To be honest mate, sounds like the whole band is way too loud.
Word. Or are you playing to massive audiences on huuuuge stages? Even still, all of that's gonna spill out front and mess with the FOH mix.

Do I want to sell my Bergs and go Barefaced?
The Dark Lord replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
If you are asking the question, then the law of GAS says "yes" you must do it. -
...... although ..... wait a minute. This is a good idea. Other basschatters picking up products from people who refuse to ship and then shipping it on to the basschatter who purchased it. A sterling idea.
Yes I am But I wasn't in the band when he toured with the Stranglers. I recorded the last album, Grand Reveal, in 2012 and have been part of the band ever since.
Cool.

OMG. You are Mike Marlin's bass player. I came across him when he toured with The Stranglers. Seen him a couple of times. Good band and great albums.

MORE new Fenders - Vintage Hot Rod P & J
The Dark Lord replied to wateroftyne's topic in Bass Guitars
I think the bridges are non-string thru ..... which = disqualification in my book. -
Pino Palladino...once again...how sh*t hot is he?
The Dark Lord replied to merello's topic in General Discussion
She's a good player but not convinced by this.. you can see that her fingers aren't ready to deliver the Pino-vibrato at the end of the notes but the original track hides this problem.. Would like to hear it without the original bass so loud in the mix.
Isn't that a bit picky? Besides, you shouldn't play like anyone else, even when doing a cover. Give it your own signature. Girl done good I say. Good nonchalance too. -
Rosewood or Maple fretboard sound difference?
The Dark Lord replied to Mr Fretbuzz's topic in General Discussion
........ I don't think that there's enough between them that can't be sorted with a change of strings or an adjustment of your amp ......
I agree with this. I have both. I prefer the look of maple, but I think I prefer the sound of rosewood. But the difference is more in mojo than actual sound I think. -
Jazz bass with two precision pickups
The Dark Lord replied to Annoying Twit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I really ought to buy both of these as accessories for the dungeons in The Fortress of Ultimate Darkness. I'll try to resist. -
You need to get to a Bass Bash. There were a load of BF cabs of all generations at the SE one, including a new Big Twin, and that is a stunning sounding thing, and has enough headproom to knock down planets....
Yeah. That's a good idea.
I must confess that this is where I struggle. The argument goes that a smaller speaker can move the same amount of air as a larger one (if I understand it right) with the main difference being excursion. Ok, so if the area of a circle (I know it's not a flat circle) is Pi r2 so that is either 36Pi or 52.25Pi. To accomodate the difference the excursion is longer which means the speaker is travelling further and taking longer to do it (surely). I'm not disputing anything here - I haven't heard a BF cab as I have no access to any - but I'm a tad sceptical. I hope that's justification enough for some
See, this kinda stuff doesn't interest me. I decide if I like something by how it sounds when I play my amp through it. I would say that, in your average pub or club, as a cab, there is probably nothing better than a Barefaced Compact. Loud, deep, light - WIN. Perfect. There is no need for a 4 x 10 or an 8 x 10 etc in those situations. I really don't care about the technical aspects. It is easily loud enough, with headroom to spare, and sounds great. I think it really is that simple. PS: However, I do respect the fact that you are interested in such things, so please don't regard this post as derogatory in any way. Each to his own.

How does it sound? Is it Jazz or Precision like? Or does it sound (as I imagine it might) really quite different?

Interested in adding another Bose L1 to the band's arsenal and came across this? But, there may be some problems? http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1438.l2649 First of all, if you search for it using Bose L1 in the search bar, you don't find it. If you expand the listing to "Worldwide" then it does come up. The listing says it is "COVENTRY, West Midlands, United Kingdom" but when you click on the link provided if you want to ask questions, you get a form from a web page of a Steelworks company based in Mumbai. The grammar is not exactly in English. I guess I should give it a wide berth.

SOLD ! - Behringer B205d monitor 150W active monitor
The Dark Lord replied to The Dark Lord's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
-
One other point to note is that they are very popular on here - and are often (but not always) snapped up within minutes of being posted for sale on here ..... if you put the right price on it. So, if anyone is looking to try one, you can just buy a second hand one one, here or elsewhere, in the knowledge that you would be able to move it on quite easily if it turned out not to be for you.

I have a Compact, one of the first ones, which I bought from someone on here. It's very light and gives me a great sound with the Ashdown MiBass head that I use. Also much louder in use than many other cabinets I have used before. It's not THAT compact though - despite its name. They don't appear to be of the highest build quality (nothing like the quality of a TC Electronic for example) - but they're not bad, and I have been told that the later ones are of a higher build standard. I'd recommend them highly.

SOLD I'm selling my Behringer B205d monitor if anyone wants one. I used to have a very large wedge monitor - which was difficult to lug about and took up space in the car. I switched to one of these little beauties earlier in the year - brilliant piece of kit. No more big monitor to carry, fits easily into the car. It fits on a mic stand (using the adapter that comes with it - which I will also supply. I'll also provide the improvised carry case / cover that I have (a converted small holdall). Not really looking for trades - want the cash to go towards some other gear ...... not unless you have a Bose L1, B1 or B2 that you want to get rid of. You can see some more info on them (including a video of them in action) in the following post: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2141796

Dropping the price again (now £350 delivered in the UK). A good number of enquiries, but nobody has taken the plunge. Will be placing it on ebay this time next week. This one comes with two pickguards (a new black one fitted, the original cream will be included in the case). It has a set of flats fitted and will come with a spare set of roundwounds. It has the original volume and tone knobs fitted, but will also include a spare set of black knobs. Be quick if you want it!
Grainy, like vinyl
Yep. Well said.

I've always found active basses have too clean and clinical a tone for the stuff that I like to do. I prefer a more raw vintage sound.

If you ask me, anything by the great, all-conquering Fender is good, but this is something different. May need to get one for our "semi-acoustic" sets. How decent of them to include a black one.
