My first question would be is through a gigging rig or a practice amp? I find that on my practice amp using my Hipshot Extender down to low D it doesn’t have that much clarity so can only assume what a low B would be like through it.

Definitely Chris, from what I’ve read how The Beatles were in their Hamburg days wasn’t that far removed from punk, which is my main area of music.

Currently watching the story of Elton Johns Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, very interesting and a fantastic album.

Not sure about undeserved but on overdrive pedals I’d like to gear them with a touch of break up rather than full on. Additionally I’d like to see demos of pedals with Jazz or Precision type basses rather than coffee table type basses. Nothing against those basses, it’s just with a Jazz or Precision I can get an idea of how the pedal would sound for me, whereas demoed with a bass that I - and many I’d guess - have no experience of it’s difficult to gain an understanding of how the pedal would work for me.

Agree, I Saw Her Standing There is a good case to that. Once you get the hang of it it’s easy enough, but Macca sang lead vocals on that, not quite so easy doing both. I just watched a live clip of them doing it in 1963 and he doesn’t even look at the fretboard whilst playing.

Sounds more like rhythm guitar, great use of the instrument in a non traditional way

I’m Ashdown biased, pretty much indestructible products (something where Ampeg slips behind a bit) and sound great as well, plus based in UK with excellent customer service so any problems easy to get sorted.

I’d recommend either a Squier Jazz or Precision, and then do a search for a local luthier/guitar shop to set it up properly. Fender type basses are still pretty much industry standard so learning on one gives a good foundation for later on.

Whereabouts did you get it from @Stofferson, have been looking at these for a while as PJ might be the way forwards.

I think he’s a great bassist, when you think about what the bass did up until The Beatles, his melodic playing coupled with the fact that he was often singing while playing those melodic lines, well that to me is good playing.
