I don't think either of those are NSFW. No nipple - No problem
In my last office job, that would be enough to get private word from my boss
Avatar choices are a user's prerogative, except if they breach the T&Cs. It may be that we need to clarify this - I will discuss it with the other mods. I think you can't really browse any public content generated website and guarantee avoiding NSFW content.
I understand what you mean, but If I'm just having peak on BC and the Chair Trustee who I do some work sees one of those images 'at a glance', it doesn't look good.. I know if you worked in the council and certain managers saw that.. it would be banned like facebook, as some workers are public facing. BC is great and it would be good if office bods can keep using it at work
A good friend of mine actually played better when he was baked. I think it made him calm down and lock to the click better. Infact, I watched him record several songs, start to finish just to a click, no band and they were 'pro level single takes'. What a git!
A good drumming friend of mine is the same
Have to disagree with you there. Earlier this year I had both as I was looking for a lightweight replacement for the AD200B. Sadly the BT did not measure up to the job. It was far too aggressive and even with some valve swaps did not sound like the AD200B. The BT500 went and the AD200B stayed. I am now taking weight lifting classes.
I have the Terror and I use it in a groove based band and a rock band.. and I always get complemented on the smooth tone aswell and when I turn up the gain.. and I still have alots of headroom clean, but it's all about the AD200 (the big daddy), if you can handle the weight.. I'm definitely getting the AD200 for the special gigs :-).. The terror is the gigging musicians choice for weight. The AD is warm or gritty.. full stop
Most of the preamps mentioned above are 'rack units' though. So I wouldn't necessarily call them little. The VF-1 is a lovely little half rack, so I think that's a good example. How about the EBS MicroBass II and the Sansamp ParaDriver. Both are pedal sized preamps and are both brilliant! - Infact I like the fact that they are 'dual purpose' - sling them in your pedal board - or use as a full preamp!
+1
That's why it would be a shame to have to resort to the lofi site or turn avatars off. I'm not trying to be a dick about this, but apart from the inconvenience, I think it's hypocritical to moderate sexist posts and state that sexist topics should be avoided, then allow people to post topless pics as their avatar... Can I post a frame of a Jenna Jameson XXX movie as my avatar, or is that taking it too far? Where's the line?
+1

You can't beat an all valve head... I'm afraid!
algmusic replied to dave74200's topic in Amps and Cabs
This has been the funniest thread.. First of all.. It's horses for courses, but then it's practically. I love the old Ampeg all valve with 8x10, but I could not take that on the tube with my London gigs/sessions.. The markbass, shuttles with sansamp, mxr all have their place My Terror Bass and 2x10 cab is great for my needs.. tube pre, but won't break my back .. 3 gigs a week with a full valve rig .. unless, i'm on Tour and someone else is carrying it... I do agree, you can't go from a SVT to an Ashdown ABM and say that solid state amp are not good.. that's a big step down -
I like their feedback rating.. Zero :-)
I agree, I mean my boss can't see my computer so it doesn't matter but I do find it a bit sad TBH.
How can you view without avatars? I think it should be raised.. I do some work for charity and it wouldn't look good.. Where are the global moderators :-)

Ahhh jazzers.. It's funny.. I used to do a fair bit of jazz. I hardy do any now and I think the who jazz volume thing can be a illusive. I've been to some jazz gigs that were much louder than rock ones.. I love both genres.. I think sometimes, the ears handle more, if they like the music :-)

I love that song it's muted notes Db Db Eb Eb Eb Bb Bb Ab It's chord thing (suspended or diminished).. I'm not a really keys, but i'm sure someone can explain it.

