  1. Now Sold So, I’ve been on a quest to build the right pedalboard for my needs (great fun btw) finally found it, so am having a clear out as below, all items fully working: MXR M81 Good condition, boxed £105 delivered in UK
  2. I’ve just joined a new band, 1st gig last night. I stick with the drummer and have had a good few comments about how I hold the band together. I’ve tinkered with adding a few runs in, but for me it’s understanding the space where to do it. I don’t want to get in the way of the singer, who has a great voice, no point in doing it where the lead guitar is playing a riff/melody associated with the song, and not when the drummer does a roll. There is still the space fit me to add stuff and I do, but I think it is self confidence/awareness to play where I can, not what I can.
  3. First gig with my new band, The Spacewasters last night. At a charity fund raiser for cancer in The Fiddlers Elbow in Camden. Seeing as our drummer has had two brain tumours, and had a kidney removed, and still had cancer of the renal gland it was close to the bands heart. Got there 5ish as had to work, fortunately there was a backstage room to store the gear whilst we waited til our slot at 6:30. Went on, provided amp stack of Genz Benz Streamliner with matching 410/115, so all I had to use was trusty Precision & Sansamp. Went really well, didn’t feel nervous at all, was just so happy to be back gigging. Lots of compliments afterwards about how my playing held the band together which was nice. I had a blast, I’m back!
  4. I could only get 4 out of those Eurythmics Kate Bush Duran Duran New York Dolls Edit - Reading further posts I obviously missed seeing Dolly Parton on there, so would add her in too.
  5. This might seem like a strange solution to hearing things, but what about a good set of ACS ear plugs? Mind bring the volume of the whole (very loud) band down to a really comfortable level where I can hear every note from every instrument.
  6. Agree, get a great feeling/playing instrument keep it. I’d be tempted to see if the retailer would offer anything back tho, and if they did put it towards a KiOgon loom to properly sort the issue.
  7. I’m not a particular fan of them, but about 15/20 years ago the drummer of a band I was in really loved them, so got to hear By The Way a lot over that period. Quite liked it, really should get myself a copy. I’ve got BSSM & Californication, both ok but prefer By The Way.
  8. I found that using neck pickup on full and bringing in the bridge pickup to about a quarter gave me a Precisiony type tone, but focused a little lower maybe, not so many mids. I also changed the eq on my amps, being a Precision player I generally scoop mids and boost highs, with the Jazz I didn’t really need to do this.
  9. Agree, in my current band we have a song where the verses are in E and I play a bit of a walking type line but for the guitar solo I drop to a solid E so that the solo stands out more. We tried it at rehearsal last week and all agreed that it worked better, so maybe the players who seemed to be held back were, or maybe they were promoting the other strengths within the band by keeping it simple & steady.
  10. Is that because they have a bit of a "scoopy" sound to them maybe? I found them to sound pretty decent on my Precisions, and felt very comfortable to play too, only downside was they lost a lot of zing very quickly and really didn`t like the sound after that.
  11. In my classic rock band - which doesn`t gig btw, no singer - we try to play as exact to the originals as possible, and purposely pick difficult songs. The theory is we know we`re not going to gig, so we choose harder to play material in an effort to hopefully better ourselves musically. After all as much fun as it would be to belt out the easy songs after a while that would be a tad tedious, this method holds the interest, especially when with each time we go through the songs we can hear the improvement. I`ve really progressed on bass in the 2 years I`ve been with this band, I can now play stuff that 3 or 4 years ago I would have thought was way beyond me.
  12. Thanks, I`ll sort one of those as have loved the vids you`ve put up, great sounding band
  13. I`ve been on a quest to get the right preamp/DI pedal recently, and have found that I can coax very similar tones to my Ashdown from the Aguilar Tonehammer. So the Tonehammer amps might be worth a look.
  14. If wanting a Fender type instrument I`d hold out for a Mex Fender if possible. The Squiers are good, CVs & VMs especially so, but the actual Fenders are easier to do mods on such as scratchplates (for some reason Squier ones are different) and tuners. If of course you`re not the modding type then the Squiers are def worth getting.
  15. From an old dinosaur type, is it available on CD?
  16. I’ll bet that sounds great, but I wouldn’t want to move it about
  17. From a mid-scoop kinda guy, I`ve plenty of mids on my Precisions so scoop them to get out of the way of the humbucking guitars - generally choose around 400/500hz for this. But I have to make sure to not have too much going on in the lows as agree, it then just turns to mush.
  18. Yeah of course, always forget the preacher is compression, for some reason my brain automatically registers it as fuzz.
  19. With what else you`ve got there not sure if compression worth a try. Might be a bit of a strange suggestion, but what`s the one pedal you can`t do without/is integral to your sound? Maybe double up on it. I`ve seen other people adopt this approach when a pedal forms literally the backbone of their whole sound.
  20. Def got an Indie sort of vibe going on
  21. Back in 91 the band I was in did a UK tour, as a support band. First gig was in Bradford. All pile in the van which had been rented & modded for the tour, driver sets off with the band in fine mood. Pull up, driver says everyone out as he’s having trouble finding the venue, asks one of us to go into a petrol station to ask for directions. Before that happened I asked “Isn’t the gig in Bradford” to which the answer was yes. My next question, which wasn’t so well received was “ well why are we in Barnsley”. Aaaaaarrgh!
  22. Classic colour scheme, congrats
  23. Wow, great band and great they’re playing smaller venues when they can easily fill bigger ones.
  24. Having read through this I think the way the venue are behaving is potentially going to ruin the brides big day. It seems they don’t care one iota about her, the customer, who should be having the best day of her life.
  25. Henry’s currently doing XSLF, with Jim Reilly (drummer on Nobody’s Heroes album) and Avi on bass. Current SLF drummer is Steve Grantley, been with them for over 20 years now, Ian McCallum completing the line up on rhythm guitar.
