I reckon they’ll always be desirable/collectible, whether or not it will be quite as much as currently is another matter. I started playing in Dec 1980 so have always thought about a Precision made then, but given the prices doubtful I’ll ever do anything about it.

Whilst we never managed 100 a year, 50 was enough when all over the country & Europe, I still shudder at my 2018 work-load too. Combining 50 long-distance gigs a year with a full-time job and being in my mid 50s was just too much, something had to break, and it was me!

Handing out cctv footage is now covered by GDPR, not sure how long this has been the case though.

My first "real" band. 1990 to 1991 - Blackreign, rock band, gigged extensively over the country, couple of singles/videos released. 1996 to 1997 - Sorted, punk covers band, gigged locally. * 2001 to 2003 - SCAMM, songs of the day covers band, gigged locally. 2003 to 2009 - The Gorgeous Heroes, sleaze-rock band, morphed from SCAMM, gigged locally. ** 2009 to 2013 - The Daves, punk covers band, gigged locally. 2011 to 2013 - The Tuesday Club, originals punk/indie/odd band, gigged all over the country, one album & couple of singles released. 2013 to 2020 - Knock Off, originals street-punk/Oi band, gigged extensively over UK and Europe, four albums and three EPs released . 2020 to now - Thunderkunt, classic rock covers, no singer, no intention of getting one, or of doing gigs 2021 to now - The Spacewasters, originals punk/psychobilly band, been going for 16 years, currently working on a 2nd album.

When we toured I used Hiscox cases (also used them for going in the hold on planes), they certainly protect the instruments and in comparison to the Fender hard cases seem a lot stronger as often you see Fender cases with damage, not so often with Hiscox.

I think I could adapt to all sorts of restrictions on my left fretting hand, but put a bass on me left handed and I’d be all over the place.

I’ll be cancelling my subscription then, I’m def a “wait at the door” kinda guy. It’s a real pleasure not knowing exactly when it will appear, and then when it does sitting down with a cuppa and reading all things low-end. Plus finding where @Doodhas managed to place his immortal “shut your pie-hole” line in his article is all part of the fun.

I’d say a Jazz is always worth having, but for rock maybe a bass with P/J pickups might be worth checking out.

Guns N Roses and AC/DC, in my youth they were far too bluesy for my tastes. I kick myself for my stupidity.

Makes very good sense on both counts.

I had a 4 string Fender Deluxe Active Jazz (US version) which I could coax pretty much anything from, not sure if they do a fiver but if so that’s where I’d start my search. I’d say similar with an HH Stingray. Edit - an outsider might be a Yamaha 735. And that £750 for an amp - Ashdown ABM600.

Ergonomically and looks-wise I love them, and if I didn`t just expect to hear a Precision when I`m playing the `Ray would be the ideal bass for me. But anything other than a Precision sound in a band when I`m playing just sounds wrong to me and I can`t relax into it. Shame as I find the quality of them to be superior to the Precision, and when set up to my preference I find them easier to play too.
