  1. There was a thread on here a while back, the purchaser was rather phrased if I recall correctly
  2. Used to happen quite a lot on the punk scene. A major band would be playing in a city/big town and then a promoter would put a punk event on on the same night at a smaller venue, pretty much guaranteeing hardly anyone in the audience as they’re all down the road watching the named band.
  3. I found that no matter where I stood (except directly behind of course) the Schroeder cabs I had sounded the same.
  4. The Cure to me are very similar to the Foo Fighters in that I can happily listen to a song of theirs but not a whole album. Whereas live, be it that I’m at the gig is watching it in tv, both bands hold my interest for the whole set.
  5. Easy Check fuse, if blown replace, if not buy my Ashdown After Eight Simples, as the meerkats would say
  6. Bit heavy for me but the mix is really great, even on my iPhone I can hear every instrument clearly
  7. A trip up the A10 takes you to our very own Gary Mac in Hoddesden
  8. Me too, for the same reasons, I find the sound “honky & nasally”. In general in the past I’ve not necessarily reduced the mids as added bass & treble. From there if still honky then look at reducing around the 400 - 800Hz area. But the Shape function on the Ashdown amps seems to just get it right, only a few tweaks for the room needed with that selected.
  9. I can imagine a Spinal Tap type interview re this
  10. Too difficult to resist, although out of stock they were £207 at GAK. Am in no rush so that`ll do nicely.
  11. I felt really guilty for liking Karma Chameleon when it came out, as it wasn’t punk. The deftness of youth methinks.
  12. I know what you mean, after being in the band for about a year I used the excuse of having my ties taken by adoring fans to ditch them full time. Open neck black shirts, black jeans & boots, instant Clash circa 1979 instead of “wacky” US high school kids.
  13. When we did the punk covers we wore black shirts, jeans & DMs with stripy ties, prob a bit like Green Day in their American Idiot phase. I used to get girls asking for my ties all the time, much to the annoyance of the rest of the guys. I think they read too much into it, said girls just probably thought I was the safest looking one in the band.
  14. Yep it’s a funny old world now we all get on and go to the same gigs, given the rivalries back then, I suppose age both gives and takes away.
  15. Def, I “grew up” on these in rehearsal rooms in the late 80s, great amps and plenty of power
  16. Same for the 115, very tempted…..
  17. Same here, it seemed to support the track better
  18. Am sure you’ll like the Studio 8 @Silverberry, Ashdown are a great make and have some of the best customer service around, plus they’re on here and always willing to offer advice/guidance, just a great company imo.
  19. Well the cabs are nice & light. I had a similar set up and did bass/1 cab on one trip from the car, rucksack containing amp & leads/2nd cab on the next. If only using one cab it could be done in one trip.
  20. Definitely, a real bargain for a quality bit of gear.
  21. For home use 15 watts will be enough. I’ve had a good few of the 15 watt 1x8 combos, Fender, Ampeg, Marshall and Ashdown, none of them could be used at full volume unless being extremely inconsiderate to my neighbours. My Ashdown After Eight combo also handled the low B on my 5-string ok - I should add that the Ashdown was the only one I used with a 5-string.
  22. I’d go for the 500 head and 2 cabs, though all options mentioned will be plenty enough for regular gigging.
  23. Mohicans seemed to be the 2nd wave of punk in the early 80s, the followers of the more hardcore sounds such as GBH & The Exploited. Like anything things move on. Similarly the Oi movement which had punk bands with fans looking more like skinheads, but a rougher image than the crombies and sta-press that were previously associated with skinheads.
  24. That’s a good point, in a band I was in years ago it would take at least 2 months of weekly rehearsals for a new (cover) song to bear any semblance to the original. At the time I didn’t know better but the band I joined afterwards it would take us a few goes through to get a song pretty much spot on.
