Err, it's cool, mate.. Well, I'm no spec, when it comes to tech stuff, but HB stuff isn't 'quality' gear in the end, is it.. I couldn't get on with design anyway, so Ibby remains my best bet.. easy faith
What basis can you say it's not 'quality' gear? I've seen items that don't look as good, but speak to a tech guy and find it's actually better Fair point it's not as pretty as the ibby though.. but for the saving... I'd give the HB a ago
On what basis do you come up with that?????? Most (if not all) the D class amps apparently use stock parts anyway (ie the entire poweramp sections are actually the same modules bought from the same manufacturer). That would be a lot of the reason why all the manufacturers suddenly produce amps that do 1200w at the same time etc etc... Given that this is probably using similar tech, if not the same part for the amp section I would think it is probably likely to be as reliable as any of the rest. The preamp on the other hand could sound rubbish. Of course I might be wrong, but I cant tell from a picture and a look at the spec any more than you can!
+1 I agree.. if you've heard it or got some extra spec. But I've heard/see it time and time again: two brands same manufacture, same parts, different badge, different price
I had a nice Hartke playing experience back in 2005 at a festival in Thailand - and I'd really like to try out the HyDrive cabs at some point... IME Hartke make great, solid gear that just works - sure it's no frills but with a decent bass in your hands and some Hartke gear behind you I'm a lot happier with that than many other amps/cabs - shame most rehearsal rooms and festivals favour either Trace or Ampeg - I'm not a fan of either
True, I'd be much happier in the rehearsal room with on of those.. My friend who I borrowed his gear all the time had the classic head with the 4x10.. lovely. The tube/solid state pre amp was awesome... you have to pay alot to get past that quality..
Nice to know I'm not going mad. My experience with the promethean. -Went into a shop to try a shuttle 3.0 and saw the promethean. A/Bed them, loved the Promethean. -Went home to see what other people thought (no luck, at the time it seemed nobody had them). -Resolved to buy it, went back... it had been sold! -When they got another one in... What? How come I didn't notice that hiss before? In the end I got something else. Been following your other thread, and I'm glad to hear you got a good one in the end Lovely tone (the shuttle sounded so thin in comparison). If Ibanez can just get the quality control sorted out I think they've got a good thing going here.
Hit nail on the head.. the 3.0 shuttle is thin.. I hear the 6 and 9 is better.. but the Ibanez is screaming value and tone. I like my gear, but would love the combo in addition to my gear..
I think that's cause there are lots of amps out there that deliver the sound you want, but instruments are by feel too. One you've placed your amp down it's size is irrelevant but your always playing your bass and a neck that's too big is going to bring you down.
Ok here goes my rant.. the main reason people haven't heard of them so much because people generally buy brands and not good products from shops who know nothing about the products just buy the known brands.. or the latest craze its a shame, there's alot of stuff out there that sounds better than the 'norm' but it's just a bit hard to locate because of this reason... I really like promethaen, if heard it on the many gigs and used one myself for a while and if has as good standing as the rest and in some cases better.. just the everyday shop has no clue... You'll see Fender, Ampeg, Trace, Hartke, Roland and in some better shops GK, Markbass, Orange, Aguilar, EBS etc.. The comment not many don't players use it so it cr*p is BS really. I'm not having a go at you, just the comment made to the person who said that to you.. Lots of people use some well known brands than are basically cr*p or hould I say particular product.. I try to stay open minded and just try the product... Rant over breathe :-)
.....' Damn, that thing's cool!! ' Just arrived so I've only had time enough to plug it on and play for two mins (I'm with the little un) but .... ...... ....... NO HISS!!!! Yay ! Oh it's sooooo cool. I reckon we'll be seeing plenty of these! Full review to come. Along with barefaced compact/midget, zoom b9.1ut and wizard gaffer reviews. Just as soon as fatherhood allows, it's the dreaded MMR this afternoon :-/
oohhh I like I like
Yeah, i used to have two strips of Platfoam under my cab. This worked just as well as the pad IIR, although it was less stable. A long strip costs £12 from studio spares and can be cut down to just the right size for a 1212L. Well worth a try IME. Ive al sways hated raising my cab off the stage, it seems to loose most of the bottom end but these platforms and foam strips seem to keep the low end but help get rid of the boom.
Has anyone got as link of this stuff?
Small stages often mean it has to be close to a wall and limits flexibility, however the crate idea could be tried .... can anyone expand on this?
When I use my 2x10, I usually put it on crate, on another amp, monitor or just basically off the ground so it doesn't boom and can cut through
-
That's not the cab's fault, it's down to the room and/or your placement of the cab. The Schroeder is a pretty neutral cab especially at lower volumes. I've heard people say they want a different cab because they want more bass response, which is fair enough I suppose if you use a lot of BASS rather than low mids, but at low volumes in small rooms if you're having problems you should try harder to make the most of your gear rather than throwing more money at the problem. Move the cab by a foot or a couple of feet away from nearby walls, or lift it onto a crate or something if you're on a hollow stage, stuff like that tends to solve boomy sound issues better than trying a different cab - ultimately if you're asking a different cab to produce the same sound in the same place you will encounter the same problems. In my experience the 1212L is a quality cab that works well in a multitude of typical gigging band situations and it's worth persevering with. I use mine for both a reggae/punk gig and also to amplify my double bass and it does a good job on both.
