1.
Anyone have any experience of the Markbass Rocker? What's the difference from the LM Tube (apart from £100)? Could it be as good as the Orange but a bit more flexible? /dreams/
Hmm.. the only problem, I can see is the power thing.. I've got an 8ohm cab.. so I'll only get 300w from the rocker, as I'll get 500w from the terror.. Right.. I think I'm gonna get one...like yesterday
 2.
+1 to the TERROR - Just picked one up today and I love it already! Seems like it does only do one sound, but it's a reasonably pliable sound (if that makes sense) and it sounds to my ears to be a great sound for gigging with. Warm, clear, BASS sounding, and I imagine it'll have plenty of cut-thru in a band situation. I loved my little mark ii, but it was just clean within an inch of its life and lacked any kind of character to my ears. The orange seems right just out the box! I'll post in more detail when I've gigged it, but my initial impression is don't pass it by
Thanks for that.. I've noticed you're looking for a 210.. maybe you should be looking at the orange sp210. I love mine. Everytime, I gig it, I turn heads
 3.
My bass terror is awesome, yes it kinda just does one sound very well....the EQ isn't massively powerful, but I can't say that I've ever been at a gig and needed more than a tweak on any EQ to be happy. Over-Eq'ing an amp is bad IMO! But yes, remember that the Terror front end is the same as the AD200! Si
What cab do you use with the terror?
 4.
+1 The MB might have the warmth but no grit, and the GB IMO is very bright and almost hifi. The tube grind from the pre in the Shuttle isnt that gritty at all. Bass Terror is your friend. Loud/light/warm/gritty when you want it/not expensive considering what it does!
I'm leaning towards that opinion.. does anyone know much about the.. I like where I can have warmth or grit.. Anyone know about the Mark Tube???
 5.
I recall AlexClaber mentioning that custom colours were an option for an extra charge, maybe get an orange barefaced. I don't think orange are known for flexibility.
I tried the ad200 and it was pretty flexible.. I just finish I had a mate that I could try a terror for one gig.. if I was happy I could sell my LM and 1x15 cab to recoup funds
 6.
Just buy the Terror Bass head... less than £500, 2x 12AX7'S in the preamp, same controls as the AD200 . Simple!
I see you have one.. and I take it you're happy then.. I'm desperate the put a decent amount of power in sp210..
 7. I'm thinking on getting the 15inch Orange to replace the Markbass 1x15.. so I can use my Orange sp210 for smaller gigs and the add the 15 for the big gigs.. In my head I'd love ad200, then later 410... So I can chop and change with the sp210... Ideally I'd like the 4x10 (+15) for big stuff and the sp210 for the small gigs or maybe just sp210 and the 410.. My only problem is I'd love the ad200, but it's too heavy (I work/gig in london alot and can use the tube with my current rig, which great and saves the pennies rather than driving). My MarkBass LM2 is great for that portability, but I've fallen for the orangey/tubey vibe, but need flexibility.. so i'm thinking a pre tube/solid power amp with lots of power tubey, like and light .. but not sure about the terror, I as i've been told it's not that flexible (it has one good sound).... I was thinking the Genz Benz shuttle 6.0 or the Mark tube.. I'm not sure if I'm just trying to much variety out of one set up. Maybe two amps might just be the key. The SP210 drew me to orange now.. I love the orange vibe even over ampeg, which I've used for years and also love So... deep breath Any thoughts other than winning the lottery and buying the lot?
 8. I would say say the EVO over the harkte... As much as I'm not a fan of either,I've tried both and the evo has a warmer sound (not that bad). The harkte sounds very plastic to me, rather a boom than bass, well in my cloggy ears anyway Keep an eye on the second hand market.. You get far better quality in sound for less money.. after going from an ampeg rig.. you'll need it
 9. Good advice, guys.. Nice to feel safe ;-)
 10. depending on how much you want to spend. Markbass are very light and sound great. you could take it on the train Markbass MINI CMD 121P very light (300w on it's own), 500w with another light extension cab. There are usually a few on ebay second hand as a bit pricey new.. £800 Spec below: 1x12" cab IMPEDANCE 8 ohms AMP OUTPUT POWER 500W @ 4 ohm / 300W @ 8 ohm WEIGHT 29.3 lbs / 13.3 kg HEIGHT 17 in. / 43.2 cm WIDTH 15.3 in. / 38.3 cm DEPTH 14.1 in. / 35.8cm
 11.
