  1. Well I’ve just made the decision to gig Mexican made Fender Precisions. The band I gig with does those venues where there’s never enough proper storage space to leave the gear lying around so rather than take my US ones along and be paranoid about them all evening I’ll gig the MIMs (2 in my Mono Dual M80). Not that I don’t care about them, just that they’re not worth as much. Perfectly fine for gigging and if anyone thinks I’m a lesser bassist so what!
  2. CGI to encourage next years ticket sales……
  3. I think it was a B.C., nice to see one of those out and about
  4. And def puts to bed the “woolly Ashdown” doubters.
  5. Congrats, I’m sure you’ll love it once played “in anger”. They sound good no matter what, but as above when played loud the depth to them is evident, and very pleasing.
  6. No specific experience in that but if it’s likely to go up in value unless you either need the space or cash keep it, chances are you’ll get a better increase than you would if the money was invested.
  7. I suppose I`ve been lucky, but having purchased from PMT (Bristol & Northampton), Coda (Luton & Stevenage), Giggear (Harlow) plus numerous other standalones such as The Music Dept in St Albans I`ve never encountered any of these horror stories.
  8. And worked very well together indeed
  9. And to answer the actual question, yes it bothers me quite a bit. I can understand some people not being able to spell, but this in most cases is being unable to copy what is written.
  10. I’m quite fend of my Fonder
  11. That probably made his day @mikel, nice one, of course the artists get the praise when the gig is good but as this thread is showing there’s a lot more to it than that.
  12. In my mind I’m leaping & running all over the stage, whereas in reality I’m shuffling around it so I out prowling as that’s quite slow & steady.
  13. Wasn`t The Empress Ballroom was it Paul, the sound in there is usually pretty rotten imo.
  14. If I used that song as a marker I`d throw all my basses away as I can`t play it 🤣
  15. It can sometimes be the artists at fault too. Many years ago I went to see Hanoi Rocks and the first 4 songs were just this wash of echo & modulation to the point where I could hardly make out what they were. At that point someone from side stage went over to the guitarist and probably said something to the effect of "turn off your shytboxeffectpedal" as from then on the sound was awesome.
  16. Really nice production, gives a really nice ambience in the track
  17. Yep, if the solo is over the same pattern as a verse or chorus just do the same as what’s already played. If the solo is over a purpose written pattern then play what makes the solo instrument sound best.
  18. In Chas Hodges (of Chas & Dave) book he wrote about this, and said that at their sound-checks they got the vocals right first, then added in everything else underneath it so that the vocals always stood out clearly. He did say that a few times they had to advise the sound people that pretty much no-one ever went home from a Chas & Dave gig complaining that they couldn`t hear the bass drum properly, but a few times people had complained they couldn`t hear the vocals, so from then on that was how they worked, they vocals/lyrics being more important than any of the accompanying/supporting instruments. Which is directly opposite to pretty much every sound check I`ve ever done, where probably more time was spent on the level of the kick drum than on (all of) the vocals. Ok, yes, it was punk, but even our vomit should be heard clearly!
  19. It’s funny isn’t it, as I went to see The Professionals last year and the sound was easily the best I’ve heard at any gig ever. So it’s not new technology/gear to blame, solely the ears of the people doing the sound. Maybe a lot of these bands as well as having sound-people should have some sort of road manager who can simply say “that sounds awful, sort it”.
  20. Yep, at 15 I was wearing Dr Martens & Fred Perrys and playing bass in punk bands. Fast forward 40 years and there has been zero development/progression, still wearing DMs & Freds, still playing bass in punk bands.
  21. I keep looking at those JMJs, at some point I’m sure I’ll end up with one.
  22. It’s the modern phenomenon that many sound engineers seem to need to do, ensure that the kick drum completely obliterates the whole of the rest of the mix. I’m yet to work out why.
  23. Yep I did think he must have looked terribly old fashioned with his dinosaur rig to some - but I bet he doesn’t give a hoot, and neither do I, I’d love to play through a rig like that.
