1. Well Chris if you'll buy it you can play it all the time it's even better then trying;) Thanks buddy;)
2.
After the MTD , the Tobias...Brams , what are you doing crazy man !!!!!
Hi Etienne well iTS to fund another Tobias... But crazy.. Yes;)
3.
The tone may be comparable with a MTD...but it is MUCH more desirable. Wow.
34" it is;)
4. Up for sale, a beautiful Signature 5 7 piece neck with walnut purple heart wenge body is goncalo alves back and top with a walnut core The fretboard is a type of rosewood Madagascar or flatsawn wenge.. I really cant tell... Bartolini pickups and 3 band preamp with mid selector switch.. This bass is a bit controversial as it's has serial 2044 which should be the last serial made in Burbank CA by Mike Tobias and crew. I informed Mike about this bass he stated the last bass was a Basic 5 that came out of his shop and not a Signature 5. So apparently there are two Tobias basses with the serial 2044. I showed him pictures of the instrument over the mail a while ago he did notice the carving on the body was recognisable as Burbank era, as do the bridge and pickups. Conclusion it was misnumbered by one of his employees or was numbered by someone from Gibson as they shipped all unfinnished goods to Nashville after Gibson closed the shop in Burbank. Anyway the wood and workmanship were done in Burbank, he insured me that much... This bass belonged to the Canadian bassist late Andrew Lusher, he put on a hipshot a style bridge which I reverted back to the original Wilkinson type of bridge so it looks the way it was when it was originally shipped to it's first owner. Very very nice playing instrument great allround tone, comparable to an MTD which I also owned but a little more alround and less upfront. I'm only selling this baby co's I have an eye on a similar 6 string Tobias... So this will be a temporary sale if the option closes I'll pull this add. This is a very special bass.
5. Thanks Chris! The bass has been sold!
6. On hold
7. Due to the fact I scored myself a tobias signature 5 recently, and the fact a tobias and an mtd share some common type of sound I have decided to let go on one of them, sadly... It has taken 3 months to decide which one I should keep, both are basses you pickup up and cant stop playing. Anyways the specs are solid ash body with matching trussrod cover and headstock maple neck and maple board. The tuners and bridge are new and ordered directly from Mike himself. Don't be fooled eventho this bass hasn't a coffee table top it is one of the better sounding mtd's ive heard with a really sick low b string lots of character, nothing not to like. 35' scale 19mm bridge spacing mtd specific Bart pickups and preamp vol bal treble mid bass and 3 way mid selector switch Hipshot hardware. The bass is from 2006 and judging from the wear on the bass it was gigged/played alot, but then ive priced it accordingly. Pics/clip will follow Pretty bad pics with flash i also attached the original pics from the former owner in daylight, still the color is much more red then it is on pics.. you can also see I changed all the hardware and knobs...
8. I know quite a bit about these basses this is without a doubt a pre Gibson tobias that Mike and a small crew built in California. These are highly regarded and sought after basses one of the first true beautique basses on the planet. With this for sale price it's really a steal to be honest! Have a bump!
9. Again congrats on your little girl!! I love to make an offer to, but I'm affraid a full maple body wont give me what I need. I own an mtd 535 myself iTS an ash body plus maple/maple neck and I need something like that but a bit warmer deeper Less agressive as the mtd can be a bit much, altho there is nothing else that is more impressive then those basses they rip In rnb and gospel there isn't anything that comes close... Anyways GLWTS Take care, Bram
10. Sounds very decent to me, just hoped it would be a little warmer... As always a great sounding bass these old tobiasses!
11. Aaarghhh why is this bass staring at me the whole time... Make it stop! What a bargain really!
12. Do you by any chance have a recording of ths bass? I would love to hear it...
13. If that means you don't like fender type string spacing.. Altho the 6er are 18mm instead of 19mm. These do not feel like a tobias at all... 35' scale doesnt help either... I'm sure someone in you country will definitly own one, maybe you can ask them for a test drive;) I'm in the Netherlands so thats not very close at all... I definitly would like to try a pre gib tobias.. Just to know how they feel... Regards, Bram
14. I can record you a small clip... If you like... These are one of the nicest mtd's ive heard all of them feature ash bodies and maple/rosewood necks... http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=plpp&v=ixWpYDDU-wc http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=plpp&v=1JlVU_y9sso http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=plpp&v=WYv_WnSYWAQ
15. I would love to own a pre Gibson tobias... The only thing concerning me is the tight spacing on those... I recently have bought an mtd 535 it's a truely sick bass (thunderous low b a gospel monster bass) ive heard clips of these tobias basses, the sound is actually pretty similar to an mtd, the biggest difference in tone is prolly found in the Bart electronics and the fact that they are constructed differently... But as I said suprisingly they sound pretty close. By the way Arnoldo has a really stunning 635 up for sale, if your after a 6er.
16. Well... The hell he did.... both have the skunk stripe.. hows that!
