  1. Sold an old pedal to Tom. Quick payment and regular comms :) Top man so buy/sell/trade with him with confidence!
  2. It's a straightforward twin vol/tone circuit with EMG pickups.
  3. Yep, these guys are awesome. Check out all their vids - they sound more accurate to the original songs than the current incarnation of Chicago themselves!
  4. Just been watching this again....... live and at their best in 1970 (between 2nd and 3rd albums)
  5. It's all about the Haz Labs pre for me...... it has THE tone I'm after. Quite like a good OBP-3, EMG BTS or tamed Tonepump too......
  6. The filter has spent years missing my tag line under my avatar on the left......
  7. You can.... and you may well be right Cheers!
  8. Yep! Fantastic book! Very honest....
  9. Always loved this..... Chicago at their funkiest! All 3 lead vocalists and Peter Cetera playing an incredibly tasty bassline.....! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ap2zcSbeYQc
  10. Just spotted this thread! I'm a huge Chicago fan - particularly of the amazing bass playing/vocals of Peter Cetera (hence my name on here). For me, he took the best elements of Motown and McCartney basslines and progressed them further in a jazz-rock environment, aided by the fantastic Danny Seraphine on drums. Add the much missed and hugely underrated Terry Kath on guitar (and Ray Charles-esque vocals) and you had imho the FINEST power trio ever in rock! Yes, better than Hendrix/Cream etc..... Further add all the great songs and a kickass horn section and you have the now legendary Chicago 'sound'. Just fantastic!
  11. I've always loved the tight, authoritative low end and grinding, biting top end 80's/90's rock tones of bassists like Eddie Jackson (Queensryche), Rachel Bolan (Skid Row), Kip Winger (Winger), Bruno Ravel (Danger Danger), Pat Badger (Extreme) etc etc. What did they have in common? The classic EMG P/J loaded Spector NS2 bass.... Having found one at the old Bass Centre in Wapping (the good ol' days) and LOVED the sound, feel, and look I then purchased various Spector basses! I was almost there, but there was still something not quite right (playing through Trace Elliot, Peavey, Ampeg, Ashdown etc) in my quest for the exact tone I was looking for.... The missing puzzle piece turned out to be the classic Gallien Krueger 400RB/800RB series heads from that period...... A friend invited me to try my Spector through his 800RB and the quest was complete!! So, to summise..... Active EMG p/J loaded Spector (with roundwounds) through old GK400RB or 800RB head and a suitable full range cab (in my case - currently a GenzBenz 2x12 Neo). Add in a little extra grit when needed from my Tech21 Dug DP3X pedal and I have aural bliss!
  12. I was a lot more offended by the nonsense the bassist played.....!
  13. Cheers! It certainly is that..... and in a good way. The artwork is gorgeous as is the tone!
  14. Sold a pedal to Kevin. Great comms and fast payment. A 'textbook' deal - thanks mate
  15. So, how are we all enjoying it?!? Any fave settings to share?
  16. Not quite - he was a club singer in Manila, Philippines, singing all styles of music including rock songs like Journey....
  17. Yeah.... that's what the JAM tribute say....
  18. True, but only as long as the band are vaguely the same build etc as the originals. A 5ft, 20 stone Gene Simmons does not look good, especially if his bandmates are 6ft 2 and lithe..... It's amazing how many crap looking KISS tributes are out there......
  19. Congrats! I have the exact same bass in 4 string. Love that Mopar purple colour
  20. Back in 1996..... back cover CD picture. Those were the days (pre-balding, belly, etc)
  21. I was a founding member, and spent 26 years, with a KISS tribute band. We wore the full outfits and boots (custom made and VERY expensive), had custom guitars made (and existing guitars customised) and took the musical/vocal/arrangement accuracy very seriously. To me, that's what makes a 'tribute' band, rather than a 'cover' band. I even went as far as to learn firebreathing and we filled our performances with the expected pyrotechnics too.... It all paid off though... We were the first KISS tribute to perform all over Europe & Scandinavia and played numerous international fan conventions too. Over the years we played with, played for and/or appeared with almost all original and latter members of KISS as well as appearing on both of Gene Simmons worldwide TV shows. We performed for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Def Leppard, headlined festivals and launched products (Volvo etc). We also performed at music 'trade shows', played Halloween at the Cafe De Paris in Monaco and toured Japan with The Bootleg Beatles, Counterfeit Stones, T-Rextasy and Royal Family (Queen show), gaining endorsements from Washburn, Ibanez, Cort and Spector along the way.... We even discovered that KISS were keeping up date with our performances and later found that a mid song breakdown/arrangement I had created had been adopted by KISS themselves in their live show! It was very hard work, but great fun and gave me life experiences that will stay with me forever. I also spent spare time in originals bands and cover bands over the years so have seen both sides.... Tribute haters gonna hate...... usually from their bedrooms...... but I guarantee I worked 10 times harder during every 2hr tribute show than haters ever have onstage....
