  1. There’s one on the bay at present.
  2. After joining Basschat in general by threads/recommendations on here, however I happened on my love for Ashdown gear by accident. For a while a lot of the shared/provided gear was Ashdown and I really liked it, so decided that had to be the way to go. From there I’ve had a heavy ABM set up, but that got too much for me, luckily they brought out a NEO ABM range so went that way. All of the theory and specs in the world can’t make your ears decide which they prefer, on paper my rig prior to my Ashdown gear should have been much better (and maybe in technical terms it was), but my ears liked the Ashdown more.
  3. Well that was the reason I left, lol. Pretty much every weekend we were up & down motorways/staying over in hotels/getting on ferries or planes and it just got too much for me, I was constantly exhausted as was doing it with holding down a full time job. It just came that bit too late for me but I had 6 years of the best fun in music I’ve ever had.
  4. Well I was 54 when I left my last band Paul, we were (and they still are) an originals street punk/Oi band. We played all over the UK & Europe, there’s a great scene out there with plenty of bassists using similar tones to those you describe and plenty of people frequenting the gigs. Give it a try while you can, I had the best time of my musical journey in that band, we didn’t start it til I was 47.
  5. I dunno, in my last band my tone was the brightest/twangiest/most driven tone I’ve ever had, though my preferred tones are the traditional deep warm Precision/Ampeg. I just try to choose the right tone for the band, though do agree that I’ve probably got more “traditional” in my tone preference as I’ve got older.
  6. Well just played it for about an hour, and again am just blown away by this guitar. Did a bit of looking up and they come stock with Gibson Brite Wires, which have been my string of choice for electric guitars for years so s good there.
  7. I have had many different mix-ups if amps & cabs, even to the point of having cabs of different makes in the same stack. All sounded great, but my Ashdown ABM set up is the best for me (though my Marshall DBS7400 & VBC412 was mighty fine too).
  8. Sold Hipshot Drop D Extender in good condition, easy fit to 2008 onwards Fenders. It will fit 2012 onwards ones as well but it won’t match the ones already on the bass. Price includes delivery in the Uk.
  9. Sold pending the usual Deluxe Precision, Precision & Jazz pickups, active/passive selection - active has bass/mids/treble, passive the treble control becomes a tone control. Very versatile bass which is in very good condition, comes with Fender ABS hard case. Link showing full specs: https://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-american-deluxe-precision-bass-new-2010-model-black-maple/31421 No trades or postage, am willing to meet up halfway (within reason).
  10. Yep, Ashdown ABM head & ABM cabs (plus an Ashdown RM500 as a backup).
  11. Def, and with a loom it’s so quick and easy to upgrade the pots/cap/jack whilst swapping out pickups and makes such a difference, gives a better control of the sound not to mention better reliability due to far better quality parts.
  12. I had two mics, a Shure SM58 and a Behringer XM8500. I sold the SM58 as the XM for about 20% of the price was about 90% as good. Imo def not cheap and nasty, to quote @David B they’re cheap and good.
  13. Def, I was amazed at how similar they are to the CS62s
  14. In my last band I needed that fresh new steel rounds twang, Warwick Red Labels lasted pretty well so that was every 2 months or so. Now I use Elixirs and can get between 8 months to a year before the clarity on the E goes.
  15. My faves are the Fender Custom Shop 62s, though Lindy Fralin makes some great P-bass pickups, which at some point I’m sure I’m going to try, there was a thread on here recently about them.
  16. I really enjoy playing to pretty much all of my last bands tracks, don’t like listening to them.
  17. Hmmm, cheaper goods from Europe than the UK post B-word, who’d of thunk it?
  18. I think it’s the imperfections that help to make the songs be as good as they are, as I’m sure there are similar in the guitars & drums. Sometimes being too perfect sterilises a song imo.
  19. Yep sounds fairly unremarkable in isolation, even the sound not being that great imo.
  20. In the main I prefer to get my sound from my amp with no pedals, however in my last band I acknowledged that I’d be using so many shared/provided rigs that might be difficult. So I got my sound from a preamp pedal (Tech21 Para Driver) and then no matter what amplification I was using the audience would always get the right sound as all our gigs went through FOH PA. A couple of times the amps provided had broken so it was just my bass/Para Driver, with monitoring providing on stage sound. If good monitoring could be guaranteed I’d be happy enough to gig like that all the time.
  21. Never really liked The Smiths but do like a fair bit of Morrisseys solo material.
