  1. Same here Chris, the Pino is simply a stunningly good bass, easily the best Precision I’ve played. I’ve also been fortunate enough to play a Master Built Strat and it was an amazing guitar, felt instantly like I’d owned it for 30 plus years. Maybe people get this type of finish so they’re not heartbroken at the first ding?
  2. Top of The Pops, radio, newspaper’s and Smash Hits mainly, plus the inevitable loaning & swapping that groups of teenagers used to do.
  3. 7 band eq for the 400 as opposed to 9 band for the 600.
  4. Withdrawn from sale One Mexican 2014 Fender Precision in very good condition. No dings or knocks, back of neck in pretty much new condition. I’ve had a Graphtec nut installed and added a Hipshot 3-way string retainer rather than the original string tree. No postage but am willing to meet up halfway within reason.

    P-bass

Apparently based on the pickup in Bobby Vegas’ 1960 Precision.
  6. I think it may be time to identify as someone who was born on a different day
  7. The Markbass CMD121 is a good little combo that punches much above its size would suggest. I used one in a band that had drums, keys, 2 x bass, 3 x guitars and it held its own fine. For the brief I’d say it fits well.

Agree, these are very near in sound to the Fender Custom Shop 62s, at about a third of the price.
  9. They are great basses but I think this is more than a little unrealistic
  10. Sold One Hipshot BT8 Extender Tuner, fits 2008 onwards Fenders (and matches the ones on the 2008 - 12 Series). £60 including delivery in the UK
  11. I use a Wenger rucksack, not cheap but it’s practical, offers good protection and many other compartments for the leads etc.
  12. I think you`re spot on there Chris
  13. Yeah, I wanted to try the flats as a lot of the stuff I`m playing was apparently recorded with them, but although they`ve got a nice enough presence we just all prefer the rounds. Could be that I`m just so much more used to rounds that I eq them better, or that we`re all just more used to them so the different sound didn`t fit so well, but in reality I think it`s as you say, not really the right strings for that type of music.

    Cab Riser

Then they smash them all to bits
  15. I played my new Precision last night at rehearsal, strung with Rotosound flats. Tried a few different eq options but both myself and the band all came to the conclusion that we preferred the bass with rounds, so s/s Elixirs it will be.
  16. Good solution there
  17. In all the hundreds of gigs I’ve done I’ve only ever needed a backup once. When I’d left it at home. Lots of use there, it was not.
  18. But I’ll bet it sounds great, Michael
  19. I saw a band use one, admittedly the whole band were going through FOH but before that in the sound check it easily kept up with unamplified drums at regular pub covers type volume.
  20. I have to admit I was one of those people. I’d not really payed much attention to music in the early 90s, heard the MF version first then thought Oasis (who I had no idea who they were) had done a pretty good modern version of it. But I still think Mike Flowers version is the best. And I really like Oasis.
  21. Would have been my answer too, Joey
  22. Very good point Chris, I’m not an overly techie person but I think that bass amps nowadays are voiced maybe a bit too low. I really noticed a difference when I recently switched from 40hz to 80hz on my Sansamp, much clearer and the bass seemed more “there” but less flub/boom. Maybe the older amps/speakers were voiced better, or perhaps the speakers couldn’t handle the real lows like they can nowadays?
  23. The other thing that I can think of, and it’s how I look at the bass in my classic rock band that has keys, is that I don’t want to cut through, I want to support the drums & the groove and let the lead guitar & keys handle the upper frequencies without me getting in the way. That thing where you don’t notice the bass unless it stops, when suddenly the depth to the music just vanished.
  24. Must admit I don’t know why, gigging in an originals band is much easier, turn up with a bass & bag of leads/tuner, plug in, play 30/40mins, done. As oppose to turn up at 7 with a covers band, set up a whole PA & lights along with full backline, then play at least two 45min sets, then have to break down all of said earlier gear. Sure in my old originals band I found that too exhausting but that’s cos it was gigs pretty much every weekend, sometimes both Fri & Sat, all over the country and in Europe, but if keeping to a fairly local patch originals I find a lot easier. Full respect to the covers bands for the amount of work that’s needed.
