Spector Rex
I've spotted a nice five string Spector Rex on the 'bay. Anybody owned one of these who'd be prepared to comment on the good/bad/ugly points? Anybody know what the balance is like, are they any better than a Thunderbird when it comes to neck dive? Comments will be appreciated.
I have a Spector REX4 and it's gorgeous..... great tight tones, ergonomically pretty comfortable and not so bad on neck dive. Only real improvement I'd make is to increase the power/oomph of the pickups by replacing them with full EMGs rather than the current EMG-Hz's....
4. Beautiful Spector! Have a free bump
5. I have a 'display' guitar rack (I believe made by Dixon) which holds 9+ guitars & looks very similar to this.... I can't find an 'actual' picture of mine but you get the idea! It's like the ones you see at Music Trade Shows that have the latest model guitars/basses displayed on them.... It's in an unassembled state at the moment in storage so no actual pictures. Dimensions are approx: Width 5ft 4" Height 5ft Depth at base 2ft 2" These are very hard to get hold of outside of commercial/trade circles & can cost up to £300 but this one can be yours for *SOLD SUBJECT TO THE USUAL* Pickup from Surrey is infinitely preferable as shipping would be expensive, unwieldy and would be at buyers cost...
Blasphemy
If I recall correctly from the Talkbass thread where this appeared - this monstrosity was actually refinished to match the colours of the helicopter in Magnum PI... What?!? Why?!? Who knows....
8.
One or two of us here own one of those fine Jazz Bass Specials, me included. Awesome bass!
Indeed, I love mine!
9. Gorgeous grindy tone..... lovely!!
10. Crafted In Japan
11. To address the confusion re: the PRS fee...... The venue has to raise their licence fee in whatever way they see fit. At PRS we SUGGEST that they swallow the fee themselves or add a penny on a pint, but some venues charge the bands for this. Should they do that? No, of course not.... but we can't stop them. If you don't like it then you should complain to the venue that the bands shouldn't be charged for PRS since it is a requirement for the venue to stay in the business of 'live music'. You could of course choose not to play there..... but then you'd have to find another gig at a similarly good venue. However, all of this is idealistic and the fact is that almost everyone who plays in a 'live concert' licensed venue pays the PRS regardless of whether they realise they are doing so. I've lost count of the times I've found out that the PRS fee has simply been added into the fee for 'security', 'use of PA', 'engineers'. 'ticket printing' etc etc and the bands have been none the wiser.
12. One of my all-time fave bassists..... from that wonderful 70's period where so many bassists played beautiful, imaginative, melodic and memorable basslines!
13. Yep, he should be selling both for £5000 - £5500.... half his price!
14. Active 9v EMG's through an original HazLab preamp.... LUSH!!
15. Come on peeps this is a BARGAIN! Free bump for MrLager!
16. Looking good! Don't forget to make contact if you want to move it on
17. I always went for the classic clean 'smile EQ' with loads of bass and treble and a mid cut. Loved the tone when practicing.... but in a band environment I couldn't hear myself. Discovered 'mids', almost reversed the graphic, added more gain and voila! Bold growling bass tone and easily heard in the band environment!
18. It's a Mouradian. And it's on my ever-shrinking GAS list!
19. AND they missed out on making their own version of the current 'in favour' 2x12 Neo cabs.... doh!
20. Matching headstock or plain wood?
21. Thanks chaps! My pleasure
22. Free bump for my old bass and the fine gent that is MrLager. Cracking instrument at a great price..... these are £1799 retail now!
