  1. That`s how I found - and stuck with - Ashdown, by a moment of serendipity. My preferred sound had been established by playing through an Ampeg SVT & 810, and no matter what gear I bought I couldn`t get that "slam" to the sound. But at one gig the provided rig was an Ashdown set-up, an ABM head with 2x15 cab. I`d never used Ashdown before so plugged my gear in, got a sound I liked and we started to play. And I developed that inside grin, the one that happens where you just get that wallop in your back from the sound of the bass, a feeling much like that Ampeg stack delivered. So by accident I`d found gear that would do what I wanted. Sure it was bigger & heavier than what I was using at the time (Aguilar Tonehammer & Barefaced Big Twin) but it was still doable.
  2. Agree, no idea why this gets my goat so much but it just does.
  3. Had some more work done by Gary, an electrics issue that I simply had no idea where to start with. Fortunately a spin round the M25/A10 solved everything, cheers Gary.
  4. I’ve actually got nothing planned for any live bands now. Went to see SLF last night and it was great so am gonna have to start scouring the gigs for ones to go to.
  5. Foos live in Austin currently on Sky Arts, reaffirming what a good band they are live and what a great drummer Taylor was.
  6. For me it’s not the songs it’s the production, I find their recorded material to be a bit “sterile” sounding compared to their live versions. Live I think they’re great, more than happy to watch a live gig on TV.
  7. I’ve recently realised, after buying/selling pedals (which has been fun btw) that I’m just a preamp/DI & tuner guy. So I follow the same principle as Doddy, no pedalboard and just take whichever I’ll be using for whichever band.
  8. Same for me, Precisions. Which is really dumb considering that the sounds of all my fave players were made on Precisions and I was trying to get similar tones. Doh!
  9. I’d reckon that the V4B & SVT212 is the ideal “in the middle” for what you’ve described. Apparently the SVT212 is Ampegs nearest sounding cab to the 810. Other than Ampeg, well an Ashdown ABM set up would also do it - the ABM600 is a very flexible amp and easily does the felt as well as heard thing. Combined with an ABM410 that’s plenty. You’d be adding weight with the cab but losing it with the amp - and cabs can be put on castors!
  10. Same for me, absolutely amazing live and Taylor was a powerhouse.
  11. Now Sold Pedaltrain Nano in very good condition including carry bag. Nice little pedalboard for the essentials. Can fit 3 or 4 pedals depending on size (I had Ampeg SCRDI, Keeley Bassist & TC Polytune Mini on there no problems). £35 including delivery in UK
  12. Now Sold TC Electronic Polytune Noir Mini Great little tuner to maximise space on your pedalboard, in very good condition (Velcro on bottom) comes boxed. £50 including delivery in UK
  13. Now Sold One Keeley Bassist Compressor up for grabs. Highly rated, very transparent compression, in very good condition (Velcro on bottom) boxed with instructions. £110 including delivery within UK.
  14. I used to have an LM3 and it seemed to work really well with a Sansamp, although they’re a warm sounding amp I find them to be pretty flat & neutral sounding. I’m not really up to speed re using fx loops as per@Downunderwonders post, maybe worth trying on the Ashdown before moving it on?
  15. I’ve never been a real fan of RHCP, got a few albums, but these latest tracks just sound, well mature is probably the best way I can describe them. Probably well thought out songs but they just seem to fade into the background. But then I suppose they probably don’t want to just write their earlier material all over again.
  16. Markbass are quite neutral sounding, and take pedals nicely
  17. I’m off to see them in The Roundhouse, London tomorrow, had the tickets for over 2 years now.
  18. Depends on how far the gig was, usually it would be either chocolate & Red Bull or a McDs Quarterpounder With Cheese Meal with coffee.
  19. Def, I was quite taken aback when I heard some of John Deacons isolated tracks. In the mix his sound is big/warm/rounded, isolated I thought was gainy/scratchy/trebly.
  20. Yep, 4 gigging Precisions: 3 x black/tort/rosewood 1 x black/white/rosewood The last one is a cheap Squier, off the shelf £12 pickguards don’t fit and for a £100 bass I’m not spending £50 on a custom made one.
