  1. You need to tell “Yo Mickey Bubble” in a fake New York Mafia accent at least 42 times throughout the evening to make it more bearable.
  2. I have to say I am surprised by this. Just shows too how letting our ears contribute to making decisions on instruments is something we shouldn`t ignore.
  3. It`s funny that seeing as my fave bassists are known for their runs and intricate lines that, although I can play stuff like that, I prefer to sit in the groove and lock with the drums. But then thinking about it, as I`m a "cat person" as in someone who is happy to remain still for 16hrs and only move when I have the need to eat or urinate maybe it`s not that unexpected after all.
  4. I sense Nicola Freedom has been at work
  5. No, even on full it’s nowhere near a full-on drive. The way I’d describe it is you know when you hear isolated bass tracks from people such as John Deacon, those which sound clean & full in the mix, but isolated there’s that gritty/gainy sound to them, well that’s how the Spark works. Nothing like Lemmy or anything, just a hair on the sound to stop it being completely clean.
  6. Dave bought a Precision from me. Given the slightly iffy situation with couriers we did a meet halfway, with the predictable chat about basses etc. Great comms throughout the transaction.

    GILLY

Bought a compressor from Will, good comms and fast delivery.
  8. Bought a Sansamp from Rory. Great comms and arrived swiftly.
  9. TC Electronic Spark Booster. Not just saying that because I’m selling one, it’s cos it hits the nail exactly on the head of what you describe - do a search on T***bass for opinions on it.
  10. Another thing to think about on the three piece thing is that the bass wasn’t today’s deep down bass, with the bass frequencies being higher. Coupling this with the natural valve drive and the same busy playing as in verses there was less separation of sounds. Whilst I love the scooped Sansamp sound it certainly noticed when a solo starts if there’s only one guitar, suddenly there’s nothing in the middle.
  11. I find the first bass sounds slightly brighter. Given that I’d say that was the Squier, but this based upon my own basses where the Squiers have been toppier than their US cousins.
  12. We had to submit a set list occasionally here, and at every gig overseas. But never any money.
  13. I forgot to mention on my original post, as well as setting the pickups the way I did I also used nickel rounds rather than steels, gave a warmer/fatter tone.
  14. Your other basses are a bit more “muscular” in tone Tim, so that could be why your wife is of the opinion that the Jazz is lacking in comparison.
  15. This question is something I repeatedly encounter in my own never ending bass buying then moving on circle. I buy a Jazz or a Stingray, then think it’s a waste of money as I won’t play it in a band so feel guilty for having them. I’ve finally come to the realisation that the sound of Stingrays just isn’t for me, so can put them to rest once & for all, but I do like Jazzes. I can afford one and playing bass is my hobby so why do I feel so guilty about wanting to buy them?
  16. Yep, those Black Widow speakers were great, I had a Peavey 115 with one in and it was a great cab, if slightly impractical for a second floor flat.
  17. Now Sold One SKB Bass Safe in good condition, comes with a Brandoni gig bag that fits in the bass safe. I bought this in case of overseas gigs but I’ve just got too much gear hanging around so will just use my trusty Hiscox case and move this on. £115 collected or on meet up, I’ve no way of posting this. Photos to come
  18. Now Sold So, I’ve been on a quest to build the right pedalboard for my needs (great fun btw) finally found it, so am having a clear out as below, all items fully working: MXR M81 Good condition, boxed £105 delivered in UK
  19. I’ve just joined a new band, 1st gig last night. I stick with the drummer and have had a good few comments about how I hold the band together. I’ve tinkered with adding a few runs in, but for me it’s understanding the space where to do it. I don’t want to get in the way of the singer, who has a great voice, no point in doing it where the lead guitar is playing a riff/melody associated with the song, and not when the drummer does a roll. There is still the space fit me to add stuff and I do, but I think it is self confidence/awareness to play where I can, not what I can.
  20. First gig with my new band, The Spacewasters last night. At a charity fund raiser for cancer in The Fiddlers Elbow in Camden. Seeing as our drummer has had two brain tumours, and had a kidney removed, and still had cancer of the renal gland it was close to the bands heart. Got there 5ish as had to work, fortunately there was a backstage room to store the gear whilst we waited til our slot at 6:30. Went on, provided amp stack of Genz Benz Streamliner with matching 410/115, so all I had to use was trusty Precision & Sansamp. Went really well, didn’t feel nervous at all, was just so happy to be back gigging. Lots of compliments afterwards about how my playing held the band together which was nice. I had a blast, I’m back!
  21. I could only get 4 out of those Eurythmics Kate Bush Duran Duran New York Dolls Edit - Reading further posts I obviously missed seeing Dolly Parton on there, so would add her in too.
  22. This might seem like a strange solution to hearing things, but what about a good set of ACS ear plugs? Mind bring the volume of the whole (very loud) band down to a really comfortable level where I can hear every note from every instrument.
