1. I came away with very little GAS (probably due to Mark at Bass Direct NOT bringing a Bergantino NV610 and the new Genz benz Strealiner)! And that, for me, was a result! lol!
 2. I like slap when it's used tastefully and in it's place. Unfortunately what I heard today at the Bass Show was neither tasteful nor in it's place.... Lots of show-off bedroom bassists trying to outdo each other but not actually LISTENING to the tonal palette available from the instrument/amp they were demo-ing. Pointless and unnecessary.... and puts me, and many others, off attending future shows....
 3. I'm currently negotiating crappy London transport on my way to the show. Dreading the bedroom-player 'slapfest' but looking forward to seeing some tasty gear
 4.
.........and now it has a new home, indeed. This is a cracking instrument! I've never played a Spector before and I'm deeply impressed. The neck is remarkable. It takes a silly-low action with no buzz whatsoever, anywhere. And I'm getting some proper Flea circa 1987 tones out of the EMG's so I'm a happy bunny. Bargain this. Cheers Ash.
Congrats and welcome to the 'club'!
 5.
If only it was black...
At this price you could buy it and get it resprayed and STILL have a bargain!
 6. Meet them first & if you all get along - do it! The other band(s) can find a dep bassist in the meantime for gigs already booked, then if you change your mind you can always go back...
 7.
Cool - that's actually closer to me than Coalville. I'll book that one in.
Nice one!
 8. The classic 80's/90's Diesel cabs (2x104x10/1x15/2x15/1516 and Powerhouse) cabs loaded with EV's were MONSTERS and are some of the best sounding bass cabs EVER made IMHO. The more recent ones, though good, are IMHO not a patch on the earlier EV loaded ones...
 9.
Which is the weight? Tks!
The weight (according to my bathroom scales) is approx 8 lbs
 10.
Is that the one I played mate? If so, it plays wonderfully and sounds gorgeous, from glassy grit to dub tones with ease.
Hey Nige, it's not THE one.... but it IS it's sister! Thanks for the affirmation of the quality we're dealing with here...!
 11.
No disrespect, Cetera...you couldn't do your act without it.
It's half the fun.....and I make for a very imposing character!
 12. Contact 'Bilbo'... he'd LOVE this!
 13.
This thread has still got legs i see... I have been thinking about this today and wanted to share our experience. I am doing this because it seems from previous posts that its neccessary to be in one camp on this argument - you are either for cover/tribute bands or against them. There is a 3rd way perhaps... My main current band started as an originals band playing a genre that was never going to get a shed load of gigs locally. We decided to have an alter-ego cover band so that we could earn money to keep the pro players happy and also funnel a percentage back into the originals project. 4 years later we have the original members still playing and have reached (i think) a decent balance. We don't think less of the cover band gigs we do - we still put a lot of effort into them. We still put a lot of effort into writing and recording original material too. Gigs - we do functions, corporate stuff, weddings, nightclubs with the cover band and earn good money without having to travel too far. For the original band we do support slots and a completely different circuit - normally for little or no money and travel a lot further. The cover band has really helped us (IMHO) be a better originals band in many ways and kept everyone interested.
An excellent, well thought out post mate!
 14. Congrats! She's a beauty.... And welcome to the 'Owners Club'
 15.
At last!! We agree on something
Crikey mate, we'll be meeting for beers next!
 16.
When playing with my current (tribute) band, I play with as much soul and feeling as I did when playing in an originals band. Just because I didn't write the bassline, doesn't mean I can't play it with feeling. I agree with Bassicinstinct - it's the quality that matters. To use Bilbo's analogy, I'd rather watch many Alan Partridge repeats than watch one new episode of Snog, Marry Avoid.
+1 to ^this. If the original writer of a piece of music is the only person who can play it with feel or conviction then every other musician might as well not bother...
 17.
My dislike is redoubled when it is clear that a poster is simply using someone else's success to account for their own frustrated lack of progress. This is a very British thing and a mean-spirited tradition I would like to see jettisoned. The solution is exemplified by Lowendbee's Originals Bands In Pubs thread. He's not bitching and moaning. He's getting out there and doing something about it.
Exactly! Don't be a hater.... be a motivator!
 18. I'll be there on Sunday... Praying it doesn't turn into an aural holocaust of slappers on every stand....
 19.
Garage in Glasgow - yep I'm up for that. Looking forward to it already. Thanks again for a great night at Lanark.
Thank YOU for coming along mate See you in Glasgow!
 20.
Spurious lists of facts not withstanding, they still suck.
Nowt spurious there and I'd barely started... but I see you've moved onto schoolyard stuff now eh? Seems this thread has degenerated into the usual mess
 21. Thanks Dave! It is rather lovely:)
 22.
legendary bands like KISS...

...you've got to be taking the piss, surely?
Err...no... Over 100 million album sales, record breaking concerts and tours, fantastic stage shows, an incredibly successful 38 year career and being a major influence on just about every well known rock & heavy rock band of the 80's/90's etc etc all makes them legendary. Surely the chip on your shoulder & personal dislike of them doesn't make you blind to the facts?!
 23.
Its the Macdonaldsisation of music. Tribute bands are small franchises of the bands they copy. Loads of people like them but they are ultimately lacking in nutrition and probably rot your teeth.
Really?! I've found that we have a whole new younger generation of fans coming along to see us because we play great anthemic songs they can get into, to a high standard, and with a full production show to go with it - adding excitement, a feeling of being 'part of something' & value for money. Many of these kids have never/are never likely to see older legenday bands like KISS & for them this is a chance for them to discover new 'old' music which then leads onto other classic rock acts and a healthy interest in newer rock bands, keeping the 'live rock' scene alive for new bands... Really chaps, this argument has been done to death & the level of resentment and bitterness is misplaced. There is a HUGE amount of talent in many tribute bands and indeed there is a lot to be said for the musical discipline required to do it to a high standard. Many/most successful tribute musicians have paid their dues in original bands themselves (& still do on the side) so find it's curious that they are met with such bitterness for enjoying their craft and providing enjoyment to others by actually leaving their bedrooms and playing live for people... Is your originals band not popular enough? Write some good songs, put some energy into your performance, organise your OWN gigs, promote them well, use social networking media to it's max, organise a street team & get good product together while making a name for yourselves. You could even maybe do that instead of spending time moaning/hating on online forums!
 24.
@ Cetera I'm more worried about where you store all of them! Not sure my house would fit them all in
That's the trick.... don't store them at home
