How to set up a bass. http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&sour...G=Google+Search
I'm going to go out on a whim here, half of those results will be crap... As someone who loves Google, I'd prefer not to trust every result that comes up from that search with items of great value... -

Burrito is the book you mentioned generally transferable to other basses (with a bit of common sense and know how) or should a more general book be acquired for non fender set ups (sounds like I believe fenders are different to other basses, but thought I'd ask) -
The photos are the least of my problems with that ad- the typography, on the other hand, is almost unreadable.
A man with his priorities right

Been working my way through a bass book, got some scales sorted etc. but trying not to teach myself too much as I'll be getting lessons soon and bad habits are harder to lose than learn
-
Thanks for the reply, I seem to have found someone that I'll be contacting to make sure they are available when I arrive in Bristol

second vote for studybass.com , got to spend time and look at some of the info on here too, I'm spending time learning from http://www.amazon.co.uk/Learn-Play-Bass-Co...l/dp/1864692634 and it seems to be doing alot of good (in my opinion) now learning theory, how and why I'm playing what I am, and (something you don't need) but the method to play...

Exactly, bring back the time of gentlemen and the such

I would love for hats to be in fashion for people my age without them trying too hard (which the case seems to be) Bad times
-
I'd go for a tascam mp3 thingy-ma-bob (technical term) And the spare money on strings or drinks depending on which I feel like most at the time

The crushable wool diamond pork pie is the best hat on there ;P

21 years young indeed ^_^ Apologies, I think it was just the explanation of what you did rather than what you felt that made it seem a bit like a petulant child Granted he was in the wrong to be a bit of an arse
Next time you look at a bass tab or learn a song by ear from a record, try to figure out what the chords are (or look at a guitar tab) and - again - see if you can see why the bass player is playing the notes he/she's playing and how they relate to the chords. This will help you create appropriate bass parts of your own.
Any sites with comparable (one on top of the other) guitar and bass parts? Seems like a good little exercise
-
Play root notes and then expand on that... (essentially what Thom said)

Really confused as to why this was something worth sharing, half expected a teenager to be posting it, but the profile seems to say otherwise

Lets hope I can come to this stage sooner rather than later, from the consensus it would seem the logical route is to find my favourite fender, buy a few more, realise the fender was what I wanted, and use it.
I have invested quite a lot of time emulating Billy Sheehan's three finger technique, but my aim was never to sound like him; it seemed the most logical way to get up to the speed I needed to be at to play the music I play. It was definitely good for me in the long run, as I can now play at high speed for extended periods when required. Nowadays I try to pick and choose elements from a variety of other peoples' playing that I like, rather than going for one specific sound.
Like leebass before me said, this sums up what I hope I can do regarding my learning, taking things I get inspiration from and investing my time in learning all I can from it. No point reinventing the wheel, much more productive to develop the one already their

Ahh cool cool thanks for the offer - may indeed take you up on it, hope the jobless bit doesn't last for long (unless that's what you want of course)
