1.
Well, I'm hurt now. I actually have an 1x18 in my rig like this one: http://www.musiciansnews.com/ha/hartke/har..._speakers.shtml Only a 2 x 10 to go with it. I look forward to opportunities to use it, only had two so far. Yep, weighs a ton but it tips back onto wheels with a handle and so is actually easy to move (but not lift - but then the other guys in the band love it so they don't mind helping!). Fact is, the sound is totally monsterous. The amp volume control needs halving as it is incredibly loud and really shakes the ground, really does. Clarity? No, more clear without. Deep bass? Yes, in ship loads. Once you get used to it using just 'normal' cabs is a bit boring and empty without that deeeep punch. Needs a lot of care to get the tone sorted so you don't lose definition, totally changes your regular settings and getting the opportunity to play around with tone isn't easy. Regarding clarity, I suppose you could say that it gives you an enormous, earth shaking bass with ease and without distortion but it doesn't ADD to clarity, without care it can muddy things up. But, goodness me, its fun! (ps I understand what people say about a speaker size not having a particular sound, this may be true although in this case the cab has a huge volume hence its performance)
I'm not hear to offend. If you read the original post. It's in relation to the BS said in the video.. If you're happy with you're 1x18, good for you. My setup is super light because I gig sometimes 3 times a week and sometimes even use public transport and light rig is just common sense, I can get alot of volume low 'thunder and punch' these days with great sound modern or vintage with growing a tail Video referred to the 'only option of a suitable bass rig is a 4x10 and a 1x18'????? Then again, you never know what i'm gonna do :-)
 2. I started on a four then went to a five because the guy who I borrow his bass from bought fives. When I bought my first bass it was a four, because I found I was using the B string far too much.. Now I have fours, but occasionally borrow a friends five for some gigs and have no problem switching. I like the balance of tone between the fours, but the fives are great for some styles. I hadn't used a five in 2 years and went straight on it for the gig. It's practice and alot to do with confidence. I've got my eye on a MM 5, but my wallet says otherwise :-( I think the key is to practice.. it's like walking. But if you haven't played one before force yourself to play all the songs you play in your current gig on the five and practice at home, when you’re comfortable, or the gig is not ubber important switch to the 5 and stay on the 5 till you're comfortable. Usually 2months of playing will be enough also try some exercises.. I'm sure doddy and bilbo will have some exercises for you to try ;-) Just don't stop playing with it ;-).
 3.
That one is no good! It only comes with two 10" speakers! We all know you need four of them to pair with the 18" for a good sounding bass thunder!
It's actually hilarious that the handling is only 200w and 400w peak... It's the extra 2x10 missing..
 4.
I've used Spectraflex for years and never had the slightest problem. They are the best cables I've used. I reckon I know what the majority of posts will say though
I guess the reason people say OBBM is because: They are great They are well priced and also all of bassist here use them and OBBM is a Bc'er - I'd rather by from BC than just a random shop I haven't got OBBM yet, but to be honest, if I hadn't had mine made by some guys I work with at Air and Abbey Road, I'd would have got OBBM. Also mine free :-) I also reckon there must be at least 30 threads asking about cables to buy ;-)
 5. correct me if i'm wrong. This an audition to play in a festival that they charge £58 and £33 for day tickets to the punters and the band get F*ck all. I have two words for that :-)
 6. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Peavey-Bass-Cab-1-x1...5#ht_500wt_1156 :-)
 7.
Yes, it was immaculate, and I only bought it Oct 30 last year, so still less than 6 months old. Blimey Clarky, you do like to shift your gear about (he says having bought & sold full Ampeg rig since then).
That's some serious GAS!!
 8.
Thanks - will have a think over it. I take the head (Little Rocker 500) to rehearsal every week. At other times it could stay sat on the cab. Only really need to screw it in if I take the 'combo' out to a gig. Even then, maybe doesn't need to get screwed in as it's in a vertical position anyway. also looking at a pair of purple chili cabs so need to think it over.
Hmm, you'll get quite a different sound with these two options.. The markbass cab with have the more MB tone with a bit of tube.. the chillis will alos work, but I think it'll be be more gritty.. If you get a chance try both..
 9.
if the pedal is off (true bypass) the sound is good ... so the defect (noise, cracks,...) is in the pedal...
+1
 10.
HI basschat I just received a 2nd handed bass micro synth from EHX (2months old) When i first tried it, I hear like a strange noise, like my jack output is not good anymore or something. It's very loud that it's even higher in sound level then the synth sound. I changed cable, powersupply, amp and bass but the irritating noise is still there. It just runs with the supplied power supply, so not daisy chained. I made a sample, dont mind the bad notes/timing, but I just played it to give you the idea of the noise I used a preset of EHX itself, so I don't do anything stupid with the settings. http://users.telenet.be/novaworks/ehx.mp3 btw I now there is like a trimpot inside that sets the gain, but that doesn't affect that much... thoughts? give thanks
hmm have you adjusted all the dials all off except one, then gradually bring the dial up on individually. You might be able to isolate.. but it does sound like something is not quite right.. I have had mine for years and it's doesn't do that.. Try a different lead and a different amp and bass if possible, because is almost seems like it's not the pedal..
 11.
