  1. I’d obviously, as a huge fanboy say yes, you def need a Fender. But objectively unless there’s something you feel that’s lacking with your current basses the logical me says no.
  2. Best Les Pauls many of my mates have played were also Tokais.
  3. When it affects the performance to the point where if it were a show where people were paying to see it it would be unfair to take their money.
  4. Agree I’ve owned & played many different types of Precisions and to me the US ones really do have something extra.
  5. Definitely, in my last band we gigged pretty much every weekend, sometimes twice, yet still rehearsed weekly pretty much to cover as above. OK it was “only” Punk/Oi music, but to us people paying their hard-earned deserved the best we could deliver. Too many variables at gigs to rely on those as the only playing experience, rehearsals needed.
  6. I love gigging, love the being on stage bit, but recently have found that I seem to find rehearsals more overall fun. It’s probably down to not having to hang around for ages both waiting to go on, then afterwards waiting for the other bands to finish before finally packing up & going home. So I suppose it’s more that what I really like is playing music, whether with an audience or not.
  7. Great shame, was lucky enough to catch him & Norm on the bill as support for The Stranglers a few years back. Bags of energy and supremely good musicianship.
  8. Pink
  9. And after a bit of thought and tinkering I’ve now gone back to my Dunlop Ultex 1mm Triangle picks. I just enjoy playing my bass with these more than any others, and primarily I play for enjoyment.
  10. Looks good to me, might well make the trip over for this
  11. Looks great Bruce
  12. That Stingray got a thrashing in that. Agree though, much better band than many gave credit for.
  13. Holy thread resurrection! I’ve got a set of D’Addario nickel strings that came on a bass, any ideas how I can tell which they are @D'AddarioUK as I really like them? Sound wise they really work on this Precision, seem to be a really well balanced overall tone, not too middy (which nickels on a Precision can sometimes be) and the low-end is tight without being at all boomy - probably tighter than the low-end on my Elixir steel rounds. Probably should mention that the E is tapered if any help.
  14. Great sounds WOT, like the bass of yesteryear when it was in the mix rather than a boom underneath it. Me like big time!
  15. Nothing wrong with doing songs from that era DD, some great songs back then and a lot of fun to play them.
  16. I’d suggest something with a valve in it if you’ve not got a valve amp, say a Dave Hall VT if you can source one. What a great sound though.
  17. Having been in a band with someone similar my way of dealing now is if I’m unfortunate enough to end up in a band with someone like this I will leave and fully explain my reasons why. If the rest of the band stay with them they’re welcome to them. If they decide my way is preferable and that they would like to reform with me then great. I won’t work with people like that anymore, wasted too long that one time, never again.
  18. Not sure if this is already done but: Rickenbacker - Introduce a "Made in Mexico" or Squier/Epiphone type range
  19. Ashdown - an ABM preamp/DI pedal, lose the sub-thingy. Elixir - start making 50-105 gauge steel rounds again.
  20. I use stainless steel Elixirs. They’re not as bright as uncoated steels (think week old steels sort of sound) but I get almost a year out of them.
  21. I’m pretty much the same, get a thinner, twangier on stage sound than I’d like and it usually translates to a sound which out front sits in with the band nicely.
  22. My old band The Tuesday Club
  23. I do know, too many for my needs, not enough for my wants
  24. I like the Ampeg Scrambler as it doesn’t really change your tone, just adds in drive.
  25. Complete Control was one of my faves when doing punk covers too, Dave.
