Fender Custom Shop Phil Lynott P Bass - mental price
cetera replied to Edenburgh's topic in Bass Guitars
Ah yes, it's mine now.... twas I who purchased said lovely P bass from you Mr Dood :) Insanely good P bass that is much more befitting as a PL tribute. -
That reminds me.... I had a pee next to Scott Gorham (Thin Lizzy/Black Star Riders) backstage at High Voltage Festival. He commented on my Lizzy shirt and we discussed the various Lizzy line-ups/classic Lizzy sound as we continued to the basins to wash our hands. Lovely chap!

About 15 years ago I was standing in a large bookshop/newsagent in Kingston marketplace perusing the music mags and, in particular, the bass mags. A tall, middle aged, rockstar-looking chap with a large barrel chest, medallion and a mop of blond hair came and stood next to me picking up a bass mag to read too. He looked familiar but I couldn't place him for some reason..... so we nodded to each other in acknowledgement and continued to flick through our respective magazines until I moved off.... Imagine my shock/regret when a week later I returned to the same magazine rack to peruse the new issue of said bass mag and there he was on the cover!!!! It was only Chris bloody Squire!!!!! Aaarrrghhhh.......

For many years I worked just off of Oxford St in London and would, on occasion, pop into the musical instrument store situated at that time in the basement of Virgin Megastore. On this particular occasion I popped in as they had a shipment of Spectors arrive which included my custom ordered white Euro. A salesman got it ready for me to demo and I sat there playing and enjoying my new purchase when, shortly after, another salesman approached - commenting positively on my playing and the tone of the bass. We had a nice chat about the bass, rock music etc and I thought he looked kinda familiar. He was middle aged and looked like a genuine classic rocker (different from your usual instrument salesman) so I asked if he played and/or gigged much..... "Yeah, I play guitar..... gig occasionally but not so much at the moment though I was in a big band for a while". "Oh, and who was that" I enquired.... Him: "Have you ever heard of Bad Company?" Turns out it was Dave 'Bucket' Colwell.....
-
Booo..... Nick Beggs is only on the Saturday. I'm gigging Saturday so that's ballsed it. Hoping for someone decent on the Sunday.

Drew bought my flightcase guitar stand. Quick payment and easy communications. Recommended!

Love my Vintage Pro! One of the best sub £500 basses I've ever owned :)

NBD! Dingwall DBird Standard... is it blue or is it purple?!
cetera replied to cetera's topic in Bass Guitars
I heard about this two months ago so, although the press release has only just come out, it isn't sudden or unexpected. They've taken the last couple of months working out their way to bypass the issue (slight body shape redesign). If they had just made the occasional Tbird shaped model they would have probably been OK but the DBird was becoming a key line in their range and to Gibson's mind a threat. I'm just glad I got mine when I did and it'll retain its value nicely :)- 33 replies

Electronic Upgrade Suggestions for Spector NS-2000/5

Not really. If your BT has the easy clips you should be able to pretty much drop them in. I prefer to give mine to a proper guitar tech to do though... -
Electronic Upgrade Suggestions for Spector NS-2000/5

If you want the classic Spector sound then I'd say upgrade the neck pickup with an EMG 35P4 and the neck with either a EMG35DC or an EMG35J. Alternatively just put a set of two EMG 35DC pickups in it. http://www.emgpickups.com/bass/extended-series.html Your tone will come alive with these! -
I have the new 4LT in violet fade - Barts/DG make for an awesome punchy/grinding tone!

I saw KISS last night in Birmingham and off to see them for a final time at the O2 in London on Thursday. They were amazing last night - really going out on the top of their game - so can't wait for an emotional last time on Thursday....

I'd need to see a pic to know what bass you're looking at because, to my knowledge holoflash was never an option on the NS2000/4 and NS2000/5 range. I know - I tried to order a holoflash NS2000/4. Sounds to me more like a later Legend thru neck...
-
I have one of these - amazing bass that can cover any sound you want! Mine has since been upgraded with a flashy John East preamp (which sounds monstrous) but the stock version you have is also the dogs danglies :) Thoroughly recommended to anyone wanting a very comfortable, fast neck, do-all styles bass..... GLWTS!

Personally, I perspire heavily from my head so I find a hat both helps with this AND shields my eyes from stage light glare. Also, with my band it's a point of reference/style. Everyone knows who I am, recognises me for it...

.... and very helpful you were too Nige! :)

Yup. I can couch for the fact that they are still one of the hardest working live bands in the business. That stuff weighs a ton!! I'd had enough of wearing it by my mid 40's! 😂

I spent 26+ years in a KISS tribute, wearing many kilos of body armour, 7" stack heeled boots, a mahogany and maple bass, wig, make-up..... I breathed fire and had flames and pyrotechnics going on behind me. All my movements had to be BIG and exaggerated to fit the part I was performing.... Our shows were regularly 2 hours and I used to get VERY hot under such conditions - as you can imagine. I drank copious amounts of water to stay hydrated but I wasn't (still am not) particularly fit - however I have a 6ft 3" solid build and my body is reasonably strong. I was SERIOUSLY knackered after ever show though..... lol!
