  1. I’d def keep the one with the black plate as it is, love that 70s type burst!
  2. Although Simenon was good imo Glen Matlock of The Sex Pistols was by far a better bassist, his lines on the early recordings show great ability.
  3. Yeah I’ve found that flats just don’t have the top end that I need for rock. I do have a set of Chromes that I’ll try at some point though, they came on a Precision I bought and they play really nicely so maybe with a re-eq on the amp I can get there.
  4. Stadium Stack & Southern Jam sound great
  5. Every time I`ve tried flats I like them for a while, then realise I miss the clarity & top-end of rounds. I`ve tried all the usual supsects re brightest flats and none of them work out. I suppose if I were a Jazz/Stingray/active-bass player flats would work fine for me, but as I`m a Precision man through & through I can`t get what I need from them.
  6. My main basses are all the same value, only the backups are cheaper. There is a difference in quality but not as much as the price tags would suggest.
  7. Can this thread be renamed to Royal Mail Return Centre please?
  8. For sure, if making a focal/selling point over it. I know The Ramonas, great band and great girls, the concept really works imo, what I was meaning was if trying to get as near in looks to the original band as possible for a tribute then many people just don`t fit the look/image. I remember seeing Bjorn Again, and the look, sound, everything was great. I sadly never saw ABBA but they were as near as I think possible to be. It wouldn`t have been so good imo if they hadn`t looked so near to how ABBA had looked.
  9. That`s a very good point, for some I can see reasons, if doing tribute bands: No women in the band - ZZ Top tribute No blacks in the band - Brotherhood of Man or ABBA tribute No whites in the band - Drifters tribute No Asians in the band - the three above No LGBT in the band - can`t see any reason here No non-Brits in the band - can`t see any reason here No over-25s in the band - depends on era of tribute No under 60s in the band - as above Etc. But to me unless there`s a specific image then choosing the right person is a much more difficult thing thing to get right. I know a good few Oi bands which have black guys playing for them. Many people think of Oi as being right-wing, some of the bands are but fortunately many aren`t, these guys were chosen as much for the decent guys that they are as for their musicianship, if you`re spending a lot of time with people in a band choosing good people is paramount. Sometimes a better point to focus on than how they wield their axe.
  10. If I were still in a band playing big venues I’d probably grab a pair of these, the form factor of them makes a lot of sense imo.
  11. Another pedal that needs a PSU! With many gigs spare plug sockets are a luxury.
  12. If someone has a certain image in their head of the band they want to create, and can explain it properly then fair play, up to them who they want in their band. When I left my last band there would have been many people unsuitable to replace me, irrespective of ability, just due to image. But if that’s not explained properly, and just lumped in the “they never carry the gear” or “the guitarist will just end up going out with them and splitting the band up” well that’s story telling of the future and I’d be wary. Sure that may have happened in the past but how does that have anything to do with future personnel.
  13. The benefits of the MS60B are that there are a few compressors on there to choose from. I’ve had a few compressors, MXR M87, Keeley Bassist, Seymour Duncan Studio, Rothwell Love Squeeze. My fave, and the one I’ve bought again recently is the Keeley, it’s really easy to set and doesn’t colour the sound.
  14. Same here, Duff is one of my faves, love his tone/playing yet when I get that tone it just sounds “wrong”.
  15. One of our very own had one of the 210s of this range. I can’t comment about efficiency or loudness but it did sound nice paired with the Orange Terror.
  16. That’s what I was thinking, similar happened to me using a GK MB500 a few years back, instead of pushed into breakup it sounded like the speaker was being slammed.
  17. Reading this part I`d say this is the one to keep: 2002 MIJ 62 RI Black Jazz bass, now with US pickups etc - my absolute favourite bass to play (and look at) - I don't think I'd ever find another as good and with such a perfect neck.... not a massive amount of money in it either.......it's a beaut. Sometimes it`s not the one that costs the most which actually has the most value, value being its meaning to the owner in this case.
  18. I`ve got the 2012 remastered version of NMTB, Paul, and the bass is higher up in the mix, so much better for in the car. It`s still very much a supporting role rather than cut-through but a lot more powerful, the guitars also seems less "middy" which probably helps with the bass a bit as well. Re SLF/Inflammable Material, totally get that, the versions on All The Best are much better to my ears, though still rather tinny. Out of all their albums (first time round) I like Nobodys Heroes the best, Ali had a great bass tone on that.
  19. I recall seeing a photo of a keyboard which had a big piece of paper sellotaped at the left end with "You have a bassist" written on it.
  20. I think there’s clearly audible, such as Bruce Foxtons work with The Jam, or there’s it’s clearly there but playing a more foundation type role such as what Steve Jones did on Never Mind The Bollocks by The Sex Pistols. Both have their place imo.
  21. On my Precisions I generally turn the tone down to about 80% if I want a softer/less sharp sound. Not exact but pretty much there.
