? I know it's not an active bass, but I hear that some of the early Hot Rodded models had the above.
9. I'd take the RH450 COVER off you if you still have it? (edited as I missed out a crucial word there). If you still have it I'd have it off you.
10. I have a strange variant of GAS where a think I have a deficiency of black Fender basses. I must stop looking at them on here.
11.
Could be that the MB "cognoscenti" have enough experience with MB gear to give opinions, based on personal usage and not just preference or reading about it on web forums.
I don't mind opinions Dave, it's just that I have tried (I think) four different Mark Bass combos - all in rehearsal rooms - and have never liked one of them. I've played through countless types of amps in such places. I have my favourites and my non-favourites. For me, personally, I have never liked the sound out of Mark Bass combos. I just object to people telling me it's my ears or my bass at fault and that I have been so biased by other amps colouring my sound that I don't appreciate or understand the transparency of them.
12. Knew it wouldn't be long before the Mark Bass "cognicenti" came out to play on this thread and told us that it is not Mark Bass that don't sound great. Aparrently it is our ears and our bass guitars that are at fault. Better go buy a Mark Bass rig and some new ears then.
13.
That's £900! You'll need to be doing a LOT of small pubs to justify spending that much.
Yeah. But I suppose it depends on whether you are doing it for a living or if you're doing it as a hobby. I agree it's not particularly cost-effective. I'd suggest the vast majority of us on here don't earn a living from bass playing. You could "lose" about £4k per annum supporting your fave Premier League team home and away - or you could lose it in style, playing in a band.
14.
At the risk of sounding a bit dim, what kind of differences does a semi-hollow body make to the sound (other than I guess more acoustic volume)?
I can't say from 1st hand experience of basses ...... but I have a couple of solid Gibson guitars and a hollow Gibson (an SG, a Les Paul, and an ES335) they ALL have the same exact same pickups and hollow bodied ES has a sort of woodier thicker tone ....almost as if there is a miniscule amount of delay added. I guess if a bass did the same thing it would be wicked.
15. Is it possible to buy new Japanese Fenders? And if so, how would you go about it.
16. ..... or if they got rid of the frets I'd forgive it for not being a USA model.
17. I'm another one who's not a big fan of the pointy headstock.
18. Behind a mic stand, in front of a monitor, always stage left. Amp is sometimes way back, sometimes right behind me. Depends on the size of the stage (usually tiny). As I sing and need to be by the mic, I always DI and monitor though the front wedge - so backline volume is not important.
19.
ive seen these A E thinline P Basses before..in fretted and fretless. .ive seen a sunburst and even a flame maple one.. Made in Japan this one.. im not really a P Bass man but i bloody love these. big time.... what a beautiful instrument.....
I neeeeeed one of these. How do I get one?
20. The best Warwick is the Fortress One active.
21.
......unfortunately one of them is angaged .....
No one ever misses a slice from a cut loaf. Cool website though.
22.
You seriously want one of these for that.
In stock at Thomann I see. http://www.thomann.d...=sa-300&x=0&y=0
23. You seriously want one of these for that. Skip forward to 1 min 20 secs and you'll see how light, portable and easy to set up it is. Heaps of connections of all kinds. Feedback suppression, very powerful, really, really clear for vocals. They have been discontinued but you can pick 'em up second hand here and there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlK4-0qPzow
24. I don't like how they sound or how they look - but a lot of people on here do.
