  1. The bass I’d never sell due to sentimental reasons is due to the history & memories I have from it. I’m sure if someone bought me an expensive bass as a milestone present it would also be a non seller, so I’d go for the instrument I really wanted rather than a generic “classic” so in your case get that Status CW.
  2. I really wish I could get to that point. Just as I’m nearing it I get the impulse to buy something new and often find that I don’t like it as much as what I already have.
  3. In an old band I was in the other bassist had a 150w 1x15 TE combo that I’m sure was louder than my Markbass 500w 2x12 set up.
  4. Indeed, even The Sex Pistols in the Matlock years had fluid melodic bass lines.
  5. Think it was a 60s though whichever it had “had a life” to say the least.
  6. Well I’d class them as punk as for me it was more about attitude and energy than a specific formula at start. Later on it did become very set, but look at the early punk bands, Pistols, Clash, Damned, Buzzcocks, Stranglers, X Ray Spex, they’re all very different in sound.
  7. I was fortunate enough a few years back to play the Babylon’s Burning bass. We were in the dressing room and I was drooling over it so Segs said I could have a go on it, very decent chap, and very very decent bass.
  8. We put up videos on YouTube and had a fair few people say they got into the band purely via those, as the vids got linked into those predictive “if you liked” sort of track listings. As such they then came to the gigs and in a good few cases became quite dedicated and well-spending fans. We didn’t get any more gigs to my knowledge as we got asked to do plenty - more than we could actually do - and I can’t honestly say whether the gigs got better paid or not but we certainly got better placings at gigs once the fan base got bigger. I do find it galling to have to give away music but that’s how the business works at present, if we all want to take part then playing the game along the same lines has to make sense. After all, how many people win at pontoon with only one card when every other player has two or more?
  9. Babylon’s Burning by The Ruts is pretty decent, and worth checking out Booze & Glory - mainly the Chapter IV album - their bassist at the time, Bubbles, was a very busy bassist.
  10. Is the aim to change the sound when the overdrive is on or to keep the core sound. Also do you want a real full on drive or a lesser drive to add in dynamics. If same sound & lesser drive then the TC Spark is worth checking out.
  11. I remember reading in Glen Matlocks book that he and a mate went to see Teenage Rebellion thinking what a great name and how this must be a band worth seeing. The band were made up of 40+ year olds. When they asked about the name the reply was that they were rebelling against teenagers.
  12. I’m glad they’re doing something about Denmark St, especially re The 12 Bar.
  13. Re the Jazz/BB, I felt that overall the sound was very similar, but that on the higher notes the Jazz was a bit treblier.
  14. Given how loud and full sounding the RM500 is I can’t see the 300 not being similarly great & excellent.
  15. There is a major gap between the top and the rest now, and I don’t think people really appreciate it. It is strange, what other industries give away products so freely.
  16. I’ve three copies of Never Mind The Bollocks by The Sex Pistols, my original vinyl version and 2 CDs, one of which is the remastered version which I bought for the car. Similarly I have 2 CD versions of Appetite for Destruction by Guns N Roses for the same reason, again remastered version for the car.
  17. The Players are very good basses, congrats.
  18. For overdrive pedals I’d like to hear the just break up stage rather than the full on demos. Sure the full on stuff can be fun but unusable in many situations unlike the just hitting break up stage.
  19. Scratch the itch and get the Precision. Pretty much all of my fave bassists played Precisions but for some reason I tried to get that sound from loads of other basses (unsuccessfully) rather than just buy a trusty Fender Precision. But the day I did, well it all finally clicked & made sense.
  20. Just watching The Jam, Bruce Foxton really doesn’t get the credit he deserves, his playing is both very melodic and busy. Couple this with that he sings on most of the songs as well as I think it’s a shame that he’s often overlooked with Paul Weller occupying the genius position.
  21. I think I’ve come to the conclusion that switching allegiance from Precisions to Jazzes is really all I should do at present, and keep everything else as it was.
