Reminds me of how a well known saying came into meaning: Ships from Newcastle would bring their cargo into London’s docks, then rather return empty they would take a load of urine - which was used as dye for clothing - back with them. On said return journey they would often pass other ships whose crews they knew, who would enquire what cargo they were carrying. They would often say “ we’ve got a great load, really lucrative” to which the response was: “You’re taking the p155”.

I must admit I’ve thought about doing that, ABM600 into the lower one of my 210s for clean lows then the RM500 into the upper one for highs with a bit of drive. As I’ll only likely be using my own rig from now on I can experiment a bit.

But how rich are you now Chris, after all those lottery wins 🤣

I’d reply: Thanks for your interest, please copy the link, paste it into an e-Mail and send it your Dad with my blessings

I was looking at replacement Jazz pickups yesterday and a set that cost £130 plus here are up for £79 at Thomson. I don’t know how the charges are worked but even factoring them in that still looks a deal.

Yes, that happened to band I know, they drove through - not playing in btw - Switzerland, got stopped and had to stump up the applicable costs.

Mesa Boogie sold, Ashdown, Trace Elliott rumours?
Lozz196 replied to Chienmortbb's topic in Amps and Cabs
I’d also be very surprised if Mark Gooday sold Ashdown, considering how he’s built up the company and their worthy reputation. -
I remember the late 80s/early 90s when the Conservatives were in government. If they did something wrong and got caught it was hands up & resign. That seems to have gone by the wayside nowadays.

I don’t know about budget so to speak, but my fave US Precision, which cost me less than all of my other basses is the one that I’ll keep no matter what. Only downside is it has such sentimental value I won’t take it out of the house.

I wonder if that`s due to now many of them being career politicians, rather than people who went into politics for grass-roots genuine reasons, as you`re right, but I`d also include the levels of competence amongst the opposition parties as well, there`s not many politicians nowadays that inspire confidence.

Looking to snap-up Ashdown ABM-300-EVO IV for a crunchy sound
Lozz196 replied to PeteJ's topic in Amps and Cabs
I have the 600 watt version and for me with the valve drive on full you get some nice warmth and extra harmonics but no real overdrive as such, just a small amount of breakup. It is however insanely powerful so the fact that I can’t push it fully may be a factor there, and being lower powered the 300 may achieve exactly what you’re after - or indeed the breakup that I get may be the crunch you want. But that aside, they are a quality amp, I’d fully recommend the ABM EVO IV amps all day long, incredibly versatile and a real depth/weight to the sound. -
I dunno about the tonnes of fish but I reckon the bass solo threat will have him folding in seconds.

I do similar, bought some ribbed matting from either the bay or the zon and glued it to the of one of my cabs, including spray adhesive cost less than £15 to get the job done and I had enough to do about 5 or 6 cabs.

One thing which I don’t know if anyone has considered, UK bands, certainly on some scenes pack in crowds in some EU countries where bands from that country might not. As such if those countries care about live music they might assist in this. After all it increases revenue for venues/businesses, gives their own bands an opportunity to play to the larger crowds generated and keeps live music going in their countries. Most of the venues we played in Germany had posters all over the place of past/future gigs and probably 80/85% of the headliners were UK acts. I can’t see Germany not wanting that to continue.

Fender Boxer Range re-released 2021 - The Jazz Bass Special !
Lozz196 replied to Dood's topic in Bass Guitars
If they were to make these in black I’d be all over them, but those two colours, well nah. -
Yes, that’s what the politicians would have been able to do, but my question is more, in that case once the politicians had approved something was the petition to parliament option still available if people disagreed with it
-
Either the matching Ampeg or the standalone Ashdown 410 would be my thoughts.
-
Genuine question here (as I don’t know the answer): As I understand it at present Brexit has brought in regulations that mean Brit musicians/performers can’t tour with freedom of movement in the EU and EU nationals can’t do similar in the UK. As such there’s a petition and once it reaches a certain number of signatures it has to be heard in parliament. My question is, if we were still in the EU and a law/regulation was brought in by the EU that similarly found disfavour in the UK, would the practice of petition/parliament still have been open to us?

Agree, very good point, it’s something that affects some on here, rehashing the previous locked thread is unlikely to help.
-
That is a good point Paul, in terms of cost a couple struck me as very good at the price such as Korean Squiers and the Fender Player range. If we move away from Fender the Vintage Tony Butler Precision is a cracking instrument.

There’s what looks to be a nice one at Bassdirect at the moment. The MIJs do seem to have a consistency and the necks are very comfortable/playable.
-
I think the S1 was up to 2006. The high mass bridges came in in 2008 and have been there ever since so a small gap between the two.
-
I’d recommend getting a used US one. Depending on preference for neck size: 2008-12 - not too chunky (quite modern sounding pickups) 2013-16 - chunky (and has Custom Shop 62 pickups) 2017 onwards - these are based on the 1963 which is apparently the holy grail of P-Bass necks, and they are really nice, not too chunky (pickups quite modern sounding)