Just to be awkward and offer an alternative opinion here I actually sought out and bought an 18" cabinet a few months ago (Trace Elliot) as nothing came close to the sound I heard (and felt) when I hired one at a rehearsal studio. I love it. Weighs a ton, do I care? No? Is it 'fashionable?' No. Will people point and stare? I doubt it. Well, not unless they are Basschatters. But it makes the walls rumble and for my good old fashioned heavy rock covers band it is just the ticket. And I am 53 with a bad back - not because of this new cab, I hasten to add.
Good for you.. I'd have an 8x10 on my gigs if I could deal with the stress. But after using those light cabs day in day out.. it's a no brainier for me..
 12.
It sounds to me as if what he is talking about is providing a bass set-up for a rehearsal studio, rather than a rig for an individual. His comments about not knowing what bassists are gonna do almost makes sense then. Hired gear tends to get a pretty hard time, so I guess having the 18 gives a slightly more 'robust' rig in case of detuned metal mania... particularly if you are only going to but cheap to mid-range speaker cabinets (as shown in the choice of the Ashdown MAG410). So maybe he is only talking partial garbage?
The MAG 410 would be fine even with the MAG amp up full.. Rehearsal studios gear are another beef of mine.. It's simple, check the gear before and after rehearsal and any damages will be paid for by the band... People who abuse gear will soon learn.. It's funny in the top rehearsal places the gear is always fine
 13.
I've been in my covers band for nearly 7 years.....what's wrong with me? Lol Si
That sounds like a relationship.. My longest relationship is now 2 1/2years and counting, but it works as we don't see each other every week :-)
 14. '18 for clarity' I must remember that..
 15.
I have a set of the moulded plugs but find that I very rarely use them - when I put them in they seem to take out all of the top end frequencies and massively boost all of the bass frequencies so all that I can really here is myself which is not a good thing if you are really trying to get into the music that you are making! Not sure where I am going wrong as others really rate moulded plugs??
What filters are you using? Also it takes a while for your ears to adjust to the sound you get through on moulded plugs.. For pop/ and moderate levels, I use 15's on the loud stuff, I use the 25's Yes, there are expensive, but I have been using mine for about 6 years and they are still fine..
 16.
Are you prepared to courier / post this cab ? I know the thread mentions any same size mark head will fit in the slot but does the top cover have to come off ? Ideally, i'd like to pull the head out on a regular basis when taking the amp to rehearsal where there's already a MB cab
If you would like to organise a courier, I can post it On the amp front. There should be more than enough space for it to fit in the slot, as the mental panel on the top of the LM's are thin. When I had the amp in the cab/combo, it was held in by two screws, but I sold that with the amp head as I put a piece of wood on the head to protect it. I don't know if there are holes in the top of the LM2 head for that, but you could easy take off the top and drill some holes for it as the same size. If I was you, I'd either screw it in and leave it there or get the Markbass gig bag or other case and put it on top of the cab (which is what I did till I traded it). I'm not sure taking it in and out of the cab would work as you'd need to keep screwing it in and our each time might be a pain unless you can get some form of quick release screws. I guess this depends how much you intend taking the head out.
 17.
Hi I'm interested in the cab u have. Where are u based. Pete
I'm based in London, Greenwich but work a lot nr notting hill/ladbrooke grove, so I can meet anywhere between there.. lynxus69 - I'm not sure about the GK rig. It's nice, but a bit heavy. I'll let you know, if I change my mind, but your LM250 would fit right in
 18.
Isn't it what they make replacement hip joints out of for the poor suckers who buy 1x18s to go with their 4x10s..?
someone with a speaker fetish and also who is deaf.. Be careful I just might buy one, you'll never know what I'll do
 19. I haven't had the chance to check each earthing wire yet.. I'm really busy with the working bass and some gigs on drums, so I might not get anything else done on it till next week My friend mentioned, I should use as little solder as possible and I think he's right.. - tone and socket control - Neck, bridge & tone - bridge, tone & socket - neck & bridge - The lot
 20.
It must have been '73 through to '76 I had a ephing great Orange 2 x 18 & 2 Hiwatts on top. Trouser/flares flapping No wonder my bones ache
Bloody hell, that must have rock old skool.. ;-) I'm pretty the guy on the vid hasn't heard of the word neodymium
 21. It must be those 6 string basses. I can't buy one unless I have an unbranded 1x18. Their cymbal advice is awful too. He's never played drums either
 22. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4uKRhVUbh4...mp;feature=fvwp I couldn't believe this tripe!! 'todays bass player, you never know what they're gonna do'
 23.
It is 250w. Cheers Alex
Of pure EBS goodness
 24.
As per the title, I have my EBS Neoline 110 for trade. I'll be rehearsing and gigging soon and I can't be bothered to lug around my Torque 4x10's to get sufficient volume and clarity. I just wish I could afford another EBS Neoline 110! Great cab for the size, even reproduces the low B faithfully. Everything you'd expect from an EBS cab. Carpeted and in mint condition, I'm the second owner I believe and I've only ever used it for bedroom practice. It's never been cranked up. I value it at around £200 and for the right cab, I may chuck in some extra money to make the deal more satisfactory. I'm looking for a good standard cab. Brands I'm interested in include Aguilar, Orange, Ampeg, GK, Ashdown (specifically the ones with the red face) and EBS; but don't be afraid to weigh in with some offers. I'm in St. Albans and I don't mind driving to meet. Cheers Alex
I wish, that was the 12 and I'd have that in a flash...
