  1. Definitely. I’ve got an audition in a couple of weeks time so am learning the bands last album. Whether I get the position or not I’ll have learned from learning those songs, how another songwriter works their craft, different basslines and how another bassist might choose their notes (higher to complement choruses, lower on solos for example). Will all be of help to me, plus I like the songs anyway.
  2. A couple for me: Boulevard of Broken Dreams, by Hanoi Rocks And Killed by Death, by Motörhead
  3. Well they all have their own voicing, so with 2 loud guitars I’d look at which has the biggest surface area. You’d probably be looking at a 210 or 115 in budget, and to be honest for what you’re after I’d be all over this ABM combo on here:
  4. With 2 loud guitars I’d be looking for 300 watts minimum so I wasn’t having to push the amp all the time. An Ashdown MAG combo is available within budget, should easily do the job.
  5. Yes, I had a couple of 500s as backup amps and found the same.
  6. A journey through a storm across country on the cards then.
  7. From reading your responses I’d agree, think the MXR fits your needs nicely. Having just bought one myself they’re a really nice piece of kit.
  8. I’ve found that harmonics seem to sound better/happen easier when I’m using something with a valve in, be it amp or preamp pedal.
  9. I think if looking for any changes I’d look at a DI/preamp pedal that sounded as similar to the amp as possible.
  10. Have now reconsidered: After a set up over a few days to my preference and a new set of Elixir steel rounds I’ve now decided that my best purchase of the year is a Fender 2015 US Precision in black/white/rosewood. Worst purchase was a Hipshot BT7 bought for a Mex Precision and which didn’t fit (and they’re advertised as being made for Mex Fenders).
  11. Yep, to make life easy I used to use the RM for rehearsals and the ABM for gigs.
  12. Many many purchases, all good & none bad, don’t think I could rate a “best” to be honest.
  13. I’d be looking at a Barefaced cab for this, the power of the amp would concern me unless I had it hooked up to a cab capable of handling it. I really liked the sound of the Super Midget when I heard one, much “bigger” sound than would be expected from a small cab.
  14. Yep, I used one of these with a MAG115 ext cab as a provided rig and it was really good & powerful sounding .
  15. I used the BOSS WL20 for similar reasons as @Nail Soup
  16. Looks great, recently done similar myself on a Precision.
  17. Sold Price reduction to £950 US 5 String Precision (2013) in good condition, only slight flaw is the tuning peg on the G is scuffed at the end. I’ve had the frets have professionally levelled & polished. Comes with a Comfort Strap and the end-pins installed on the bass, and a generic Armourdillo hard case. Weight is 4.57kg or bang on 10lbs, feels less with that Comfort Strap though. No trades or posting but am willing to meet halfway (within reason).
  18. I found that on bigger stages the ABM600 just has a better presence/heft to the sound, but I am talking the type of stages where you can be more than 20ft away from your amp/speakers. And with the 9-band eq there’s more toneshaping too.
  19. Congrats, I thought the same of the Player Precision that I had, much nearer in quality to the US models than would be expected. I thought I’d need to change the pickups but after a rehearsal realised no need.
  20. And it was all I expected and more. It was great to be out at a gig again, saw a lot of people I knew there, and the sound of the band themselves, well it could well be the best sound I’ve ever heard at a gig.
