Well, when you say "contrary to reports" ..... those reports appear as you don't see fit to keep people updated. People HAVE NOT been sticking with you, and you have some damage to repair. You have annoyed a lot of people. And when you say "as soon as I have anymore news, you'll be the first to know", that's exactly the opposite to how you've been operating before. Seeing will be believing in future.

The Advent of Punk - Good or Bad Thing?
The Dark Lord replied to Low End Bee's topic in Bass Guitars
A good thing. A very good thing. -
I pre-ordered the limited edition promo copy plus the CD and live CD and DVD package. It's a brilliant album. I keep changing my mind about the best track on it. JJ's rasping bass sound is right up there with the lead vocals in the front of the mix. This is what a bass player's bass player sounds like. Brilliant.

Wiring a P Bass without a tone control
The Dark Lord replied to Jono Bolton's topic in Repairs and Technical
Precisions played at "full bore" are cool -
I’ve got a 1999 Fender Precision with P / J pickups. I’d like to operate both the pickups (volume and tone) from just two knobs – as I like to have the Precision jack socket on top of the pickguard, both for aesthetic reasons ……. and the fact that I have a wireless device that won’t really work with the side jack. I’m quite happy to use push/pull pots – but I would like the knobs to look like regular knurled Precision knobs – not stacked ones. Anyone got any ideas how this could be achieved?

It suprises me that they (or possibly it's just that one guy so maybe just he) doesn't say something? I thought he might give some excuse, or some apology, or maybe a promise to publish something - but nothing. I mean has he replied to any of those who must be demanding their subscription money back?

Your favorite Jean-Jacques Burnel moments
For me it's the link between "Do you Wanna" & "Death And Night And Blood" Bit specific I know but it does it for me
Yep. In fact, to me, that's little bit there is the best bit of music ever recorded. -
What are you listening to right now?

A great day has dawned. The new Stranglers album "Giants" has arrived in the post and has been converted to iPod. Bass will be booming out of my car stereo for some time to come. -
Blur made some great songs, but that performance was very poor. Lead singer shouting instead of singing and Coxon adding in some extra bum notes here and there. The bass player and drummer were solid though. A disgrace to cut Adele short ...... and yes, they shoulf (a) Give that award back ( Stay disbanded and retire
Same here and my inbox is looking kinda empty
I looks to me like you can consider this a dead project. I'm glad I didn't subscribe. It was a good idea, but the content wasn't great and it made very limited and clumsy use of the media technology available. So no big loss.

How on earth do you pick a Fender Precision?
The Dark Lord replied to SebCarr's topic in Bass Guitars
Do you also walk straight past the real world on your way to the USA Standard models
Nope. USA Standard will do just fine. Will have "that" Precision sound which you can fake if you like, but only really comes out of a USA Standard P. If it's not set up right, then it can be fixed. Get your £1,000 or so out and welcome to the top table. -

The Dark Lord replied to SebCarr's topic in Bass Guitars
There's no problem here. Walk along the rack past all of these Squier and Mexican things until you get to the USA Standard models. Choose which colour you want, plug in and rock. There is no substitute. No other bass will do. -
Auditioning for a band tomorrow - any last minute advice?
The Dark Lord replied to TDM's topic in General Discussion
Remember. You're choosing them just as much as they're choosing you. You have to spend a lot of time and effort in a band. If they are not reasonable people - walk away. -
Well .... they haven't updated their Facebook page since mid-January and they tweeted regularly until 26th Jan .... and then that stopped abruptly. I would have though regular social media updates are essential for a publication ..... and now the 3rd Edition has gone missing. I definitely would have thought that it is essential for a publication to publish an err .... publication.
I just got two old jazz basses, one collected from mixed original vintage parts from 60s (including 62 neck and hardware) and the other - all original 78. I have owned a bunch of high end basses, not that I was about to collect them but I was always looking for the best possible sound and playability. My house was home for Foderas, Alembics, Sadowskys, MTDs, Pedullas, Nordstrands, Benaventes, Status etc. I even got a bunch of old Fenders (63 and 78P, 2x69, 78, 80s J) which I sold for different reasons. But now when I still have some 10+ basses I realized that there is no better instrument than an old jazz bass! Just changed the strings, made a nice setup for both of them and after playing against all my existing high end stuff I realized that I really don't need any other instrument than those two old jazz basses. What a situation?! After all these sleepless nights GASing for the ultimate bass, paying thousands of Euros for those noble instruments and all those envious faces around me - I just need these two old jazz basses?! Wow, what a great job you have done Leo! What about you?
Yup. If it's not Fender, there's no need.

iBass Magazine - I won't be buying it again !
The Dark Lord replied to The Dark Lord's topic in General Discussion
I didn't think any mod had done anything. I think that the OP in the iBass competition decided to silence me after I made IMHO relevant comments. But look, I don't care. Forums are for free speech and opinions. If iBass want to silence people whose opinions they don't like, then that's okay by me. If I said anything that bad, a mod would have dealt with it - but I didn't. Just thought others would want to know how they acted in this matter. -
why dont you email them, instead of airing your personal frustrations on BC...cant see anything positive coming from it
Well, they didn't email or PM me ...... and, as I purchased one of their editions, I'm what you call one of their customers. They just blocked me. Tells me all I need to know. -
Why? Well, it was okay, but could have been better given the media options available. However, when I criticised IMHO a rather lame "Bass Chat Competition" they rather hurriedly put on here, they blocked me from commenting again without even talking to me. Hey guys at iBass, if you don't want to here what I say, then I don't want to hear what you say. Don't go on forums if you can't handle critique.

How do I get JJ's tone on Nice 'n' Sleazy?
The Dark Lord replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
The Power Pop bass preset on you Line 6 Pod X3 Live device is a good starting point. We do 'No More Heroes' and I use that preset, with a touch of gain and a US Standard Precision on full bore. Close enough for me. It should be worth noting that JJ's sound on Black and White represented a fundamental change as, please someone correct me if I have this wrong, he had stopped using his famous green Precision bass with rosewood neck (where the trademark JJ sound came from) and had started using a black Precision with maple. So, in a way, even HE was copying the JJ sound by that time. I think the best representation of the original JJ sound is to be heard (although not very high in the mix) on the album version of 'Grip'. To me, the JJ sound that most Stranglers fans actually prefer is on Black and White - especially the changeover from 'Do Ya Wanna' to 'Death and Night and Blood'. -
