  1. I recall being horrified with myself for liking Karma Chameleon by Culture Club as it wasn’t punk, I actually felt guilty about this, which looking back is just daft.
  2. I’ve been rather tempted by those too.
  3. That’s a very good point Dan, I’ve stacks of gear I need to move on, not for the money, I’ve just established what gear I’m keeping moving forwards, but given travel restrictions along with lack of money out there I’m not putting any instruments up for a while yet.
  4. Out of that list I only like one song, Unchained Melody, and even then I far prefer a live tv version that you can find in YouTube to the studio version.
  5. I like it when it adds to a song, such as Bowie’s Ashes to Ashes, or a couple of the Duran songs, but don’t like it when it’s just an onslaught of notes with no groove or discernible riff.
  6. That’s a very well worked out eq, prob the most useful points in sculpting a good bass tone easily & quickly.
  7. Just bought a Hipshot BT12 and borrowed a Squier P/J bass from Mick. Good chat as always, including the possibility of another Herts Bass Bash when the world gets back to normal.
  8. I know I like Fenders & Musicman spacing, but no idea what it is. I’ve recently found a liking for Jazz necks after years of Precisions, and aside from in a couple of the more complicated songs where my fingers can trip over each other I find them easier to play. But what the numbers are, no idea!
  9. Basschat For Sale, Gumtree or contact Bass Direct, Classic And Cool Guitars, The Bass Gallery to see if they’ll sell for you. Trade ins are dreadful in general for the value you get (though Coda Music in Stevenage used to be very good).
  10. They’re easy enough, I do one in one hand and a bass or amp in the other from my car to my front door when it’s parked 50 - 100 yards away. For reference I’m 55 and have a bad shoulder otherwise I’d do the two at the same time. I’m not in a gigging band (even putting COVID aside) so haven’t sourced any covers yet, but Roqsolid will sort these, they have a template on their site for new cabs, just measure it all up, they send out the cover then add the spec to their list, great company.
  11. Very good points there. For some reason I just can’t not play US Fenders, yet my Squier VM77 Jazz is easily good enough to gig with. Are my US Fenders better, well yes, but I wouldn’t say they’re 4 times better.
  12. I’d also put the US Professionals forward, they’re the only Jazz basses I’ve really clicked with (tho did change pickups to the Custom Shop 62s as found in the 2012-16 range).
  13. For live work I use a Dunlop D38-09BK Nylon Guitar Strap as they look cool (if they’re good enough for Duff McKagan they’re good enough for me). For rehearsals I use a Mono M80 Betty Strap as it provides good support for 3+ hours with a bass.
  14. Good call, Tech21 gear is great, having an amp range based on their pedals, similar to the VT500 would be an excellent move.
  15. I have to say that if I end up in a covers band doing two hour-long sets a night I’ll probably end up with one of these. No need at present but it’s nice to know they’re around.
  16. The Behringer is a good place to start as it is very good value for money, and of very good quality sound wise. It does have a baked in colour to the sound though, as it emulates the more expensive Sansamp.
  17. From past experience with my two Ashdown RM210s which have the diagonal configuration I’d say it makes it easier to hear yourself as the stack is taller. I did have the regular RM410 at the time so the comparison was between same brand & range. Didn’t make much difference on bigger stages but on the smaller ones where you’re just in front of your gear it did help.
  18. I’d echo the sentiments from all so far. Great place to research gear and get good balanced opinions from people regarding it. I also like that even if you have a difference of opinion with someone in Off Topic those differences don’t seem to be held over, exactly as it should be. Who said that the bassists were the crazy ones eh? Oh, yes, erm, no-one.....
  19. Yes, I’m very pleased with mine, both the weight and diagonal cone layout being very favourable factors which influenced my purchase. Obviously not had a chance to use them at volume yet but when I plugged them in for a test at home it induced a rather silly grin, always a sign that I’ve made the right choice.
  20. I remember playing a lot of those venues in the late 80s.
  21. No, it really was that unmemorable, as I’m sure 91 - 93 will be too. Apart from REMs Out of Time I don’t think I purchased any current music from the early 90s, I even gave up playing in 91 for about 4 or 5 years, that period, until Brit Pop just seemed so dull - even grunge didn’t inspire anything from me.
  22. I loved them too, great band, music was much more fun in that era.
  23. It could be dodgy strings, I had exactly the same happen with two sets of Warwicks, one after the other. Luckily the third set was ok.
  24. Will def watch the one about Boomtown Rats, haven’t seen it before.
