  1. Nice gear to start out on @Gramski, welcome to the forum
  2. So I`m after a fairly neutral sounding preamp/DI pedal. Has to: Be able to be switched on/off and sound still come from the instrument (unlike my Ashdown OriginAl which is either on or no sound). Run on batteries. And ideally have high frequencies no lower than 5kHz. So what`s out there, Tech21 gear as much as I love it is too "flavoured" on the sound, MXR M80 & TC Spectradrive weren`t to my liking.
  3. TC Spark Booster, new rounds and dig in hard. I think much of that sound is how it`s played, as @Downunderwonder says. I`d bet if that bass with the same gear was played softly there wouldn`t be a smidging of overdrive heard.
  4. Def, sounds like a decent chap. I`m quite happy to "go rounds" with my mates but they say we all get one round each then they stick together as expecting me to drink 8 to 10 pints of diet coke over a night is pretty unreasonable (I think I`d combust), plus as you say @ubit there is a lot of difference in cost. I`m not fussed over a drink each but a whole evening, well I`d be bankrupt at todays prices.
  5. Love that, I wonder if it’s just bassists that when they hear that song they listen more to the bass than the singer?
  6. Yep, thought re-training camps alive & well in the UK, most commonly known as the workplace 🤣
  7. He’s the one in the yellow jacket standing next to the bloke in red trousers…,
  8. Thing about Coldplay is that although the music is pretty bland & insipid their songs are easily identifiable and can be hummed along to easily. I’m not a fan at all but I think there’s more to them than the blandness would suggest.
  9. Yes the manuals state to do it, and it`s one of those situations where strangely enough reading the manual is very beneficial. I just wonder how many people have gone ahead and done their own thing and not been entirely happy with their amps as a result.
  10. I’d like some respect for eating doner kebabs sober, it’s the kind of bravery only shown by the mighty!!
  11. I`m itching for the chance to use my two ABM PRO NEO 210s now I`m in a gigging band again. As soon as I do I`ll update on these pages.
  12. I`ve found that to get the best out of my Ashdown amps the Input Gain needs to be set so that the loudest part of my playing (ok, yes we all know that means all of it as I have no subtlety with my ham-fist-punk approach) puts the needle on the meter into the red. From there select Output Gain to match the volume of the other instruments. It`s actually quite amazing how much of a difference it makes, it`s almost like the amp "comes alive" in comparison to if the Input Gain is set a fair bit lower.
  13. Tort works, unleash your inner Steve Harris, Nick
  14. I remember that set up Tim, sounded great
  15. The RM414 is a nice sounding cab, and if doing regular pub sized gigs more than enough. If playing big stages & touring in vans etc I’d go for the ABMs, more hard wearing and a greater depth to the sound which helps on those big stages.
  16. Does seem a tad expensive, I’ve used them in the past and they’ve always been quite competitive.
  17. Forgive my lack of knowledge on this @Bill Fitzmaurice but does this mean that in general it’s easier to be objective about the sound of a cab on larger stages as there’s less for the sound to “bounce around on” or is the fact that these stages are usually elevated another factor getting in the way of making objective judgements?
  18. I’ve never heard of Fender doing this, but I know a Basschatter had one of these, can’t remember who it was tho, think maybe it was @Paul S?
  19. I should add, this wouldn’t be for me, love Precision necks but I do think it would be a real seller to many.
