  1. I’d be willing to bet that learned the person who made that comment
  2. Punk was great, I’m a major Pistols fan (was 11 in 1977) and to be honest the behaviour & yobbishness wasn’t what excited me, it was the sounds and the look. I’m pretty sure if I’d been 5 years older I’d have been a major Bowie fan.
  3. The only festival I’ve really been to is Rebellion, the punk festival that takes place in Blackpools Winter Gardens every year. Looking at this years line up it doesn’t seem to be much different to the norm.
  4. Those were my feelings when I had one, Dave, good quality basses. If I didn’t have this mental hoodoo about having to play US Fenders the Players would be more than enough for my needs. Only negative thing I’d say is quality control, I had one, which was bought 2nd hand off EBay, ordered two others online and had to return them as there were a couple of issues on the necks (bulges).
  5. Bolt on, just makes me think easier to sort in case of a breakage.
  6. And quite predictably I’ve changed my mind - again! I’m a maple Precision guy, I just find playing the maple neck on a Precision more enjoyable so I’m sticking, as such my signature bass is a black/black/maple US Fender Precision (good job I’ve got 3 then).
  7. Phil Lynott also apparently stuck around frets 5 to 8 when playing from what I’ve read. Whether or not it’s true I don’t know as never tried to learn any TL material.
  8. I used to be the same with Rotosounds but found it a tad expensive so switched to Warwick Reds, got nearly 3 months from them before they dulled down too much.
  9. Classic case of reacting on the offensive rather than listening & learning re the points stated. As is ever, better dodged at this point than later on.
  10. Probably his awareness that if he’s playing low once the guitar solos there’s a bit of a gap, whereas playing up a bit that gap isn’t quite so pronounced. Clever chap John Deacon, I watched some of it too and was impressed when it came to said solos how it didn’t seem to empty out.
  11. Shame though must admit he was older than I thought, I reckoned on them all being about 5 years older than me so early 60s.
  12. They’re not set up vertically Bill……
  13. The Precisions that I’ve played with 44mm (Road Worn & Classic 50s) nut width have been shallower/flatter in depth, so not too bad, the Road Worn especially was very easy to play even with dreaded music shop setup.
  14. I’d have an Ashdown ABM1200 & matching 810. I’ve played big stages with the traditional SVT/810 set up and whilst it can all go through the monitors I don’t like that, I prefer the sound from the bass behind me and just vocals & guitar in the monitors. So on a big stage I prefer a rig I can hear on its own merit.
  15. Like todays ripped jeans. Where authentic ripped jeans might have one knee out todays ones look like a pack of Rottweilers have given them the good news.
  16. Get the same cab again. Whilst different pairings can sound great having two of the same means no need to re-eq if only using one cab, say at smaller gigs or rehearsals. Whereas with 2 different cabs chances are each will sound different on its own.
  17. Yep, as much as I love listening to many different genres and learning different songs playing a great gig is where I get the most enjoyment, followed by a great rehearsal, studio work is third on my list.
  18. I had one of the Ray34s when they came out about 10 years ago. I bought it as backup to an EBMM Stingray, and aside from its newness and (very) slightly toppier sound it was difficult to tell them apart playing wise.
  19. Well I found the pickup in the 09 range to be quite scooped so not sure it would bring out the best of flats. Although I’m a rounds player I still swapped out the pickup in my 08 to a Tonerider, which sounds very much like Fender Custom Shop 62s, but at a third of the price. So really I’d go for whichever Precision feels best to play, put on your fave flats then if there’s anything lacking in the sound look at a possible pickup or string change, changing one or both of these can make a lot of difference. And no, nothing wrong with having another US Precision just for flats.
  20. I loved Velvet Revolver but agree that Scott Weiland let them down, sadly his demons got the better of him as well.
  21. I’ve never got on very well with the sound of them when I play them, but I think they sound amazing when played by those who know how to get the best from them. I do however find them pretty much the most comfortable bass to play from all the basses I’ve played, the design just fits so well, just with I could make them sound good.
