Many years ago a band I was in had a gig booked, we turned up to find it was a different landlord, one who didn’t want live music but was honouring the few bookings that the pub still had. As such he’d done no promotion, and word had gotten round that the pub no longer did bands. Halfway through our set he came up to us and offered the immortal line “If I give you £100 will you stop playing”.
Yep!
Up til then it was our biggest pay day.
The Classic Precision look. Great story re selection too, just goes to show that the hands really do trump the eyes (if common sense is applied of course) in choosing an instrument.
I’ve found that with active basses I don’t have to dig in as much to get the attack that I like. The downside is that I’m not that keen on the sound in comparison to passives so passive basses it is.
Sold
Very versatile pedal, bass, treble, low & hi mids with adjustable selectable frequencies, low & hi pass filters. In very good condition, comes in the Tech21 tin box with manual.
May be worth getting the onboard DI checked out. Usually a bass cab will add its own flavour so a DI from an amp to PA if anything should be clearer than what comes out of a bass rig. I’d say get in touch with Ashdown, seek their advice.
Yep that`s it, from experience of ruining screw-heads on many different things over the years, using the right one will stop this and enable you to use the amount of force needed to turn it no worries. It`s amazing how much difference it actually makes.
And I`ll keep my eyes open for the southern ones. I saw the Jeff Lynne at Wembley gig on TV a few weeks back and enjoyed it a lot, would be great to see a band doing those songs live. Had forgotten just how enjoyable that music is.
Whilst I love the sound & feel of big amps going (they don`t have to be massively loud tho, just to drums level) I have to admit that since wearing ear-plugs (ACS), which really reduce the volume of the whole band down, I can hear much more of what each instrument is doing and it does make rehearsing much more enjoyable. I`m yet to do a gig like this so can`t comment on that aspect.
If I could play equally well with both I think the deciding factor would have to be which was more prevalent in the music style I was doing, for authenticity.
Definitely. In my band we wear earplugs as the drummer is just so loud (my ACS plugs deal with this tho) but I can feel the air from the rehearsal rooms 810, it’s very satisfying.
Having had both Ashdown & Barefaced cabs I`d say that BF will more than likely go louder (make that a definite), but that that is irrespective to me given that I prefer the sound of the Ashdowns, which are plenty loud enough for my needs.
We had the Chief of Antwerp Police come on stage, hand on gun, hollering at us in Flemish. I’m not particularly fluent (as in I speak none) but I could tell he didn’t want to help on BVs.