I think It can be a horses for courses thing. I've found them to be very loud, but I sometimes, I think it's come across boommy, that said, I've seen some people get some great sounds out of it.. also it's the type of tone you want from the cab.. I think Markbass 1x15 are very controlled but lack a bit of warmth, but work better with a more gritty 2x10 type cab rather than the normal markbass 2x10.. but that's just my opinion. In terms of placement.. if you're gigging a lot in different places, you might be stuck in a corner and have no choice about placement, so flexibility is key.
It looks like you're on the Oxman stage at 12:30pm on Saturday. Backline bass amp will be a Hughes & Kettner 300w head and an Ashdown 2x10 cab. I was thinking about bringing my own backline but tbh for a half hour slot I don't know if I'll bother, but I need to find out what they've got on the other stage we're playing on first... Edit: To answer your questions in the other thread: They request that you arrive 2 hours before you're due on, at Gate 4, and that your whole act arrives at the same time. The main contact in your band should've received all this info by now but I can email it all to you if you PM your address (can't find a way to attach files to a PM).
Will you organise my gigs :-)
I'm not convinced on that point. The contract formed includes a charge of £200 for p&p. I'm not sure there's a legal limit on how much can be charged for p&p. Ebay has its own rules, but they do not create law.
I understand your point but I think you've missed my point mine. I meant that the contract agreed apon is technically legally binding regardless if ebay get involved or not. The issue of whether the P&P has technically enabled the buyer not to agree to pay the P&P charges according to Ebay rules. When you click bid, you're technically legally bound, but within the rules that Ebay set. The Seller inorder to sell as signed up to agreeing to pay by Ebay rules. But in a nutshell, I think the seller just might agrue, that since they have not sold under rules set by ebay, the bid was never valid so he technically refuse the sale.. I was just saying you could frighten them that regardless of ebay, he shouldn't offer an item for 99p as technically any seller could arrange to pick it up regardless.. As I the offer is 99p. You can't force P&P unless you make it very clear P&P at the point of sale that is the only was to receive the goods in question.
As would I but you'd be amazed how often ebay/paypal favour the buyer... especially if they thought they could stamp on the postage overcharging, which diddles eBay out of fees. Saying all of that, the guy is just trying to get a decent price for his items whilst circumventing the eBay fees... can't blame him for the latter part of that.
If you don't like how Ebay works, don't use it!.. As much as I hate Ebay, you get more punters as it provides a service.. So use it or not.. It' not smart. In terms of contract law he's agreed to 99p, you accept, he's screwed.. The P&P is breach of the Ebay rules, so that is the point to argue. I've reported the amp and cab, but it's still there!!!.. I might buy it, if ebay do nothing.. it's worth the drive from London :-) Just pay the 99p on PayPal..
I also have to agree 100% and praise Proel (MarkBass UK Distributors) for the extent of their service. In my case a in Jan 09 I bought my dream combo: a MB CMD102P however earlier this year a new tube head came out the Little Mark Tube, and I asked Darren at the Bass Merchant (another top bloke but you already know that) if he could enquire with Proel to see if the new LM Tube head could be easily swapped with the original (LM II) he came back in a flash and said that not only it can be done but that Proel would be happy to swap it themselves so to safeguard my warranty that no work had been done by hillbillies, the turnover was just 3 days, I drove down to Bass Merchant, dropped the amp, Darren lent me a similar combo (genz benz or sommat) and 3 days later he sent me back my amp and even arranged collection of the loan amp! Proel were supa nice but Darren made it all happen thanks to his savoir-faire and excellent customer vs distributors relations. On the plus side not 2 days after the exchange I managed to sell my original MB LMII head and made a good part of my money back... oh and Darren did apply a nice basschat forum discount. Top Marks on all account. The tube preamp has made a considerable change in sound, it has given the amp the required warmth it lacked and with the tube blend knob you can dial it in at your perusal from totally solid state to 50% solid/tube to 100% tube preamp offering me the best of both worlds. My combo went from this... add this.... to this....
dribble dribble... very nice
Yeah, worth a try. Its actually called a VPF, no idea why i put VCF (i used to play synth so mabe thats why) but im sure you know what im on about.
The Markbass Heads are one of the most verstilte heads out there, i think.. the filters work very well.. I always say two cabs is more practical than one big cab, if you do a mixture of gigs. I have 2x10 for small gigs and add the 1x15 for big.. I'm very tempted by getting two Aguilar 1x12 cabs.. EVERYONE keeps going on and on and on and on and on about them :-)

on the backline front.. if you have a sansamp, mxr DI or EBS Micro Bass.. bring it.. if you don't don't worry. I've found bass amp at festivals go from great to awful, at least if you have that you'll know the sound to the FOH will be better and on stage..
I've got the custom moulds with 25s and I wouldn't have said that they were overkill for my situation - but I do play in a loud rock band. I would recommend anyone to get the custom moulds over the "christmas tree" type. The sound quality is SO MUCH BETTER. J.
+1 I agree.. Over time, i think you're hearing gets better or.. you start to hear more or you start to notice more.. I like the 15's but lately the 25's seem to stay in more these days. Some rock I do would make your ears bleed :--). The pop stuff depends on the noise on the stage
haha, if he does let you collect could be intresting, i've not heard back from him yet.
For paid gigs, I've always treated any shared gear used (van, PA, lights etc) as an extra 'band member' when divvying up the money, whether it's owned by the band or by one person.
+1 the van is a fair point if everyone jumps in the van as well