As a Drummer and Bassist who works alot on both I see and hear this alot... You have two choices really stay and buy ear plugs, if you like the band (i use custom moulds, with 15's or 25 filters) or leave the band If you're close as musical friends then maybe there will be room for discussion, but before you make suggestions, thick about how you might feel if the drummer told you how to play or what strings to use or whether to use a pick, or what amp.. In most cases, I've realised, some people change as time goes on and others don't.. It annoys me a when I hear people criticise another musician on an instrument that they don't play.. if you change the sticks or kit you use and the way you hit the drums it's no different from changing from an 62 p-bass to a warwick or a markbass to a marshall or flats to rounds.. That said a great bassist can tame and mental drummer.. :-)
Hi Tom, Just listening to your MySpace tunes! I think the Compact is the way to go, as it'll give you more of that big ska bottom with your 500W than the Midget can (doubling the enclosure size gets you another 3dB in the lows, like having twice as much power). The onus will be on your to keep control of those lows by how you play (muting particularly) but if you really do find the Terror/Compact pairing too big in the lows then we can swap it for the Midget. I don't think you will though. Btw, if that's you playing on the MySpace recordings then I think you need to update your sub-avatar quote unless Gloucester is a hotbed of bass talent! Not sure if you'll be able to get as much grind from the Terror as on your first clip, partly that depends on how hard you can drive the front end which in turn depends on how loud your basses are and how hard you tend to play. Also a lot of that is from his pick attack - tone is indeed in the hands (and what they're up to) But you can always add a boost or overdrive pedal out front, and picks are cheap! Best regards, Alex P.S. Regarding the SP210 suggestion, it can only handle 600W thermally, it'll be excursion limited to less than half that. And because it's an isobaric design (using a pair of drivers acting as one driver with twice the cone mass, half the suspension compliance, half the Vas, half the voice coil resistance, and 3dB lower sensitivity compared to one) although it's a 2x10" it has the same maximum output and low frequency extension of a 1x10" of double the net volume (the doubling of power handling gets back the 3dB sensitivity loss, and note that the net volume is the volume behind the rear driver in the isobaric so you also have to add the space for the front driver and the isobaric chamber, and the port (which has to be three times as long if you halve the net volume to maintain the same tuning)). Compared to a normal 2x10" an isobaric 2x10" has 6dB lower max output. End result is that the SP212 can't play as loud as the Midget, let alone the SP210 getting anywhere near the Compact.
That fair opinion on the SP210, but don't mock it till you've tried it.. I've tried lots gear based on the spec and the spec mean nothing unless you try both.. I think the 210 is better than the 212 and i've tried both.. In a nutshell, it's blasted any 2x10 & 1x15 out of the water and alot of 2x12
I'm looking to replace my whole rig (which is fine, it's just a bit muddy when you really really crank it and isn't that portable) with an Orange Terror 500 and a Barefaced Compact. I've been doing some research into both of these and the terror seems ideal for what I want tonally (slightly gritty aggressive thump) and it's obviously very portable. The barefaced compact by nature also seems to be incredibly portable too but i've a question or two about it if that's okay alex? I see that you reccomend 200-500 watt heads at 8ohms. The Terror is exactly 500 watts at 8ohm which seems ideal, but i know for a fact that they are scarily loud for that. Would the cab still suit? And will it provide what I need for my tone? Sorry for the questions. Tom.
why not get the Terror and the orange sp210.. The amp is 500w the cab cab handle 600w.. It's small and blo*dy loud and sound great.. that's what I use. I get it on the tube without a fuss.. I was blown away by it's power and tone I use a jazz Aerodyne and a Jazz US roadworn.. My styles are anything from rock, pop to Soul, folk and a bit of dub.. and anything else

I don't ever get nervous on big gigs, but I tremble at playing in front of other bassists... I feel I can fool an audience, but not another bassists :-)

Not to make this decision harder, but the MXR bass DI is a contender.. In my opinion, I'd try the VT1 as it's using an actual valve and after using an amp with a valve preamp (terror bass). I love it. That said, if I'm still take my sansamp if I'm using hired gear/borrowed gear.. that said, my terror bass is now pretty small

I have Terror Bass and an sp210 for my gigs.. London Transport + a folding trolley = Easy.. I can kick out 500w with my rig and it's not heavy at all.. If you want life even easier. the markbass gear is even lighter.. Driving in central London is pointless, expensive (C charge, fuel, parking tickets/fees) and sometimes impossible to park you can't drink after the gig.. I only use my car for gig outside of London and then I try to car share before if you want. I'll only drive for recordings where I need alot of gear/basses etc.. and the budget is there

The terror is only 5kg.. no back pain
Hey thanks for the advice... sorry I forgot to specify the budget. I'm not 100% sure since I'm not getting it for another month or so, but probably £500 max for the head. Thanks for raising the cab issue, I don't have one yet was gonna decide in relation to the head I end up getting. Prefer 1x15 though. Funny about the orange amps suggested 'cos I have the tiny terror guitar head! I have to say it is a very sweet, vintage amp, but would I be a loser to have another tiny terror in the apartment for the bass?? Maybe it's worth it! cheers
It's not the tiny terror it's the terror bass :-) if you already like orange.. do it.. I recently gave my terror a good rocking out on a gig with another guitarist who uses orange and he loved it, so it makes sense.. and it's less than £500 (£460). Just don't forget to buy the In-Line Attenuators for the hot DI if you use it, only £8 or so from studiospares
Orange Terror Bass Light weight, 500w, valve preamp, 4 or 8 ohm switch..... Simple eq. Doesn't have the headphone socket though... just play quieter!!! Old school thump to the max
+1 get the terror.. works great with them.. just use the DI out into a mini mixer (new £50), the you can also plug your CD player/computer in the mixer for practicing as well. Very Girlfriend Friendly!! I actually use my tascam audio interface.. if you have one use that

Hmm interesting.. I have the PBDDI and it's fine. I notice you get a bit nosey when you're changing the noise, but once you program the sound, It's silent.. Usually I would say power supply as I've had that at some venues, but to be honest it's the level of noise is the issue rather than if there is any I'm sure a techy on here will know what to do.. I know sometimes you can get feedback with hot pups, but it would usually be through the shuttle aswell..
