Nope. No bass stands out in that period....

He likely meant the original SUB USA models. Fantastic basses. Pick one up used as soon as you see one advertised!

So, having decided it WAS the blocks I liked, I decided to pimp my Betsy! Saved me £200 and it's lighter with better pickups! Before & after pic:

I really wish they had reversed the P pickup. It also looks quite far back.... I wonder if it weights the same as the J too?
-
It's all about the influence they had on a whole culture. Young people were enthused, many instruments were picked up, haircuts styled, girls wet themselves etc.... I enjoy their music but wouldn't place them in my Top 100 bands. Imho, George Harrison wrote their best stuff, followed by McCartney (who actually wrote alone a lot of the tracks credited to him and Lennon). The Get Back series on the tellybox recently was an eye opener in that regard..... Lennon had his moments but, due to his 'charisma', is held in undue reverence. YMMV etc.....

Not content with releasing their lovely new J basses, they've now released a PJ version! https://www.thomann.de/gb/search_dir.html?sw=Harley Benton MV-4PJ Gotoh

Cheers chap! Yes, they work fine with any strings type. Tame the TP EQ and flavour to taste for less growl and smoother tones with your flats.

All amp manufacturers who make small/class D etc amps should include basic rack ears or at least make them affordable as an aftermarket purchase!

Epiphone - Put out high quality, authentic, affordable reissues of Grabber/Ripper & G3 basses, like you did with the Tbird Vintage Pro. Spector - Make the Euro X a standard model (& reverse X). Make 'metallic purple' a standard colour on Euro models. Change all necks to Kramer dimensions and round off the body shape at the base (as per old look). Stop chasing the 'look at me' instagrammers for promotion. Reward your most loyal customers/users Jackson - stop with the horrific 'PJ meets Ricky' stylings and get back to making proper active thru neck PJ loaded rock 'monsters' again! Rickenbacker - sort your attitude, your QC and your pricing. Get a Euro factory to make a competitively priced version of your most popular model. Darkglass..... enough already! Gallien-Krueger - Reissue authentic sounding 400RB/800RB heads in smaller housing like the Legacy heads. Fender - make a collection of 70's P & PJ Precision basses with Jazz necks, bound & blocked. Choice of classic body colours and maple/rosewood boards.
