I sent a couple of emails enquiries year, but no response.
I'll be honest, all the music shops I know that are great on the CS in person and on the phone are usually awful on the email. I've no problem there. If I'm buying new or local, they are my 1st choice. They know their stuff and leave to fine what YOU want. Good bass servicing there also
 2.
good call on the no volume, all amps should be on full by default
imagine if that's a 200w amp in a small club... :-)
 3.
Also now for sale.
piccys please
 4.
I'm guessing that the preamp uses 12ax7s, (haven't looked at the amp so don't know for certain) so 12at7s, 12au7s would lower your gain.
Mine are the 12ax7's.. what's the difference between the 12at7s and the 12au7s? Sorry to go off on a tangent
 5.
An electric shock booby trapped force field for when the guitarist/bassist of the other band on the bill decide to rest their full pint on it.
+1000
 6.
What?? IF it is illigal in this case (and I know there are exemptions, this may or may not be one of them) then that's highly relevant. You cannot discriminate on age when employing someone. Same with race, or sex. No ifs, no buts. You can argue all you like about "they need to fit in", and I agree fully. Image matters in this case. However, you simply cannot legally state an age range any more than you could state "white male needed". Argue all you like on how sensible the law is. the fact it's there makes it relevant.
I meant stating that this is illegal is irrelevant in this case.. it's an unsigned band, we're all intelligent enough to read this post in a reasonable way and my point was they were just stating a framework. The age thing in this ad has turned into a 'PC' issue based on the wording 'Male between 20 and 27 years old' we all can read between the lines.. well I though people could.. you can't compare that to race.. and pulling extremes, if that's the case, then all girl or boy bands are illegal I guess.. also It's not a job. They're not signed.
 7.
My input on this would be don`t make the gain too full-on. The Orange Terror for example is a great amp, but on anything more than 3 on the gain, it was, well very "gainy". I can`t imagine what it would have been like on 10. I`d like an amp to be breaking up at about 5 on the gain.
I've heard you can change the valves, I was thinking of doing the same with my terror. I can't remember the name of the alternatives. I'm worried it won't sound as good though
 8. Simple - gain, bass, mid, treble, passive active input as light a possible as small as possible 8/4/2ohm all at 200w or even 150 DI in the rear that is post pre Technically the AD200mk3 but lighter, and with DI

 10.
Just goes to show how different opinions can be. Having been one of the naysayers of this ad I still stand by mine, which is that the original ad had more than the faintest whiff of BS, and yes, fair play to the band being out there and doing there thing but using the lawyers and management angle imo was just a ruse to make themselves look more credible, and once again, to me, it failed. The original criticisms were all quite mild, esp by intenet standards! Furthemore, it is illegal to age discriminate. All those that are defending this, what will you defend next - racism as your skin colour doesn't fit the all so important image? Finally, the band have benefited from "there's no such thing as bad publicity" as a couple of days later this, again my opinion, far better written ad has yet to have a reply: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=115251
Wow, I actually can't believe I'm reading this. Stating it's illegal is simply irrelevant and far from the point of the add. A 7year old or a 70 year old wouldn’t look right in this band, that's just common sense. When signed bands are looking for a replacement band member they go for some who can play well and looks like the image of the band. Why not with unsigned bands? Your response tells me that either a) You don't work or have never work in the pop industry. It's been stated what they are looking for and granted like all brands we make things sound as good as it can be and sometimes over inflate claims, like all bands, brands, salesmen and companies do. you've never held auditions. They will not choose you if don't have the look or style of the band that has already been established, because it's a pop band and that's how they work. Also there is nothing worse that wasting days on end holding auditions, listening to players that don't fit the requirements for band. Also younger bands usually have a different focus and don't mind not having stability, more partying etc and might gig for less, these broad assumptions are usual true and there are usually only a few exceptions to this rule. I did it when I was younger. c) you're slightly bitter that you're not working in the industry. Wish is sad. I do some work in this arena and I get called for many reasons; my age, my look or even race and sometimes my playing, if I'm lucky. I'm not keen on the pop industry and I sometimes hate it as we all get pigeon-holed. But sometimes it works for me other times it doesn't, but I like you I a choice that is to get involved or do something else and start your own band. This band have been clear about what they want and if everyone is honest it's if someone should join the best fit would be some close to their age, if you're slightly older and young, i'm pretty sure they wouldn't care, as long as you FIT in.. Let's leave these guys alone and let them find their bassist, it pretty clear most of the haters of this band wouldn’t get the job anyway..
 11.
Would you buy a Bass from that man? Looks like a dodgy estate agent .
I wonder what the MD of Ampeg or Aguilar look and sound like then. Still I guess they usually don't play them
 12.
I take it he's a guitar player trying to play bass? Thats horrible.
I still can't believe it. What is he playing? Yep a bad guitarist playing bass even worse
love the geezer with the beard looking more and more awkward lol!
If he wasn't on camera, someone would have turned him off
 13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rjar21N8-iQ...feature=related It reminds me of my dad's playing :-), he doesn't play anymore or a young toddler I love orange and to be honest, if I hadn't heard this gear before, I'd be put off. I had to watch it twice
 14.
before you think people are jumping down your throat, think of basschat as a chat about basses in a pub. Now if you strike up converations you'll find there is a lot of gear being shifted around. But the pub exists for the beer..... it normally takes a bit of time and effort to sell or buy stuff. not hassle, but the banter and stuff you would go through in the pub
+1
 15.
I've noticed that the left cheek on my right hand tends to mute for me.....other than that it varies.... index finger on left hand also handles a lot of muting
+1, I actually found my self doing it, it sounded great so I use it when I need it now. When you mute with your finger each finger sounds different, including the left (thigh bit, if that be such a part) of your thumb. If I mute with my thumb, I pluck with the thumb also, if I mute with my fingers (middle or ring), I use my index and middle finger to play.