  22. Spent more time fiddling with pedal last night and found some awesome tones! Currently I'm running it into the front of my old GK400RB and/or GK800RB head and getting some huge, solid low end/sparkling grinding top end tones out of it. I even nailed the Eddie Jackson (Queensryche) Mindcrime/Empire era bass tone that has always been my fave. Of course, the Spector and GK I'm using helped with the authenticity The heavily compressed, highly distorted tones are fun but I can see myself using it 95% of the time on lighter settings. Lovely stuff!
  23. The clear out continues.... As I'm barely using some of my basses (due to my Spector love and possibly having some new stuff incoming) I've decided to let a number of them go.... This is a fantastic, frankenstein/bitza 70's style Fender Jazz Bass that I asked the legendary Charlie Chandler to source, assemble and create/set up for me a few years ago using: WD Music Vintage White 3 Piece American Alder body finished in thinly applied polyester to allow the natural tone to ring through AllParts 70's style block/bound Maple board Jazz neck with correct Fender logo pre-included/applied Wizard Custom Jazz Pickups - custom built and handwound by Andy Blake in the UK - do a search through old threads etc to see the high regard these are held in. He has now retired but his work continues with Hot Rod pickups. Gotoh 201B-4 bridge for fantastic solid tone and increased sustain Gotoh Nickel reverse gear 'elephant ear' tuners Pearloid capped controls Pickup cover The bass is in fantastic overall condition with just a paint chip on the front edge being the only real noticeable flaw (my fault due to clumsiness). Hasn't been played in a while so could probably do with a set up etc... It cost over £800 to source, build etc. Gigbag will be included and of course it will be boxed/packed well for delivery. Payment by Bank Transfer (preferred) or Paypal (buyer pays all fees). Please see my extensive positive feedback thread for assurance of a clean, fast and trustworthy transaction.
  24. Decided I need to thin out the herd a little to make way for possible incoming purchases...... it's a hard choice what to let go..... so I do this with sadness/regret and way withdraw at any point.... This is a unique piece.... a real one-off bass. The seller I obtained it from said he discovered it was part of a multi-instrument Japanese Samurai art mural done by artist Takeshi in 1988 and used for Ibanez promotion in Japan. The other mural pieces were believed to include a top of the range Ibanez guitar among other things.... A top of the range example of the Soundgear series it features EMG active pickups/circuit, sharktooth/fin fretboard inlays and heavy duty Ibanez hardware along with deep inset bolt-on neck and the unique artwork illustrated below. As to be expected, the sound is bold, dynamic and punchy and this bass turns heads everywhere it is seen. I'm always being asked about it whenever I play it out....! It has a few scratches and lacquer chips, as to be expected of a bass 30+ years old but nothing major and plays smoothly and accurately across the board. Hard to put a value on this but I believe I have set a fair price for a quality 'top of the range' Japanese instrument with inlays, EMG pickups/circuitry and hand painted unique/original artwork. Will send well packed in a padded gigbag within boxing etc. Payment by bank transfer (preferred) or Paypal (buyer pays fees). Please see my extensive positive feedback thread for assurance of a clean, fast and trustworthy transaction.
  25. *SOLD* Found this in my lock up - hasn't been used in years but I remember it having some awesome grit/overdrive tones. Shame to see it sitting unused so offering it here. Has a few scratches/scrapes as to be expected from pedalboard use but in full working condition and still with original box/instructions. Asking a bargain £30 posted. Payment by bank transfer (preferred) or Paypal (buyer pays all fees). Please see my extensive positive feedback thread for assurance of a clean, fast and trustworthy transaction.
