Out of all of those I’d keep the full Ashdown setup, more versatile & powerful.

Stereophonics on BBC2 at moment, a gig from Cardiff, really good, thoroughly enjoying it. -
A good set up, plus maybe look at either 45-100 or 50-105 gauge strings maybe. I find that these gauges suit me much better for the same reasons.

I’m very tempted by one of these myself, I’ve had a few Stingrays in the past but the ash/maple combination has proved a bit “bright” for me, thinking that mahogany/rosewood would be a better pairing. @BassAdder27 how do you find the general sound compared to your Precisions?
-
That used to happen to us occasionally, singer/guitarist would go off on not necessarily the next song on the set list. Usually not a problem and I only pulled him up on it once, at our first appearance at Rebellion, and only then because the drummer was suffering with a migraine that day, didn’t want us all starting different songs at such a big gig. He made a joke of it at the time so luckily all was well.

I’m really envious, would love to play in a good AC/DC band.

Def Roqsolid - they’ll have your cab listed on there Gerry, as I had them make one for the one I had.

Yep, the nearest I got was how our producer advised, get an amp that sounds tubey-ish (in my case an Aguilar Tonehammer at the time) set your sound as usual then add in the Sansamp with everything at midday. Quite a few people asked me if our recording was done on an SVT. But other than that I think the same, it’s more the Sansamp sound than anything.

It’s nice to have a bass that takes care of its hygiene

They’re in their prime at the moment….

And he’ll probably argue his point by saying that he’s still alive which proves it, I know, sadly, and to my shame I’ve been there (in my much younger years) and would have had the same attitude.

The wife just agreed to me buying a new bass

Very nice -
It’s great when people at that level take the time to advise on gear etc, well done to him.

Really like that Tim, if there’s an album on CD format on the way let me know when it’s out please. Great bass sound too, btw, the Ric really works on that track.

The V4B/SVT212 is fine in big gigs with PA support. The bassist in a punk band I know quite well, Razors, has this set up and she never struggles for volume. She’s a traditionalist, has to play Fender Precision & Ampeg.

Agree, bringing out a new product, especially a new series of such a well known/loved range as the ABM amps there def should a product demo video ready & waiting for launch day. From what I understand the guy who used to do GAK product demos is now with Ashdown, use his talents on this.

He does live a fairly healthy life nowadays, think he’s had to admit to himself the time for wild living has passed. I just hope that when I’m that age I’ll still have the enthusiasm and energy that he has.

Why not look at the Ampeg SCR-DI? It’s a great bit of kit and delivers Ampeggy goodness into whatever rig you already have. For the grind you just add in the scrambler section. I really like these pedals, it’s just instant Ampeg in a small box - ideal if your amp is quite clean when set flat. SVT3 is a nice sounding amp, but quite heavy & due to size a bit awkward to cart about too so would get in the way of the one-trip load-in. I couldn’t get any kind of grind from it though. PFs are nice sounding for cleans but could never get that lovely grind from them either.

Need a fill in cab.... lightweight, pub giggable 2x10 or 1x12
Lozz196 replied to RichardH's topic in Amps and Cabs
From the new options listed I’d go for the Markbass 102P, purely down to it being two speaker cones so moving more air. All of the brands mentioned are good but I think this one would handle being a standalone cab better. I had one of the Ampeg 210AV cabs and whilst it sounded great, due to its very small size I wouldn’t have wanted to gig it on its own. -
Same for me, and happened on this by accident. As above at a sound check got a great onstage sound, went out front and was confronted by the boomy mush, so adjusted eq with bass down/mids up, sounded pretty rotten onstage, sounded excellent out front. This was in a covers band where backline covered the whole venue, so no FOH.
