Nice! That's an early 80's Brooklyn-made deep-set bolt-on Spector NS2J with Badass bridge, Haz pre and 2xEMG J pickups. They had fantastic growl....

Yep, even that one. However, it only really 'offends'. It's those bulbous single cut ones that do my head in....

Ugly bass? Anything single cut. There you go. You're welcome. Thread complete. You may now delete....

Sounds to me like a pretty generic Darkglass or Sansamp gritty tone with a pick and some fret buzz from low action...
-
I played this to a regular gig going member of the public and they said "That sounds like a bass guitar"
-
It's an SX bass that someone has remodelled the headstock on and had refinished in blue. The bass in its original form would be approx £300.

I actually saw him in Phantom at the Pantages Theatre in Toronto. He was excellent and received rave reviews from attendees and critics alike. He was no slouch as a vocalist but has suffered in recent years, and freely admits it...

Yep, apart from on his own songs (where he did play bass), it was Paul Stanley, Bruce Kulick or Jean Beauvoir who played bass on the other tracks on those albums. I completely understand the reasoning behind using occasional vocal help on songs you sang high years ago, in order to see out the tour in style, giving the fans the show they deserve. Much rather that than a non-singer (Roth, Vince Neil etc) croaking his way through a set and leaving fans with a sour taste and sad memories.
-
That's because they don't need a support to sell tickets.
-
Everyone's missing the point. The reason Roth is off the tour is because it's cheaper without him.... especially as he doesn't actually sell any tickets because he's so bad. Gene is just stirring it up (as he always likes to) because he loves seeing people getting all self righteous at everything he says! lol! You've all fallen for it again. 🤣 Roth never COULD sing for toffee..... and now can't sing at all. He should have gone to Vegas as a lounge act after A L'il Ain't Enough era.... that way he could talk his way through 'My Way' etc. Stanley, however, could sing very well and is now just doing what's necessary to see out the farewell...

The passing of a Basschat legend (sad news inside)

Terribly sad news. RIP Martin.... -
Is that the sh*th*le on the edge of a cliff with a huge fire escape down to the ground out the back? If so, the stage at that place was a disgusting, beer soaked, electrical mess last time I played there (admittedly some 10+ years ago)
-
Sadly, I don't believe I'm 'sexy enough' any longer lol!
-
I really should go for this.... After all, I did spend 25+ years wearing spandex, leather and make-up in the KISS tribute.....
-
Ah yes, we've all been there I'm sure... Great bassist - hope he finds something that makes him happier.

Which isolated bass recordings would you love to hear?

Nah, just buy a Digitone Drop or detune your whole bass a semitone -

That bass track for 'Knowing Me Knowing You' is mindblowing..... Love Rutger (RIP) even more now! -
Now THAT is class...... as close as you can get soundwise to the original and, yes, the singer DOES look like Steve Perry! Hardly surprising given their pedigree. The singer is Hugo, a hugely respected AOR singer in his own right and former singer with a band called Valentine. The bassist is none other than Greg Smith who, amongst many others, has played extensively with Alice Cooper and Ted Nugent. Fantastic!

I used to be a 'custard-chucking, throbbing member'..... but now I'm just a 'supporting member'. How the mighty have fallen
