  1. Definitely, I had my OTB through a Marshall VBC 412 and anymore than 10 o`clock on both volume & gain and the rest of the band simply couldn`t be heard in our rehearsal room. Not a case of just the bass being too loud, they literally couldn`t be heard at all, frightening little things the OTBs.
  2. I honestly can`t believe that someone could have one of those OTBs at full pelt, having had one it was amazingly loud, I`d expect walls to melt and floors to liquify if running one at full volume. How anyone could use one at that kind of volume is just beyond me.
  3. Yeah, those OTB amps are so loud ears will blow long before the speaker
  4. Cool pic Rog, where was the gig?
  5. I flew with Ryanair once. When the plane landed the rest of the passengers clapped. In my naïveté I thought that was what was meant to happen.
  6. I’m surprised they didn’t charge extra for the cast
  7. Some years back one of our very own Basschatters made me a splitter box which enabled me to connect two 4ohm cabs up to an amp that was 4ohms, could be worth looking into. I get where you’re coming from though, and two of the SVT212s would be over 120lbs to carry, so no longer a lightweight set up. I’ve used one with my ABM600 and when it was stood on a flight case it was fine, but that was in a 3-piece so nothing else going on over my side of the stage/getting in the way.
  8. Yep, mine too, for me def the best Precisions I’ve had. Yes, nabbed a 2014 black/maple, just got to exercise some patience (something I find very difficult) and wait a couple of weeks til I’m on leave to drive down and pick it up.
  9. Flying = hard case imo. You have no control over where the instrument will be, unless you buy a seat for it. As such work on the premise that it will be in the hold, at the bottom, with everything else on top of it, and that every time it’s moved it’s moved without any care or attention. Gigbag no longer such a good option.
  10. Thanks Dave, I’m really pleased with it
  11. Following @FinnDaves new pair of sunburst beauties, I received this today, a Fender 2016 US Standard. Shock horror, it’s not black as you can see but the classic Precision imo in sunburst/tort/rosewood. Plays and sounds fantastic, largely thanks to the Custom Shop 62 pickups. Thanks to Mark at Classic & Cool Guitars for a nice & easy transaction.
  12. The Ampeg SVT212 is meant be very near in sound to the 810 & 610 so may be worth checking out. Edit - and there’s one up for grabs on here at present.

Sounds about right Dave, I do that on all of mine.
  14. 3 gigs a year more than warrants a new bass, looks great

    Two nice ones there Dave
  16. I think you’re in for a difficult task, trying to find better than those, Chris.
  17. So an update to this, as my number 1 is a black/black/maple US Standard Precision from the 2013-16 Series it`s suddenly dawned on me that maybe having the same bass for gigging might be a wise move. So one has been purchased, just got to drive all the way to near Torquay to collect it. Dang, I suffer for my art!
  18. That’s a great way to put it Steve, something I found out by accident but which is so spot on.
  19. +1, I don’t think I can add anything to this thread other than echo the sentiments already expressed.
  20. I`ve found that whilst I`ll never be 100% happy, due to the room/stage etc, put a steel round-wound strung Precision connected to an amp that can drop low-mids in my hands and I`m going to get a sound that works for me. But that`s taken many years to establish, though as said it`s been great fun finding it out. Jazz basses, Stingrays, Compressors, HPFs, all were a good experience but I`ve just found out that they`re not really "me".
  21. They do have a lot of low end, but I got Ashdown to seal the ports on mine and it tightened up the sound nicely.
  22. I’d reckon so, my ABM410 was plenty enough for gigs so can’t see the 210 not being enough in a rehearsal room.
  23. Poor Alvin, a thoroughly decent chap, def doesn’t deserve this.
  24. I’m just trying to imagine the case or gigbag needed for that.
  25. Those ABM combos have a reassuringly good sound to them, congrats Dave.
