  1. Same here, not too pricey but good leads and easy to source if a replacement needed.
  2. Agree. I watched a PMT “sound like Mick Mars of Motley Crue” vid. A lot of effects were used but each on their own was barely noticeable and difficult to hear how it had changed the sound. However when the end sound with them all on was compared to the initial no effects sound it was quite an ear opener as to how each minor alteration added in layers to the end result. Probably how AC uses the Sub Harmonic, adds something in but not so it would be identified.
  3. I always shield my Precision Scratchplates with copper shielding tape as a matter of course, only ever had one noisy Precision and doing this sorted it. But do agree with checking out the earth wire too.
  4. I don’t mind if the singer is talking about the politics contained in a specific song, the way Jake Burns of SLF does (tho he does ramble on a bit) but if they’re just talking politics between every song and denouncing certain parties all the time I find it a switch off. I’m not fussed if their political views either support or oppose mine, if it’s not relevant to the song(s) leave it at home. In my last band much of the content of our songs was political but it wasn’t anti one party, more opposition to things that take place and have taken place under successive governments of both sides of the coin.
  5. For a very versatile bass I’d definitely recommend these. Ultimately I’m just a Precision man, so the versatility was wasted on me hence moving it on, but if I were a depping or studio musician this would be the ideal bass imo.
  6. In an old band I was in we wrote a song in rehearsals. I came up with the arrangement for the solo. In discussions at a later point re songwriting I asked why I wasn’t credited, and told I was just doing what I was meant to and that wasn’t creative input. My response was OK, in that case tell me exactly what notes to play and when as I’ll no longer think for myself at all when it comes to playing. I left not long afterwards. In no way did I think we would ever make anything out of the band anyway, it was the principle, you have no value as you only play bass.
  7. Sounds a bit off to me, pics would help.
  8. In my last band we credited each of us equally, figuring that no matter who had the initial idea we all made it what it was once it was finished. We also figured that if we made millions a third of that would be nice, as would if we made nothing a third of feckall was no more disappointing than all of it.
  9. It wouldn’t bother me, my applying would depend only on if I liked the band/music. Sounds structured and focused imo.
  10. Agree, difficult to say the Crue are a good example for anything 🤣 But I like that U2 agreement, and from what I understand Coldplay do similar. Saves the arguing & resentment, after all a quarter of mega-millions is nice enough.
  11. Who knows how much of the initial songwriting he does? Look at Motley Crue, Nikki Sixx does similar to AC (but even less) yet is the chief songwriter.
  12. The Little Mark Tube has drive on it but to be honest it’s so little you probably wouldn’t notice it as drive. It adds a “shimmer” and “life” to the sound that once it’s switched off the sound seems flat & lifeless, but proper drive it isn’t. It is great tho.
  13. Yeah I’ve got a couple of their albums and think they’re a good band, the hate thing may well come from how popular How You Remind Me was, it was everywhere when it came out.
  14. @BigRedXi remember the Comsat Angels, great band, should have been much bigger. Also think I saw them on that U2 tour as well.
  15. Those five string basses, just new fangled fancy malarkey, never catch on
  16. I really should get The Joshua Tree. I saw U2 a few times when I was younger but not since about ‘82. Dunno why, I like them, tho Bonio can stick to singing and leave the preaching imo.
  17. I know full well that a Mexican Fender Precision would be more than enough for my needs. I prefer the US ones but in terms of what I need a Mex Precision is plenty suitable.
  18. Just shows, sometimes doing the simple stuff isn’t quite as simple as would initially have been thought.
  19. I found, having to learn much more complicated material than I’m used to for my current band, that both playing much softer than I usually do, and the age old “repeat the difficult passage on its own many times” really helped. Specifically re octaves, I use index finger for the low, little finger for the high, means much less movement over the neck.
  20. I suspect that setting up like that adds depth to the sound but without being really noticeable as an effect. Whatever anyone thinks of Adam Clayton or U2 they’re not likely to do anything that has a negative impact on the sound.
  21. Awesome setup and incredible price, a really bargain
  22. From what I’ve read the first time he used an Ashdown his words were “now that’s proper bass amplification”. Couldn’t have put it better myself.
  23. Passive Precisions, volume & tone on full. If I’m tinkering around at home playing to something requiring a softer tone I’ll back off to about 80%.
