Glad to be of service..... Not sure how this band flew under the radar as I'm sure they'd be very popular with fans of everything from Steely Dan - Doobie Brothers - Kansas - Yes - Alan Parsons Project etc etc Enjoy, one and all -
Those Tech21 heads are superb.... NICE!
Been looking through again, cetera, and your black fretted 'Geddy' spec Wal is my fave. Gorgeous
Cheers mate..... it's strung with very light gauge 'Funkmaster' strings like Geddy used which is kinda interesting for me as I've always used 45-105's.... It plays beautifully & has a cracking tone! -
Wow, nice to find another Ambrosia fan here and thanks for posting these clips. I have the 'Life Beyond L.A.' album, too. Also have 'Road Island' (1982) with the excellent cover art by Ralph Steadman. I've always considered David Pack to be a hugely under-appreciated vocalist. I remember seeing something on TV years ago with him, Michael McDonald and (I think) Amy Irving working out some harmonies in the studio. Lovely stuff! Interesting to also see Joe Puerta using the X-Factor bass. You'll probably know another of my faves, Kenny Gradney/Little Feat, is big on these.
Thanks for the reply mate.... I thought I was all alone in my appreciation of this band! I really recommend you purchase their other 3 albums - Ambrosia, Somehwere I've Never Travelled & One Eighty..... classics one & all Yep, nice to hear such a great tone from his X-Factor & a simple Hartke rig... Kenny Gradney is great.... with the aforementioned Joe Puerta & Tiran Porter, Peter Cetera, Dee Murray etc he's one of my faves! -
Love the black & blue ones

Musicman Stingray or Spector EuroLX for starters....

Thanks chaps! I often look at my collection and I am humbled by just how many great basses I own. It hasn't been cheap/easy but I get great pleasure out of owning & playing them -
AMBROSIA I've always loved this band ever since I was introduced to their music by Tiran Porter (original bassist of 'The Doobie Brothers'). They never really made an impact over here... but they were/are stunning musicians/singers/lyricists/songwriters and for me they are right up there with Rush, Kansas etc for their 70's output. Here's some recent film of their old tunes performed exclusiverly for the Drum Channel. The bassist is one of my all time favourite players, Joe Puerta (who also plays with Bruce Horsby).... and he has a beautiful feel/touch in his playing which I would be thrilled if I ever came close to... I'm sure they're new to most of you.... but I hope you can appreciate their talent So, enjoy 'AMBROSIA'! Nice, Nice Very Nice Somewhere I've Never Travelled Time Waits For NoOne Life Beyond LA
+1 I feel pretty inadequate now too!! Gary, that is an amazing collection you have there.... I have bad gas now!!!
Thanks mate.... but don't feel inadequate!.... It's not how many basses you've got, it's what you do with them Luckily I play mine A LOT!
Surprised I didn't see an Ibanez Iceman bass in there though mate?
I know.... I love that shape... but more for guitar than bass. I find the shape a little unwieldy.... -
That black Geddy Wal is my dream bass Gary! First dibs if you ever decide to sell ???!!
Tell me about it.... I've wanted one for 10 years! You now have 2nd dibs.... as the seller wants 1st dibs to buy it BACK! As soon as I told the seller I would have it & started to sell my gear to raise the dosh he began having second thoughts. I ended up selling 2 Spectors, a Charvel, an Epi Tbird & a DeArmond Pilot in order to raise the dosh.... and he kept to his word about selling to me as I'd already made such huge gear sacrifices to get it...
In the meantime, I'm off to find OVER 2k for your Wenge Mk1
Edited that for you mate.... Not sure if I'll sell, trying not to if I can help it tbh... -
OH WOW! thats UNBELIEVABLE! You're on at Birdwell the Saturday before I am! I'll come up to see you on the 17th for SURE. Birdwell is like, 25 mins from my house. I'm on there on the 24th with "Departure" Birdwell likes the Rock bands, so you'll do well. I hope they save some enthusiasm for us! LoL (It'll be our first time there (and only our second gig))
Lovely stuff Andy! We're slightly concerned to be honest as they don't see mto have a very good web presence and we haven't really seen the gig mentioned much anywhere.... our promo is gonna have to go into overload!

Is it the one with the black painted neck? - i have an identical one in all black.
It is indeed.... and sounds awesome! I'm more surprised that noone has mentioned the gorgeous white 70's Jazz RI to be honest - I thought that would be very popular?! -
Impressive. Where do you keep all those basses? Do you live in a warehouse?
Most don't live with me. I have them in secure storage and I swap them back & forth for fun and according to what functions/deps/gigs I'm doing etc... -

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments..... there's 28 years of upgrading/trading/purchasing/swapping and working my fingers to the bone in that collection! lol!
WOW. Just WOW Have to say that I love NS2's. One of the first 'proper' basses I played but couldn't afford!! The Kip Winger basses are great as well. I've had mine (lacewood w/Reflex pickups) since the early 90's and I wouldn't swap it for anything. Thoroughly recommended to anyone if you're looking for something a little different to the norm. By the way, I think Kip's "Ghost" chamber piece is now on iTunes. He's a guy whose musical talents are way underestimated.
I agree... the NS (designed by Ned Steinberger for Stuart Spector, then borrowed by Warwick) is up there with the P, J, Ricky & Stingray as all-time classic bass designs... +1 on the 'Kip Winger' basses.... very powerful! Yep, Kip is a HUGELY underrated talent.... a professional NY Ballet dancer, a classically trained musician who plays great bass & keys & writes amazing classical pieces in addition to his rock stuff.... and he's one helluva singer! -

Cheers chaps! Yep, the Wal's are really great - I LOVE them...... but I may have to sell the Wenge one as I may need a large amount of money quite quickly in the near future.... If anyone's interested please PM me with realistic offers over £2k... Silverfoxnik - yep, there's just something about a 'white' Spector.... oozes class methinks... Dubs - Agreed, more companies should make purple basses... particularly in a nice rich, deep purple colour... Purpleblob/Gary Mac - you can NEVER have too many basses! As you can see! lol! Tayste - the Schecter blew me away when I purchased it.... the tone is pure in-your-face hi-mid grind (perfect for rock) but it is capable of being tamed very easily... a bit of a revelation really! Geilerbass - yep, the Axe/Punisher don't get played live with the KISS tribute.... I wouldn't want to scratch/stain them - especially as the Punisher is #007 (#'s 001-006 are owned/played by Gene himself) and the Axe is one of the original ones (not the new Cort reissues - one of which I now have as well - and am getting EMG'd up!) -
Many years ago at The Standard in Walthamstow I was doing my 'blood spitting' bass solo with the KISS tribute band. The lights were low (just a white spotlight on my face to pick out the blood trickling from my mouth).... unfortunately I prowled too near the front of the stage, was blinded by the light, my stack heel boot lost it's footing on the edge of the stage and I fell forward into the crowd with a clang on overdriven low 'E'!!! lol! Luckily for me the fans at the front caught me & pushed me back onstage (without me spilling a drop of blood from my mouth!) where I continued the solo while blushing through my white make-up! Afterwards a friend (who had been standing near the back) asked "What happened in your bass solo? You seemed to disappear from view for a few seconds with a funny bass noise and then you reappeared again!"