I guess I kinda did the ultimate test. I hooked te driver into my oranges effects return, which cuts out the nice warm tubes. With the parrallel out feeding my orange ad140 (all tube) First I worked on getting a flat signal through driver. I A/B with the dry signal until I got something I couldn't distinguish between them. When setup like this it takes away the apparently "colouring" pre-amp stage. For anyone else wanting a flat(ish) signal with the box engaged I notched the bass a tad up, between 12 and 1, the mid at 3 with mid frequency set at 750 then notched treble to nearly 11. Great now I have my dry signal (surprisingly nice) a flat signal through the box and an all tube amp to compare. The driver does an a warmth to the signal but compared to my all tube head it sounds slightly artificial. Also it supposed to emulate the tube compression, I witnessed no such thing. However the signal when it's engaged does sound nice, there's no harsh peaks and it's warm enough to notice and in a real situation you wouldn't notice the difference. Ok good test?
Very good test. 'warmth' is the key word. But I think that's why tube pre amps/solid power amps are starting to appeal to this problem. I've been looking at markbass tube, shuttle 6.0 or 9 and possible the terror bass but I hearthe EQs don't relate change the sound much The thing is sometimes I do feel that it's more a warm DI with some amp simulation, rather than tube amp emulation.
 12. Some link their cabs. Amp + Cab + Cab as some plug both cabs directly into their.. each way changes the independence and your power. Why not two spekon? who knows.. My orange cab has two spekon/1.4jack connections
 13. The cool list in the band in order of getting the girl is: Lead singer Lead guitarist/Drummer massive space The bass player Anyone else except the keyborad player huge gap Keyboard player There are exceptions to that rule.. (when the bassist is the lead singer) so they are technically the lead singer
 14.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMu3dJCw9C8 Sorry for the misleading title.. made you look though didnt it?
That's where I like the bass sits, just behind the drums, it makes the groove phatter. You make it sit well mate. Some might say your timing is better than the drummer ;-) (I play drums aswell). I do like the drummer tho. The latin was nice!!
 15. That's what's rocking about I tell ya!! nice one
 16.
Black basses with maple necks are seckshual!
Very
 17. just being objective.. you can't ask a bunch of bassist what looks better.. that's like asking a BMW dealer they are better than Mercs.. ask people have no clue this question, like singers
 18.
Drummers can read?! And type?!
ohhh . I play both.. there are enough drummer jokes and bassist jokes ;-)
 19.
Good point - just shows that a band and it's sound is never just one person. The first two three albums must have had a strong influence from Smith and Zender. In fact come to think of it I am sure that Stuart Zender said that JK was into dance music when they met and it was him and Smith that got him into 70's funk. All kind of makes sense now!
The old days. I love the bass on this tune.. hmmmmmm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0ACSbsV3y8 Bring it back.. maybe I'll just have to listen to the old stuff.
 20.
Agree..wouldn't give it any thought otherwise.
I agree, if you play something tricky, you end up thinking.. and we all know musos should never think
 21.
Worth a thought, for sure. I hear that these new club 121s are supposed to sound better than previous MB cabs and MB cabs in general seem to attract lovers and haters in equal measure. What a minefield!
My take on MB is. That they are light have a good tone, but if I had more funds or a stronger back, I'd look elsewhere.. I use a LM and an orange sp210. I think it has more tone than the MB's.. but light is i'mportant as a gigging muso.. I can take it on the tube. I can actuall take my full rig on the tube 2x10, 1x15 and LM, bass on back.. It makes a city gig alot cheaper for me
 22. when I get a new bass (esp 2nd hand), I usually get it setup by a shop bass shop, then after that I can tweek it myself as time goes on, as I find you change one thing, the other is not right.. If some sets it up you can work out what you want.. I think because, I just don't have the time.. Over time, you gain more experience then you learn how to do stuff by yourself..
 23. Mental note to self.. don't listen to JK's new stuff.. It's like the boxer that was once great, now.. it's time to retire.. shame.. I still like the old stuff
 24.
Um, I think I would get another one of these:
put me on the list for that too. I'd love a ricky.. I years to come... oh yes
 25.
Overall, I think it's pretty hard to get a transparent signal through anything 'solid state'. With some settings, both my custom jazz, fender jag and Epi EB-1 all sound roughly similar with very little to distinguish between them.
I agree.. I guess most of us are looking for the balance between warmth, punch and a distinct tone, which you get from a tube amp.. but my back couldn't handle that on gigging a number of times a week... on tour.. yes.. at a wedding with your own back... hmmm maybe not. I like the fact I can take most of my rig on the train (minus the extention cab), which means gigs in the city are a breeze are getting a lift with another band member is easier etc ao for that reason, with my little mark and orange cab... i'm old
