Not sure if I can be bothered to go back to gigging
cetera replied to BobVbass's topic in General Discussion
I've been in bands solidly for 30 years... and I'm still gigging in a theatre rock show. Great venues and audiences.... but Covid has shown me how little I miss all the band drama, venue nonsense, travel etc. Wondering whether the 2+ hours onstage are really worth it anymore. During lockdown I've been recording myself playing my fave basslines, initially for myself, but now sharing them with some friends and I'm finding it fun and rewarding. With the unknown situation we're gonna hit in theatreland when things finally get up and running I'm wondering if I can be bothered anymore.... but part of that lack of enthusiasm may be misplaced from recent 'guitard' dealings which has left a sour taste.... An unprecedented situation that is leaving me confused... -

This guy is my fave Bassist Youtuber. If I ever need to learn a cover song accurately I always check his vids first..... https://www.youtube.com/user/TJH3113

If it's a bolt on it isn't a Euro 4 LX. It's possibly a ReBop or a Eurobolt if it's definitely made in Czech republic. Any pics? Without knowing what it is for sure.... and the condition etc it's impossible to know whether the price is good. There is a Eurobolt on ebay at the moment for the same kind of price if that helps...?

I have a white one just like this. Great looking bass and pretty comfy to play too....!

Sounds like your issue is EQ. Any decent quality head and 2x12 size cab or larger should be fine once you find your 'EQ space' in your band. Be aware that the lovely sound you have at home is probably not the same sound that would work well cutting through a band. e.g. so many people like the smiley face EQ and then wonder why their tone disappears live behind the bass drum and the guitars/cymbals. Work on your mids - low mid is more effective than full on bass.... and high mids will add the clank that cuts in a rock band. If you're adding pedals you will also further blur the EQ and minimise the difference in head that you use. Any good 'typical rock' head with a quality cab with decent power should do the business when EQ'd correctly... e.g. GK, Ampeg, EBS etc...

I'm the opposite! I MUCH prefer the looks, feel and (in particular) sound of my Spectorbird NS2X, Fernandes Non-Reverse Spectorbird copy, Jackson TBird and Fernandes TBird to any Gibson/Epi Tbird I've owned or played....

Next one is up!

I'm sure we worked with her..... she was a real party girl.... very popular backstage after for some reason....

Bands should be required to bring their own mics for starters....

The DC/DCX soapbars have a huge sound all of their own. If, however, you miss the classic Spector PJ sound you can easily change them to 35P4(X) and 35J(X) should you require thanks to the click & connect system on current EMG pickups.... Some people seem to like the mixed combination of a P4(X) soapbar in the neck with a DC(X) too... Enjoy!!

A US Forte NS4..... nice score! Looks like Bass Direct.... am I right? What are the pickups? DC or 35P4 and 35J?

I hear you, oh faithful Paulhauser! lol! To address the original question, you won't find low end lacking in any decent Spector, no matter what preamp/pickups are present. I have experience with Barts & EMGs in Spectors and much prefer the EMGs. They are just the perfect match for the Spector construction and aesthetic to me. Preamp-wise my faves are the US Hazlab and the Tonepump with trimpot, I also like the Aguilar OBP and EMG BT circuit but I'm not feeling the Darkglass.....

Sounds fine to me through headphones. Great bass tone. I hear reasonable low end there, but with enough clank to cut through 3 guitarists and a drummer. Job done.... Maybe those who hear no low end aren't listening back on the right device..

Yep. £70. New bridge & block inlay stickers £40. Add the EMG Gzr pickup and I'll be all in for £200. Bargain...

Over the last few weeks I've picked up a cheapie (Harley Benton) and a gorgeous P workhorse (Fender Japan 70's Classic P) .....and finally got back a bass I should never have sold (Pedulla Buzz Deluxe fretless). I've already upgraded the bridge & put blocks on the Harley Benton fretboard...and will be adding EMG Gzr pickup soon. The Fender already has upgraded wiring and the Pedulla is just lush.... so much 'mwaaaaah'!

Has anyone else really enjoyed NOT gigging during this period
cetera replied to police squad's topic in General Discussion
I'm not really missing it tbh. The travel and a particular band member were a pain in the a*se.... However, said band member has now quit so that's half the hassle gone and we have a few great guys auditioning (when we can!) so hopeful of a better band dynamic. I'm enjoying playing my bass for myself and uploading a few videos and not dealing with band/venue nonsense so, if it never recovers, I'll survive..... but I know when I get back onstage I'll realise how much I missed it... Strange times... -
Things is, the only people who will buy DG cabs like that are people who like to saturate their tone with DG pedals/products. In which case, they could plug into any cabinet by a reputable manufacturer. They're just going to sound like every other DG user anyway.... lol!
