  1. I love my Spectors! I love the sleek shape, the ergonomic belly curve, the solid build, the finishing quality, the attention to detail, the comfortable neck, the history, the customer service/support, the crown inlays and the range of solid, authoritative & USABLE tones
  2. Yeah, but he only needed 4.....
  3. Of those two Spector fretless basses I've only ever tried the Spectorcore and was mighty impressed. Lovely woody tone and lightweight to boot....
  4. A stunner! Congrats& enjoy!
  5. Oh, come on! That's hardly fair...!! I've only got 70 so far!
  6. I've got my perfect rig for my preferred sound/main projects: Spector US/Euro basses thru old GK800RB and a Genz Neo212T ....so I'm not searching for that 'elusive tone' so much. For me now it's about collecting, enjoying owning and playing other basses that I've always fancied..... or having ones that are more suitable for other gigging situations e.g. old Fender P with flats
  7. SSD - NS94 model. VERY nice! They were a great precursor to the NS2000/4 model that followed when Stuart got the Spector name back. Congrats!
  8. Is that a euphemism?
  9. It sounds simple but you know what I believe really appeals to people? A band who are having a good time and can communicate that to the audience and then feed back off the energy the audience sends back in return. Of course there are exceptions - whinge rock like Radiohead etc but there are exceptions to every rule in life. Music will always sound better if you have the required level of chops to execute it to the level it deserves/requires..... but a smile and an element of 'personality' or 'charisma' surely helps sell it.
  10. I always thought his playing sounded like he was falling down the stairs with his bass. I do hope he hasn't. Nice bloke and all that....
  11. Thankfully not...... my ears have been a lot happier this year!
  12. For me - my fave part is always catching up with old friends and fellow board members. To that end it was most satisfying Bass-wise, little gave me gas (which is always a good thing!). I love seeing all the beautiful exotic wood/shape luthier basses but I'd never buy one as £4k for a bass that is so unique it would be worth £1K on the used market the next day just doesn't appeal..... worse than new car/used car depreciation.... Enjoyed the Spector stand - the new Ltd Editon Euro SE LX basses were divine with their Koa-topped looks, but I was disappointed that they had neither the Timbre acoustic or Rudy Sarzo Sims-loaded Euro available in time for the show. Bass Direct had some fab basses as always - the Dingwalls were quite something and I had a lovely chat with Sheldon Dingwall too. What a nice chap! In fact, delayed GAS for their Dbird (felt, played and sounded awesome) may just have taken hold of me.... Amp-wise, nothing took my fancy - which is fine as I've never been happier than with my current amp set up. Phew! Volume-wise I felt it was better than previous years - less slappers, though I agree that the Eich/Darkglass stalls were unnecessarily loud at times. I only took in one seminar as I was busy chatting to friends etc... and that was Guy Pratt. Brilliantly funny as usual but I was disappointed it was the same comedy routine I saw on his recent tour. I thought he would actually be doing a bass seminar discussing technique, displaying his famous lines in full etc.... oh well - a missed opportunity maybe.... Same time next year?!
  13. If you loved it so much why didn't you just swap out the preamp for something else?
  14. I'm between Woking and Guildford. Thanks for offer but I'm aiming to head up to Clapham Jct on train and then take the train/bus to Olympia...
  15. Yep, same here. On Surrey/Hants border...... and intending to come up early Saturday morning. Hopeful of a quieter (in numbers AND slapping noise!) show this year so I can enjoy it more
  16. Great basses, very well made and tight focused tones. However, if you really want a ReBop or Euro 5LX then I would suggest saving a little longer. One will come up and you should be able to get an ex-condition used Euro for £800-£900.
  17. Yup! I was already gonna take my own lunch - might have to take a flask too!!! lol!
  18. Ah Martin - I was just about to recommend the old 800RB when I saw your kind words. I still have your amp - fantastic! Well worth looking an old one up - but they're rare as hens teeth... Otherwise - I too would recommend a GK700RB or a Genzler Magellan..... and maybe a Tech21 VTbass pedal.
  19. Welcome into the light Monsieur Krow!!
  20. I wouldn't take that as reason to buy. You need to try them out first..... I almost bought a Big Twin II but tried it side by side against my GenzBenz Neox212 and the Barefaced came out 2nd best. A good friend and respected bass journalist/reviewer was with me and also felt the same.... saved me silly money in an unnecessary outlay! I don't say this to 'hate' on Barefaced - they're great. Just be sure to try any cab before buying as it may not be the step up you're looking for, or even need!
  21. Barnes & Mullins. They'll be at the London Bass Show in a couple of weeks time....
  22. RRP on this is £679 but shop price is more like £589. As it's all but mint you should try for £400.
  23. Ah yes...... Played Spectors for 25+ years and, for me, they are by far the best basses (sound/feel/looks/value for money) at every price point.