 16.
Two for me. One was from a Cardiff sax/flute/guitar/drums player called Lee Goodall (and, yes, he excelled at all of them - I think flute was his first instrument and he is priimarily known as a sax player) who, when drumming in a Quartet I was playing with, explained to me the concept of playing ahead of, on, and behind the beat. Lee used to live in New York and has played with Will Lee and Anthony Jackson (playing with me must have been such a come down!!).
This was one of the biggest things that changed my playing on drums. I got these pearls of wisdom from a drummer named Russ Miller. I later tried this on bass and it did the same. It's important to understand what you playing does to your other band members aswell. If you all play behind or in front or on it, it usually can feel weird, but if you can control where in the time you play you can have more control of the music. I also have learnt that playing the simple thing very very well is far more effective than playing lots of mediocre notes often. I think it's sometimes an age thing, but if you nail playing a simple pulse on an open string, you have far more musicians calling you back for gigs than a jaco wannabe.. Space, feel is the key as well.
 17.
That really surprises me as if you look on a scope at output of the EBS HD and TD amps with the character switch not engaged, you'll see a flat responding amp right up to the ultra highs (where a lot of bass amps don't go) with a shelving in the sub bass area (why bother using your power to amplify those sub frequencies that you can't hear and really punish your speakers?). The combination of EBS amps and speakers can be a bit too much for some... but thats why there is a brightness control on the amps and a tweeter control on the cabs to tame the glassiness. The treble response due to those tweeters are like not much else on the market... they really pop those highs.
On paper, you're right about the amps, but ears say no. I had real play around with them as I had a few days to play around with it in a live setting, as I was determined to try and get on with the amp, but to no avail. I agree the tweeters on the cabs are so sweet and there is so much scope and tonal range in these cabs. I think my issue is it all becomes a bit to Modern-HiFi for me with the amp. I'm tastes have become more warm, and even my modern sound has a warmthness to it. I'd love to try the tube amps, I think I get on with those.
 18.
Nobody ever says why? What exactly is it that you don't like? The price?!
Nothing to with price really. I think there are other amps that seem to display the wonderful tonal spectrum of the cab far better than EBS amps for the same price or less. Mind you, I haven't tried the tube amps enough to comment, but the amp I am mainly referring to are the HD series (HD350) and others from this generation. I've tried them on gigs and rehearsals and I have resorted back to my Markbass LM2, when I had it, on many occasions with the cabs. EBS have great modern sounds with lots of meat in the highs, mids and lows, but those amps IMHO make the cabs sound a bit glassey and too HI-FI and almost fake. I think the love for amps are different to the love for the cabs. Your comments on the cab have reinforced my thoughts and experience on the Proline cabs, I miss my 2x10 :-(, I'm thinking about a proline 2x12 at the mo :-)
 19. I'm interested too. The proline is great. I'm not as keen on their amps though. The 2x10 is so nice. Great for all styles...
 20.
taking what? yourself to the chiropractor i think!
Opps typo.. I meant talking.. But I think the back problem would be the issue. All this gear is really tour or studio gear really IMHO
 21. I think point of adding a 1x15 to a 8x10 is like someone a helping a bodybuider carry a paperclip. If you had a 4x15, then you might be taking :-)
 22.
Yeah, its the one thing about the LM2 that i am dissapointed with. I am pretty careful to make sure that the gain isn't clipping and get a lovely sound (one i like anyway) through the cabs but get frustrated when the front of house gets added. That said, i have also been in other venues and the sound is great. Its the inconsistency that bugs me.
If you only had a problem at one or two venues and all the others venues were fine. It's the venue, not your gear. I had an interference problem with my amp, then worked out that it was their rubbish desk and not my gear at all. I took my amp home tried it DI's on 5 desks then and some cheap mixers and it was fine. The wiring in some venues are awful, at that to a bad sound guy and you have recipe for disaster. I find the more you know about your gear, the better so the sound check and gig. If you have any friends with recording gear or even a mixer try it their and compare it to another amp's DI. If it doesn't work a in-line attenuator will help. I always expect it's gonna sound rubbish, then if it does, i'm not upset, anything better is a bonus.
 23.
Bass -> Sadowsky: XLR out -> mixer Jack out -> bass amp
+1 this is the best way if the DI is hot. I'm very surprised that the DI on your MB is hi. I had a LM and it was fine. I recorded with it many times. Is your gain very high or the output of your bass, maybe reduce the gain a touch and you should be fine? If you have a little mixer at home you could compare the level you get from the Sadowsky and the LM. I have a sansamp when I don't have my amp head, which isn't often now as my new amp head is smaller. But I know I can get a good level to the front of house and and to my amp and get my sound every time.
 24.
I beleive it is now illegal practice to stipulate age/gender limitations in employment ads.Surely they would have ran this by the solicitors before posting here.
In terms of a band, and the music industry.. let's be honest, that is BS!.. People are judged. Sometimes it benefits you, other times it doesn't. It's not a job in a county council
 25. For me effects on bass is like a man choosing the right shoes for the weather.. You generally wear the same shoes day in and out, but when it rains, snows or it too hot for shoes, you might change your footware, but generally the same shoes, usually can fit the bill. I generally don't use any effects, but I don't mind playing around with sounds if the band really needs it, and I really enjoy it. I bought a few pedals for a heavy rock alternative band and the Mirco synth and the big muff with my sansamp worked a treat as the band loved big soundscapes, I used it sparingly and only for some songs and certain parts. I always say to myself first 'does it REALLY need effects?'.. most of the time, the answer is no. I think bassist have to be careful they don't turn into guitarists or keyboard players, the low frequencies are very important to the music
