1.
cheers. ill see if i can understand that website.

I think the bass in your pic is very similar to the one i mentioned above. very tasty IMO.
Indeed, except that the one in my avatar pic (of Peter Cetera) is a white 70's JAZZ bass  :)

  2.
I just looked on the site posted by thumbo and they have a lovely white 70's re issue with USA vintage pup for £599.
Thats very tempting and just in the budget once i sell the 55-01.
Am i to assume then that the Jap basses aren't easy to come by in shops? I didn't know that. Guess thats why i haven tseen any ;-)
I'm definitely up for getting a Jap P and a Jap J bass in the New Year. Best bet is to import them from Ishibashi. Even with shipping, taxes etc it will work out cheaper than from GuitarEmporium.....

  3. My GAS knowing no bounds I am considering selling the following cab to raise some cash. I would be very sad to see it go, especially as these things are not only holding their value, but gaining value every day!

What we have here is a classic late 80's/early 90's Mesa/Boogie Diesel cab loaded with the highly desirable EV speakers and pumping out a VERY loud 450W at 4ohms....

The speaker array is a 15", 10" & 2x6" & a horn with a couple of large bass ports along the side.

This particular cab is in excellent condition, probably one of the finest examples still out there (having only had light use) and comes with castors for ease of movement. The only real damage is a slight part of the 'M' in the logo having broken off, and a light dent in the 10" cone (easily rectifiable), neither of which affect the monster tone in any way!

As some of you may be aware, this cab is the choice of Paul McCartney and he can always be seen with couple of them behind him on tour.

Cab would need to be collected or I could deliver within 30 miles of Kingston Upon Thames for a small petrol contribution.

    Any interest?

  4. I hate Parcelforce but had to use them at a buyers request last week. I sent a bass to Finland and it arrived within 4 days, fine.... however, they were late picking it up, showed little customer service and were unfriendly. Though I guess they should get a +1 (reluctantly) for completing the delivery successfully I feel like giving them a ZERO for the overall process.

I also sent a guitar to the US a couple of weeks back by FedEx (48hr delivery) and that arrived safe & sound. Excellent timely pick-up, helpful & friendly staff and delivery within deadline. Excellent! +1

  5.
I think if you own it all with the purpose of it making you money then maybe you are betting off doing something else.
+1

I love everything about my basses, playing music at home or 'live'.... and the social aspect of being in bands as well. If your sole reason for owning gear & playing is 'making money' then maybe you're not getting all you can out of the whole experience of being a musician?

  6.
Paul's a top quality craftsman; I thought that WAL was sold to Headline and Gavin Mortimer the distributor that handles PRS??

Anyone know any different or did that deal fall through after the announcements were made?
'Headline' got AHEAD of themselves and announced a deal BEFORE the ink had dried. Pete Stevens is not one to be forced into anything, especially concerning his beloved WAL, and backed out.... quite rightly...

  7.
Are Mollys chambers and whiskey in the jaro not the same song?....Whiskey in the jar/Thin Lizzy?
Nope, Mollys Chambers is a song by Kings Of Leon I believe....

  8.
Nice to know how much i could get for mine, but I'm waaay to attached to it. Anyway, it needs a whammy someday..

New Winger live album and DVD out on November 9. Unfortunately, he plays a Warwick nowadays !!
I've still got my custom signature model (lacewood, 2 EMG humbuckers, Kahler offset bridge etc) & a rare white version which I won't be parting with anytime soon....

Yep, got my order in for this live CD/DVD already.... can't wait! It's gonna be great :)

You're right about his instrument choice. It's gone downhill over the years....
He started SOOO well with a brace of Spectors.... then he changed to Jackson (still nice)... then to Washburn... and now to a new Warwick....

Though to be fair, he still uses his Spector, Jackson and a mid 80's Warwick on studio recordings....

  9. I like to play stuff the staff (& shoppers) are unlikely to know.....

Usually, 'Little Dirty Blonde' by Winger, 'Whats This World Comin' To' by Chicago, 'Sweet Maxine' by The Doobie Brothers, 'Champagne Jam' by Atlanta Rhythm Section or the like.....

They are cool basslines that will make people look up, but obscure enough that they won't know whether you are butchering them or not!! :)

  10. If you want a quality, fire retardent (very important!) backdrop and bass drum head with logo then contact GCB at Rockdrops [[email protected]] (GCB) and tell him that Gary (Spector bassist) recommended him.

He does amazing work and will do you the best deal he can....

  11.
Piccies for your viewing pleasure.

1987 Streamer bass (note the cherry body, the wenge through neck, the one-piece bridge, the non-angled tuners and the EMG's)
Those old Streamers (80's) are lovely..... and that's a very nice example. :)

  12.
Er guys, that's not the high road. The high road is not responding, or sending a response like "Thank you for your comments - we appreciate fan feedback".

    I'd just let it die.
But then there would be no 'fun' thread....

And twats like that need to be responded to and invited to show everyone their one jazz chord.... :)

  13.
The last show I went to was basically two hours on the road for little more than overly-loud software demonstrations and a huge bunch of spotty teenagers trying desperately to out-widdle each other. And the ones on the guitars were even worse. :) There was almost nothing of interest bass-wise, the sole exception being the good Doctor with his E-Basses. Apart from that it was a low-end desert. I wouldn't have minded picking up a bargain, but all I left with was the prospect of a two hour journey home. So I won't be going to this one.
I agree..... I resent paying to look around what basically is an overly busy music shop stocking nothing of particular interest.... and having my ears assaulted by the white-noise that is a hundred bedroom guitarists widdling pointlessly.....
